Silencer- you should get gears and play with us sometime soon.
On topic: I like the idea of removing the level cap, except I'd want to start a new character to do it with because my main was maxed out half way through the main quest line (exploring!).

Yeah I've just got done repairing the dish for the GNR guy and I'm already a level 17...plus I'd like to change around my perks a lot.
EDIT: and yes Silencer, you should do exactly that.

So last night I was walking downtown for some pizza at like 1am with some friends of mine,
and someone said, "I'm so hungry I could eat a whole pizza."
I said, "I bet I could eat 100 pizzas," and no one understood me. I was sad.

I should....well, I'm probably renting Left 4 Dead tomorrow, but I've got a free rental voucher and spare cash so I suppose that I could get both...

Oh gods!
This reminds me of that thing people had for what's-his-name in Morrowind. Someone (probably Apt, actually) posted a pic of the 4chan thread where everyone posted thier stories of pretending to be him. Fargoth. Ah, my memory has returned!
I can see this becoming something similar.

I love that, thanks Apt.
It would be so awesome if you could actually do that. I would be one of the Lyon's Pride from the Brotherhood.

This game looks great - I'm getting it imminently.
Any tips for the start of the game; or should I just get it, play it, then come back here later?

follow the main story a bit before you go exploring too much
i ended up missing a few quests by going to places that i was meant to reach later.

Thanks for that. I did something like that in Oblivion - cleared out dungeons early on, then got them as targets in later quests.
Does the enemy difficulty level adapt as you do? So if you go back to an earlier area when you've levelled up a bit, are all the enemies
harder than they would have been if you'd dealt with them at the start? Or do they stay weak?

enemies stay weak, but instead of like some grunt raiders you could face a bunch of deathclaws instead.

Not quite. There is a limited level scaling for each creature. E.g., an enemy that can beat you at level one, can probably still beat you at level 4, say, but not at level 10.
And I haven't noticed many enemies changing to others as I progress. A few, but not all, like DiBs seemed to suggest. (I.e. you can still find bloatflies on level 20).

Got started a few days back - this game is awesome. Love VATS.
I've done a few missions, got a few nice weapons too.
I found the Family ok - but they wouldn't let me near the kid, and the dialogue options were... limited.
So I killed Vance; which released the kid and got me good karma, but I then had to kill the rest of the Family, as they were pissed at me.
Outcome - I got the Shishkebab, the Vampires Edge sword and a few other bits; just wondered what would have happened if I'd left them alive/joined
them etc. Anyone else do something different?
Worth it for the shishkebab - it seems to take down most things at close range; the swords also good for lopping heads off.
I have a high repair skill early on, which is really useful, but I also chose beam weapons - the lasers so far are a bit crap compared
to my other stuff though. Do they get better?
Also, I need a vendor that doesn't run out of caps so I can sell more stuff. Where's the best outside of megaton? I'm currently on my way to the Museum
to fix the dish etc, but I have too much to carry, and I keep having to leave valuable stuff behind.

i let the family live and instead worked a deal so they protectthe town rather than attack it for blood packs. just trade things instead of taking caps is best bet early on. or leave stuff in a container you know location of that isnt classed as stealing. loads of empty houses in minefield etc, or after dealing with the bomb in megaton you either have a place in megaton or tenpenny tower.

I don't think I tried hard enough to persuade them. Vance was pretty annoying, and I've got his coat now, anyway.
With the caps, I meant that I trade with people, but since they only have a limited amount of caps, after I've sold a few reconditioned
assault rifles they run out pretty quick - leaving me with extra armour/miniguns etc, that are all worth a lot, but a can't shift.
Mind you, I've not found ten-penny tower yet.
What a great game!

I love this game.
There is quite a big change - the strength of enemy types doesn't change much, but the mix of enemies does. Get to level 20 and return to the earliest areas, and you can find deathclaws walking about. Maybe I've got my character badly kitted out, but I'm a level 20 with some of the best weapons, and I still struggle to kill Giant Radscorpions quickly and regularly get whipped by Deathclaws if playing without backup. Sometimes I'll nuke them rather than having to waste tons of Blackhawk ammo on them.
After you make nice with Vance, and tell the lead guy in Arefu (Evan?) about the deal, you can return to Vance and he will teach you the vampirism perk, which will allow you to get useful health from Blood Packs. Evan also has the Repair bobblehead in his house, though I haven't found a way to get in with negative karma for breaking & entering.

I found (so far) that the karma can be balanced without too much trouble - if I break in somewhere and rob it, I make sure
I do something like give some purified water to that guy outside megaton, to get good karma back again.
I wiped out the Family, and I'm still a good guy (so far!)

Every 24 hours or so, in game, the vendors get more cash.
I find that it's easiest to shift my stuff at the places with the most vendors. My prefered spot is that rebuilt battleship city down south east. I think it's called Rivet City or something.
My home was in Megaton so if I had stuff that I couldn't sell I'd just put it in my locker for later use. I haven't played the game in a while but I'm guessing I probably have dozens of fully repaired Assaultriffles, Miniguns, flamers, Laserriffles, etc.
