Wait was this at the good camp where he was happier?

Yeah that's the annoying part. He moved from the other camp that he hated, back to the one he liked but it's different sets of kids each week so he just happened to end up in a group with this psycho kid this week in that camp.

Update is that the wife put the fear of god into the camp directors today (she said the woman was visibly upset that this had escalated), and they are keeping that kid away from mine and even at the end of the day when the camps are all together in a big group they will keep them separated. She told them they need to let the other parents know that this wasn't just a minor incident and that my sons injuries are substantial, and they are going to make note in the injury report (which was not given to me) that she is taking him to the doctor to have him looked over.

My hopefully outcome is that the kids parents know the extent of the damage so they can talk to their son accordingly. If they don't know then they can't have a talk about his clear aggression.

The silver limning is that a few weeks back in a different science camp my son made friends with a girl he's calling his BFF and out turns out that she's in this weeks camp with him so that's thing for him to focus on when he's back for the rest of the week.

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest guys.

I would NOT have been reasonable yesterday when I saw the extent of then injury...I would have probably started yelling. A day later my anger had cooled enough. Though I admit letting my more social wife handle them is better than anti-social me handle them even today as I would have been.....meaner.

This is Mr NAB and I in reverse. You only want me to deal with whatever it is if it requires some "We ride at dawn" level of putting the fear of god into the situation.

Anything else, he's a much cooler head and likes other people more than me Posted Image

I assume it helps that you're never more than 6ft away from some kind of medieval weaponry...

these relationship blurbs are v funny... the LadyByss is absolutely the one way way faster and more likely to go full blast nuclear on someone or something and leave diplomacy/negotiation/peacekeeping/damage-control to me (yay), but if I am the one hitting red alert (rare) she is suddenly stone cold tactical. It's a running joke between us that if she is calm it means that something really bad is happening.

My wife went to pick son up yesterday after the Camp director guaranteed that though they hadn't separated the other kid into the other camp group they would keep them 100% away from each other, ....so of course the kid was standing right near my son at pickup and my son was afraid to go get his bag because it was next to the kid and he was afraid he would do something to him.

So my wife went ballistic and marched up to the camp director and said "You promised my son would be safely away from the other kid and he's not" and the camp director was apologetic but my wife was like "I'm pulling him from Camp tomorrow, and you should really be dealing with this better since that kid could kick off against some other kid and it could be worse that time" and then turned on her heel and walked out.

We asked about the kids parents being informed the full extent of the attack and not just downplayed as "boys will be boys" and they said they had and the parents where apologetic to them.

Right but if this had been my son attacking another kid I would be finding out who the parents are, telling them I would 100% deal with my sons behaviour and making him write a sorry note to the other kid...like telling the camp you're apologetic does nada.

Anyways, we will be going there today to make sure the incident report (that goes to the town apparently) is correct and adding in the doctors note from when she examined his injuries.

What a shitshow. It's crazy... both my kids have been in little tussles and altercations with other kids since they were toddlers, it happens, kids are kids...and it's usually isolated and minor (a punch or a scratch or a bump; usually over a toy) but this was extreme and they are 7-9 year olds now so it's much less usual.

Anyways, they were not going to be in camp next week anyways, and on Friday we leave to go to the UK for 10 days, so most of the rest of the Summer is with us. Here's hoping camp next year goes better.

It fascinates me when a cliche becomes too powerful. When TV replaces culture. Admittedly this is from things I have seen on social media but it reflects the current zeitgeist on some level I believe.

At least I assume portrayals of American dads on TV is partially responsible for this creepy vibe some American men/ dads seem to have about keeping their daughters pure/virginal/chaste. Did they forget how they got a daughter. There’s a difference between boundaries such as thinking your 14 year old daughter is too immature to date and the cliche of threatening your 18 year old daughters prom date with guns/violence or somehow thinking that a grown women shouldn’t date. I haven’t done a study or anything but I am sure this is men imitating a comedy gag that has somehow become real, or at least some people think it is? I don’t know how much of it is real either or just men talking about it as if it is but I see it way too often and it’s creepy and weird.

Yeah, this is a North American thing (if not a more American thing) and it's real unfortunately. Like on the latest edition. Big Brother, there was this young guy named Rome...typical midwest muscle bro who cosplays as a "nerd" who "likes Pokemon"....and he seems like a bit of a douchbag in how he speaks to women but nothing crazily over the top...he got into a showmance with a female player on day 2, claiming he loved her and made out with her all the time.

People found his social media (TikTok account) and every SINGLE video is "If I ever have a daughter and she does ______" which should let you know that this is not a trope that Hollywood invented, it's real and still prevalent.

The practice of jokingly threatening young men over romantic relationships with daughters is a velvet glove method of enacting violent control over women. It's popular among exactly the population who wants to learn or deepen the practice of controlling women at all times. It's usually paired with financial control and keeping the family in debt/having young children to make leaving much, much harder to do. A big chunk of the Midwest/evangelical crowd really leans into it on social media.

It's also a depressing view of what young men are socialized to do with women and does not do a single thing to empower the women or retrain the men into non controlling/non violent interactions.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Went to my grandmothers 100th birthday celebration on the weekend and my brother in law told me his mom is doing MAID today. She has cancer that was diagnosed in December, but they had a plan for her to fight it...she was recently put into long term care as she had other issues that my BIL could not manage (she lived on their property in her own space), and she didn't like that , or their palliative care options so she just up and decided to use MAID last week, and scheduled it for today.

So that's three people in my orbit of that age bracket (Boomers) that have used it, my mom, his mom, and a family friend. It sucks to lose them, but I'm glad they get to go out in their own choosing.

Can second that. Even the "highways" were ... tight. Gorgeous landscape - with nowhere to pull over and take a photo. :p
