It's usually much more benign when a child. It's the adults that have enough weight to snap an ankle sideways or break their spine.

Trampolines are indeed scary things that people don't treat as scary.

Bounce castles give more cushion though.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Withdrew $50 from an ATM today. 30 mins later I realised I hadn't actually taken the cash from the slot because I was distracted. Went back but ...

That was going to be my spend at the Lifeline bookfest this weekend, so I guess it's going to end up being my donation to Ipswich ... minus the browsing for books. :p

I'm doing that more and more lately, getting distracted, forgetting things/words, feeling like it's getting more and more difficult to concentrate. I hope it's only because I've been cranky and anxious recently, not because of some underlying physiological ... thingy.

ATM's actually suck up cash and cards that haven't been removed after a time. I once did the same thing and called the 13 number. The next day they checked the atm and the record showed my money had been taken back in by the atm so I still got my money. Maybe you should call them?

Well I left my number with centre management and called my credit union and made a report (they said it's 30 seconds before it gets taken back in and happens a lot) and they sent it off. So if it got sucked back in hopefully I should get it recredited. If not, it's because someone else got it. We shall see.

I do not understand why trampolines and bouncy castles still exist. Every time I see somebody on those things, I think about how badly they could get fucked up in a split second.

I remember when I was a teenager, I sort of lost my footing and faceplanted in a bouncy castle and the rest of my body decided to just continue its trajectory over my head and neck. Felt like I nearly broke in half.

Considering how many accidents you see on Youtube, you'd think some panel of doctors would come out and advocate the state-sponsored destruction of all bouncy plastic/metal objects.

The panel concluded a thinning of the herd was a necessary evil. Plus the trauma room doctors were on the panel.

The problem is that the herd isn't thinned out, because you damn doctors keep the son of a bitches alive. Basically creating a drain on the National Healthcare budget. Be honest, you support bouncy castles because they keep doctors in business. I am on to you.

But in all seriousness, I wish Macros cousin the best.

My cousin fell off a trampoline at the weekend, got a call early Sunday morning telling us they suspected it could be total paralysis.
Into surgery Sunday morning, came out with a considerably more favourable prognosis, cord seemed to be intact and the damage wasn't above c4/5, anything above there is basically game over. A lot of swelling pressuring the spine had caused initial difficulties.
Latest report today is that he gaining motor functions in his arms again and they're going to take the tube out tomorrow to let him breathe unaided. But the family has been told that loss of all movement below the chest is still a serious possibility.
He's getting married next year too

Sorry man to make tongue and cheek of this. I missed this post. Awful and I hope he recovers ok despite the grim injury.

I figured it was tongue in cheek jest, no worries.
I'm just out of bed here, working night shifts so I'll find out if there's any more word soon. It's just chilling how quickly someone's life could be devastated, he's a young and very fit and healthy man, competes at a regional and possibly national level in field hockey, now this.

Cords not broken, but there's a lot of damage, 90% chance of lower body paralysis.

Wow, Maccy sorry to hear that. I hope he recovers.

Messing with me (nowhere near as serious) :

Spending 3 days at the beach = awesome

Going in to work after spending 3 days at the beach = brutal.

I think I may have pulled my r shoulder again. Played volleyball for about 6 h on Sunday, and did some tubing yesterday. Now it's a bit sore nd lifting stuff causes some discomfort.

We keep trying to ban them, but then we get accused of trying to promote a "nanny state" and trying to "bubble wrap the kids" and "killing everyone's fun". The most we've been able to manage is getting the manufacturers to close up the springs and fence the thing in, but there are still a lot of those old school ones left getting passed around on craigslist.

We still can't convince people to wear bike helmets for, chissakess! There are apparently still holdouts who think that seatbelts are some kind of conspiracy.

I love trampolines. I had some memorable fun at neighbour kids' yard playing on those and nothing bad happened. But I've also seem some horrific injuries. It only takes a split second. All in all, not worth it.

I will say a prayer for your cousin's penis tonight before bed, Macros.

Godspeed, little soldier, godspeed.

That's definitely awful. Here's hoping he beats the odds. Not everyone can, of course, but those that do seem to need positive head space and determination, so helping w/ that is probably the best outsiders can offer.

Getting stressed to hell.

Eventually found a nice house to rent, put our application in and rather than the letting agent waiting for everything to come back they go and take a second application. So we are now in limbo on whether we have the house or not.

To top it off, informed my LL that we would be moving, she wanted 3 months notice, then decided 2. Legally I'm only bound to give her 40 days notice, however as per above I am no longer sure.

And the cherry on the cake? our LL of 5 years appears to have 'forgotten' to deposit our deposit into one of the 3 LEGALLY BINDING Government schemes as she is legally bound to do. So we are having to seek legal advice on what to do as she has essentially pocketed our deposit (oh and she has decided that since we are moving she is going to sell the house YAY!!)

Stress levels incredibly high at the moment and suffering from blinding headaches. Why is moving so bloody hard??

Nah, I just stretch, and then go play lots of footy.

Speaking of which: got an outdoor game @ 7 PM, and then indoor @ 8:50 PM. Both teams likely catastrophically short players, and I'll have to try to get from one venue to the other. Oh and it's another "feels over 30 degrees" day out there.

Today's gonna be a looooong day....

Family uselessness really comes out of the woodwork when something SLIGHTLY inconveniences them.

Nearly-due, heavily pregnant (and uncomfortable) wife to her retired father: I have to bring the dog to your place today (our dog plays with their dog almost every day for a few hours) as it's too hot to walk him in this heat (we live in a condo, they have a backyard).

Her father: Well that's inconvenient, they are coming to do the deck today and they use vacuums (dog hates vacuums). Continues to grumble about it and be pissed off.

Meanwhile, my nearly-due, heavily pregnant (and uncomfortable) wife has spent more than a MONTH of her summer not only advocating for her mothers knee-surgery rehab, but helping her father out by being there every day to alleviate the strain on him.

I just can't anymore. The amount of kindness my wife unloads onto her family, in comparison with the amount they show her in return is staggeringly different. She's not been able to enjoy and relax during her pregnancy, she's literally been doing things for everyone in her family who can't since the beginning of the year. I'm not even exaggerating. Meanwhile no one does anything for her, and they fucking complain when she needs the slightest favour.
