You can choose your friends, but not your family.
I think every family has at least one ungrateful lazy shit

Yep. This is true. I think we have more than one in fact.

We make great sources of anekdotes, though! In twenty years time you'll think back to us fondly and go "Oh, that uncle Gorefest and his silly ways" with a little amused shake of the head.

On a different note, I just received a delivery of cell culture plates that I was convinced I hadn't ordered. Checked the product code and to my surprise I actually did order the buggers. Back in March 2012. Over 4.5 years ago. And our finance team actually paid for them as well, as the grant was still active. Wow.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

You have my sympathies with this one QT. Family is one of the hardest things to deal with imho. It's supposed to be a group of people that you can call and rely on - no questions asked. Instead, it's a group of people who constantly bitch about how you're not doing your part, but only call when they need favors.

I suspect that classic model family does exist somewhere, but I sure as hell have never seen them.

Reminds me of an episode of Black Books where Fran discovers her Eastern European roots (minute 7:50).

I think Cap'n Crunch changed its recipe cuz these Crunch Berries are getting hella soggy hella fast. No wonder they haven't been emphasizing anti-sog in the ad campaigns lately. This is totally bogus.

I just can't anymore. The amount of kindness my wife unloads onto her family, in comparison with the amount they show her in return is staggeringly different. She's not been able to enjoy and relax during her pregnancy, she's literally been doing things for everyone in her family who can't since the beginning of the year. I'm not even exaggerating. Meanwhile no one does anything for her, and they fucking complain when she needs the slightest favour.

It's harder for daughters too. I'm sure there are multiple reasons for it, but the sense of obligation seems to get hammered in harder for us than it does for sons. If you suggested her to just say no once in a while, I have a feeling she'd be like, "But I can't. Who else would do it?" My brother just has to say, "I'm too busy" and gets a bunch of pity about how busy he is. But if I were to do the same, I'd be getting the cold shoulder for months.

I understand they have recently reduced the broken glass content by almost 30%.

You might want to have a nice chill pre-emptive discussion with her how re how that's almost certainly going to have to change once baby arrives.

Also, key phrase re dealing with such family - "Sorry. Baby. Can't.".

I know! ...and Capn Crunch just doesn't taste right without the blood and severed mouth tissue.

Ah the down. Really depressed, more tired and hopeless. I flick through photos of beautiful women in seemingly vibrant lives and feel passed by as no one responds as usual. I want to have a life again, but feel everyone is too busy or distracted to bother. It's the loneliness that kills.

Man I feel so fucking rotten even though I was left with little choice last night. I tried every night for over a month to trap that possum so I could relocate it. It just wouldn't cooperate. I don't kill unless I plan to eat but I shot it to prevent further damage to my vette and to stop having my mutt having a fit at 3Am. Unfortunately it didn't drop but climbed back up underneath vette in its spot where I can't get it and blood was puddling down. I still don't know if I killed it and thats why I feel bad. Damn my aim I didn't want the fella to suffer. That's going to be hell trying to get that body out.

If i'm ever going to bleed out and die from a gunshot wound, i want it to be in a vette.

Time to start self-prescribing happy pills, Gust? Or maybe speak with a councilor? You are going through a pseudo-grief period.

My life is brimming with excitement. Next week we are expecting a new freezer for the lab, I can hardly contain myself thinking about what epic disasters could be awaiting us. Last time they gave us a fridge-freezer instead of a freezer and subsequently the delivery guy had to chase me back down through the hospital corridors to exchange the items. Oh, how we laughed. Life doesn't get much more exhilarating than this.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

Seems to be a mental health related incident. So probably no IS instigated attack.

Fucking letting agents have no honour at all.

Express interest in a property Monday, complete all our checks by Tuesday afternoon, call letting agent to let them know to get advised another couple have expressed interest (after our stuff started) and the little fuckwads have given the house to the other people. because (and this is the letting agents words) 'we asked for stuff to be done to the house (we didn't, all we asked was if we were there in the long term, could we install a shower in family bathroom, although specified its not an issue and just a question) and because they could move in 'pretty much immediately' we were able to move in on the 1 September as we couldn't afford 2 rents, plus our notice period took us to mid September.

Now we have a somewhat hectic attempt to find a 4 bed house that takes cats (needle in a hay stack anyone) and so far the only other one we have seen will mean we are saving pennies pcm rather than pounds.

Feeling somewhat fucked off as you can see
