Ha. I have doctor's permission to drink beer!!

I've got some sort of constriction in my throat and I've been puking up about 90% of what I've been eating for the last couple of months. I discovered last week that beer helps me keep food down. The ENT today told me that was because the alcohol partially paralyzes the stomach and keeps it from spasming.

Tomorrow I get to do a Barium swallow and a couple of other things. No endoscope though thankfully; I hate those.

Hehehe. I puked all their Barium back up before leaving the office. From what I could see of the screen and what the radiologist told me, the hole where the esophagus meets stomach is blocked off. Possibly scar tissue from GERD or from a prior surgery.

I guess I can stop googling 'esophogeal tumor' now.

Groove messing part of that is Barium really does not repeat well.

I had problems with puking as well few years ago. Though not that bad.
Ive been on gastroscopy aswell, also they put another tubes through my nose that I had there for a day I guess.
I actually dont remember details much, but it turned out there were some problems with GERD, maybe scar too, maybe not. Anyway they also found out my stomach is weirdly crooked, which means hes not fully accesible so its capacity is lower than it should be.
Anyway back to the GERD, they prescribed me med called Ranisan, it's active subtance is Ranitidine. I used it regularly for some time and it got way better. I still use that time to time when I dont feel good and usually it helps me.
Your problem seems to be more complicated than that, but it might temporary help you atleast to eat your dinner if nothing else.

Is it just me or is the idea of someone named Gnaw having that sort of ailment ironic?

Or is that just coincidence? Damn you, Alanis!

Grrr some lady in a Mini Cooper apparently turned around to answer her 6 yr olds question and in that time frame she managed to slam right in the back of my truck while I'm was at red light. The momentum then through me into the back of SUV in front of me. Then when ambulance was there she doesn't send her kid with them even though the father was there also. My kids would have gone u better believe that shit.

Uh BK I hope both you and the kid are ok?

I'm getting old enough that I don't know whether an Alanis reference is an insult or not. Sadness fills me. :)

For the record Barium tastes even less good coming back up. I missed the Radiologist's shoes though.

Between him and a couple of things Gusty told me, it looks like the problem lies at the bottom of the esophagus where it ties into the stomach. GERD has caused scar tissue to build up over the years. Fixable and non life threatening.

Get it looked at and recorded by a doctor, in case you need evidence further down the track.

Good to hear!

WMWMG: My place of work offered me the opportunity to train up as a fee earner some time ago, but it's been getting delayed by my surgery site being temperamental and needing time off for it. However, things are getting so bad in the office I'm genuinely thinking of jumping ship and going elsewhere. It used to be a lovely place to work, then the new secretary joined and because she's a "I say what I like about anyone" type it's turned it into your typical bitchy office - probably because the others never had a focus such as her to do it with before. She treats everything as a competition, blames me for all her mistakes and its being enabled by the managers seemingly having a "its too much effort" attitude towards tackling her about it - to the point that some of the junior fee earners now just give all their work to me so they can avoid her backchat, which is causing my workload to spiral. My Fibro and what not has started to play up again (it's been fine for a year or so) and I'm bringing it home with my and worrying constantly.

Have spoken to my manager about the situation more than once and it's always "it'll be looked into". Nothing changes except me getting more miserable.

Bleurgh!

Do you have opportunities to go elsewhere? If so, it never hurts to look. Sure, it would be great if things get better again, but don't let it ruin all the interest and joy you have in your work. You'll probably have to continue doing (something like) it for a while. An unpleasant working environment tends to ruin moods.
'When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, 'it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.'

'The question is,' said Alice, 'whether you can make words mean so many different things.'

'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master — that's all.'

TheRetiredBridgeburner: Challenge her to fisticuffs... or slip laxatives into her coffee or something. Or you know, jump ship. A hostile work environment is not worth it. Trust me, I'm a bear.

I have absolutely no motivation to do anything anymore. How long has it been since I last visited the forum? Months! And I love this place... Work is eating into my free time, which is both good and bad. It means more money for me, but less time to do all the things I want to do, but can't be bothered to.

I've been putting off writing a simple e-mail for weeks. It just seems like too much effort right now. The people I write to might reply, and then I might have to work...and although I love all my jobs, I just can't summon the will to do anything... le sigh.

A random rant:

People. I know I don't fit into people's pretty nice world, so can you please get over your delicate sensibilities and stop staring? Or pretending like I'm some monster just because I don't jump in your face all smiles and overflowing happiness? And more importantly, I know you're staring, and I know you don't like it when I stare back. Which is why I do it.

Funnily enough, it seems that it's mostly younger people and people my age who have a problem with my appearance, while older people have the wherewithal to open their mouths and start up a conversation.

I'd think I'm just imagining, but there are those older people who do ask me about my hair, so it's definitely real.

hmmmm... maybe you ought to consider getting over your own sensibilities on this issue, Puck... Sad truth is that most people you (or I) meet casually during an average day think off you (me), or about you (me), for about 5 seconds (or maybe a smidgen longer...) ...anyway... most people are far to pre-occupied with their own problems to be giving much time to people they don't particular know. I wouldn't worry too much about their reactions if I was you. Actually, come to think of it... I have heard that creating images for Malazan Wikis makes you totally oblivious to such staring :)

Seems weird to me - either you like to appear as you do in order to provoke a reaction, or.. you don't give a crap what people think. If the former, then why rant when you get a reaction? And if the latter, why care what anyone else thinks?
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

I assume your hair due its style/colour is very different from the average? Then I am afraid there is very little to be done to stop people gaping. I can relate. I am an average 6 inches taller than 'tall' people in my state. Wherever I go, I stand out. And people stare. I once caught a middle aged man literally staring at me with an open mouth on the bus. Every time I step into public transport I get stares like I am about to break into some sort of rampage. I have had random girls literally squeak and jump into corners when seeing me suddenly in a dark lane. Its irritating, but not really in your hands.

Bah. Radiologist reported that the Barium swallow test showed to constrictions and diagnosed hietal hernia and peptic ulcer.

The surgeon told me today he had watched the images 3 times and couldn't see evidence of any such constrictions so he's going to do an upper GI endoscopy next week to "see what we can see and take biopsies of a few things".

I was so much happier with "yeah, we see the reason you're puking 3 and 4 times a day; here's some meds that make prevacid look like bubblegum" than with a vague fishing expedition requiring general anesthetic.
