We have had years to get used to the cooties of Loki and it appears her magical bundle of joy is revenging us upon her with his own cooties.

The Malazan world is cyclical for sure.

I'm not against hot women.

Anyway, here's a depressing (but well written) story from Vice. I know Vice the magazine sucks compared to Vice the HBO show, but this one's a good read:

Bah. My niece had a policy of not letting her kids know her maternal grandfather (which is understandable; my father was not the nicest indivisual in the world by any stretch.) I found our today that that policy apparently extends to me.

I'm glad i found that out before I committed to building a new home here. Going to have to take a serious look at the Costa Rica option.

Other mothers. Not all of them, just those who belong to the 'Mothers know best' philosophy.

There's a breed of mother out there that thinks of itself as some kind of magical, higher-than-thou, being that by virtue of nothing more than pregnancy and labour, makes them superior in all ways to fathers when it comes to raising or cleaning or feeding or ANYTHING to do with children.

Get fucked. Seriously. I'm sick and tired of hearing how mothers are more important or somehow more capable of raising children then fathers are.

And I don't want to hear about that bonding crap - yes, bonding is important but fathers are just as capable of bonding with a newborn as mothers are IF GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY!
Fathers are too often left out of the equation or underestimated or just simply written-off when it comes to raising kids and it pisses me off. Posted Image

Having a hard time finding a playgroup for my son. He turns two on Monday and he doesn't have a lot of interaction with other kids so I think it would be beneficial for him. He needs to learn how to share, make friends, as well as learning conflict resolution etc.

Problem is, I am limited in my options due to the fact that I don't drive and have to rely on public transport.

So, I've been calling around to the local options and am now starting to rethink the whole thing.

On one call, I asked about the description as a 'Mother's playgroup' and what that actually meant. The lady said that they encourage mothers to attend instead of fathers. I asked what the rationale was behind that and she made one of those 'fathers never know what they're doing anyways' jokes which are never funny and I wasn't in the mood for so instead of laughing in agreement responded with 'Are you saying fathers aren't as capable as taking care of children and so you don't include them at your playgroup?' Suffice to say, I don't think they'll be getting back to me anytime soon.

Then on another call I mentioned that my son is up to date with his vaccinations and the woman from the playgroup 'kindly' informed me that vaccinations aren't always good for children and that most of them are unnecessary and just a way to make money for pharmaceutical companies plus they can have terrible side-effects like causing developmental problems like autism. Suffice it to say, I won't be getting back to them anytime soon.

Ugh.

It was more the wanton objectification in the question that I expected you to twat me on the noggin for.

I've encountered that sort before. A mate's brother is currently embroiled in a custody issue with one; unfortunately he's impulsive and (understandably) emotional about the situation which doesn't help.

On my part? No kids. But the idea terrifies me. I'm petrified that I'm going to flake as a dad and fail the kids.

Kids - nope. Other half and I decided we're going to be mad cat people instead :headbang: Besides which, Fid is more than enough to contend with most days!

A friend of mine has just split up with the father of her little girl, whose mother was exactly the sort of mother Loki is describing. There were many a sweary rant after she visited!

B.B. King has died. He made so much beautiful, fantastic music. Is he the last of the great bluesmen?

A mate's partner has been in the Intensive Care Unit for the last couple of weeks. In an induced coma for the last few days, but I haven't heard from him in a few. Texted him earlier but nada so far. Could be in ICU for months, was the last I heard. Hope he gets back to me and things have improved.

Also, not a biggie but ...

Gave a 2 year old a birthday card for a 3 year old. Was so happy to find one with Peppa Pig's little brother George that I didn't bother to read the actual age written on it. :headbang:

Hilarity aside, he actually likes it so much that he has been carrying it around with him all day and keeps 'reading' it to himself. :p

(Hope you're friend's partner pulls through soon.)

Glad it was able to provide so much inadvertent pleasure. :p

Ta. Just got a text a few minutes ago saying they came out of the coma yesterday and now have been taken from ICU to a ward for the next few weeks, so good progress there. :D

Just found out my uncle had a heart attack earlier today and had to be air-lifted to hospital. Apparently, he had a second major heart attack in transit and is now in intensive care. They're in Spain so it's making it hard to get updates.

If you pray, please keep him in your prayers, he only very recently became a grandfather and hasn't met his grandchild yet.

What's messing with my groove is that after 12(!) years being a member of this forum, I have decided to move on. You all are a great group and I wish each and every one of you the best.

Take care,

OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Fair enough, buddy, safe travels and drop in again whenever you want
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Thank you :p

As of the last update, he is still in ICU and they are working on stabilising him enough so he can be transferred to a hospital with a dedicated cardiac department.

My aunt and uncle recently moved to rural Spain so their nearest hospital isn't much more than an emergency department. So they need to get him to a larger hospital but, as always, there's a risk associated with moving him.

I feel really bad for my aunt as she doesn't have any local friends or family to lean on.
