It's ghastly hot (yesterday and today 42 deg C), even for here.

My only solace is that it's ruining the G20 delegates taxpayer-funded holidays (seriously, haven't you dipshits ever heard of videoconferencing?). :)

My phone went swimming this evening.

Have to go and buy a new one tomorrow.

My co-worker asked me if we could swap shifts for today. Fine, okay. Then this morning she was like 'Hey, actually, can you come in to work earlier?' Uuuhm, no. It's messing with my groove because, technically, I could, but if I do that, she'll ask again and again, and while I want to be nice, I also want to keep my working hours to a manageable amount. Agh.

Also, thanks to migraines, I spent half the day in bed feeling sorry for myself, which might contribute to my groove being messed with :)

Horrible day. Thought I would get some time to myself after a long week finally today (after my wife dumped the kids on me for half of yesterday unexpectedly) and guess what?! Flat tire. Had to sign up for roadside assistance, and now have 1 of the munchkins while waiting for a tow for my wife and other kid (and all the time after waiting for them to get the tire replaced as well since the stupid AAA doesn't have the lug wrenches required to change to a spare tire). Did I mention we have only one car? Or that it is freaking cold outside, with snow.

Spent half the day trying to get a new mobile phone and get signed up to a contract. Between the phone company's ridiculous fussiness, and my banks unreal stupidity, I have to wait until at least tomorrow before being able to get this sorted (or else it'll take another 3 days).

The bank stuff is particularly great. My bank now only posts out a full statement every 6 months!! which normally isnt an issue. But now when i need one quickly, the fastest they can manage it is 3-5 business days! Even if i went into my branch tomorrow, they can't print me out my own statement. What the fuck is that nonsense? The actual bricks and mortar bank isnt allowed to print a customers bank statement. So, on the phone they let me sign up for internet banking. So as we finish, I say, I guess i can just log on now, and print out my current statement. Of course not, to do that I'd have to have my mobile phone registered with them, so they could send out another code, and even then it would take another 3-5 working days to register for the ability to do online e-statements.

I literally just finished filling out forms for my car insurance, and signing up for a new goverment ID card, both of which required less proof than this. Unreal.

What a brilliant catch 22 two factor authorization for e-banking and a mobile phone contract setup has you in.

The refusal to print one statement for a physical visit is absurd though. That's worth having a talk with someone there about it.

My mom: You should have watched that interview with Putin on TV. Such a sensible man. What's he to blame for? Everyone's ganging up on him, while the west's just squabbling like kids.
Me: ...
My mom: I know you disagree with me and hate Putin. I hope that one day you will grow up and see the error of your ways*. It's not his fault the fascists are parading around in Charkov** and shooting people. You really don't know what you're talking about.
Me: Wha?

* Yes, she did say THAT.
** The nearest city to the village we're from.

I really, really want to say a thing ot two about this, it sure requieres some clenching of teeth not to, but I am NOT getting into any kind of argument with my mother about politics. Just no. She has zero idea of what I think about it, and knowing her, she also does not want to know, anyway *sigh*

There was also this gem recently..
My mom: Why are you writing this down?
Me: Because I might otehrwise forget. Too much other stuff on my mind.
My mom: Oh, don't pretend like you ever think about anything. Poor you.

..ugh, thanks, I guess? Ah, it would be funny if I had not to deal with it :)

Oh god, another week of my epic intensive on the job training. On the plus side I'm in Manchester all week. On the minus I'm working my arse off so can't enjoy the fact I'm back home :) Also on top of spending all day with the chap who is training me I will have to eat breakfast and dinner each day with him too. I'm quite good at being friendly when I don't feel like it but if I don't get a break to vent my innate grumpiness then bad things can happen.

Work, again.

Just had a 90yr old in after cardiac arrest; he didn't make it. His daughter is on the way in.. she doesn't know yet.

I should be kind of used to this by now, but I seem to be getting worse at dealing with it. Part of my brain just can't help pointing out that this could be me in 50 years if I'm lucky enough to last that long in the first place.. and my daughter coming in.

And that after lasting to what people call a 'good old age', you still end up on a gurney with your clothes ripped open and a bunch of strangers tidying up around you before they go for coffee.

I don't know whether having kids has done this to me or whether I'm just developing a depressive streak, but I fucking hate it either way.

I really am stuck in the wrong job.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

I think you're bound to evolve the way you feel about being exposed to that kind of thing routinely. In terms of the way death happens in the modern world - it's kind of a shame that it has become a medical process when historically I suppose we either died at home or dropped on the spot/in the middle of an accident. I suppose if you think about it, in the absence of other information, better planning and a DNR then most people would prefer that the opportunity was there to at least try to save them no matter how undignified it all ends up. Our arrival is undignified so might as well head out in the same way. But yeah, I hope I die at home!

Bought a prepaid credit card to use to buy the new dragon age game, doesn't work, went back to see if the clerk activated it, she did, yet I can't use to on Origin nor can I check the account balance on the website that's literally only there to check the account balance. Ok, well fuck, this sucks, but I only ever occasionally enjoy life, between grey landscapes of negative emotions sometimes there is bright spots such as video games so I'm not really willing to let this go. I make Paypal account, apparently it's pretty easy to use, transfer some money from my bank account. It's arrive on the twenty fucking sixth. This might be a sense of having no attention span or whatever if I hadn't been waiting for at least two years for this game to come out. Honestly I feel like life occasionally just wants to deny me the few things I actually enjoy just to fuck with me, I know that's just me being self centered but getting a video game and playing it shouldn't be this fucking exhausting, and now on top of not being able to veg out and enjoy it I've spent double the price and I have to wait ten days to play it. I needed it now, fuck.

What's the cc company's excuse for not giving you a full refund on a card that doesn't work??

@worry, I'm not sure yet I called the 'customer help-line' and it was terrible. I'm gonna try tomorrow after school to see if I can't sort it out.

Only just found out that Jackson Browne is playing the Sage Gateshead on Thursday.
What's messing with my groove is, I can't decide on wether to go or not.

Yeah it's a school night and I've no one to go with really, as most people I know have dreadful taste in music, and it's a short-term-notice-added on expense.
But, I love him soooo much, and probably won't get another chance to see him. And it's literally up the road.

I say go.

In a month or two, you're probably not going to care that you didn't have someone to go with, or that it was a short term cost, or that it was a school night. You're unlikely to regret going. On the other hand, when you've forgotten about it being a school night etc, not-going is going to seem like a bad decision. Especially if you won't get another chance to see him.
