But so many of my friends have already travelled around the world, and I haven't set one foot off this continent. We are a big family so it's not that easy, but I'm getting so frustrated. I plan to travel when school is done, whether I go this time or not.
Given the enormous amount of interesting things to do and places to go in Australia, I would think that spending a decade exploring Australia would be viable. Explore your own country. See the penguins on the southern beaches, snorkel the Great Barrier Reef, learn how to surf, chase a few wallabies, look out at the desert from Ayers Rock, learn how to handle yourself alone in cities that aren't super far from family and friends.
Relax. Don't see it as "They get to do this and I don't." You can and probably will get more experience exploring Australia by yourself or with a long leash than they will, shuffling along the predetermined tour route. And it won't cost fuckin' $7000. Or maybe it will, but spread out over way more activities and time.
I've been all over the world and it honestly didn't get all that great until I was old enough and smart enough to kick out on my own for long periods of time. And being of age to drink and have some romantic fun help the experiences get way more awesome.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.
