I'm sat in the car listening to the radio waiting for someone. I thought Vanilla Ice "Ice Ice Baby" was coming on but it's "Under Pressure" instead. Sad face.

That beginning sound came on at work today, I immediately thought of this thread. Which way did it go?

Ice Ice Baby. And i immediately stopped working and sang the whole thing like a boss.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

Can't get back to reading. It's like a part of me is fundamentally broken, and it fucking sucks.

I had this problem and I'm still not back to reading as much as before but I noticed two trends that contributed. Cant say if it will help you or not but maybe.

The first was how I was reading. I fell into a habit of reading only before bed and when in the bath (I find this very relaxing) however this meant I had basically an hour or less each day to read. This lead to me reading a book incredibly slowly, forgetting about a book and reading becoming less and less a part of my day, week, month etc. This I think was my primary issue.

The second was I notice that the more I read the less I will accept mediocrity. Less and less books grabs my attention. This is not necessarily a bad thing but it meant I was becoming more and more risk averse to trying new things. Especially since reading time was getting smaller and smaller.

I managed to jump start my reading again by selecting a sequel to a series I like and scheduling a day to read it. Got me back into the swing of things. I also made a list of books, the sequels to series I like and their release dates and a few recommendations from the forum to work through.

See, for me it was a beyond medicore tome that upset my reading, but it was offputting enough that I feel physically damaged in the sense that I can't bring myself to read at all (and it's 'award winning' to boot).

So far not even Gardens has been able to de-funk me.

Which book?

KOTW. I got halfway through and DNF'd it in disgust. Tried several books to rekindle my interest in reading since, but nothing has worked. It's like my soul is injured.

My issue was less existantial and more practical, but similar in effect. I just didn't have the hours in the day to sit and read and when i did i either fell asleep or found myself too easily/quickly irritated with anything less than MEMORIES OF ICE level awesome.
The solution, which i recommend, was earbooks. A good narrator can turn an even mediocre story great, and the change to enjoying a story while commuting, doing laundry, running, whatever worked for me.
The odd time i have the opportunity to sit/read, i find graphic novels/comics on my tablet hold my attention nicely.

Messing with my groove is the age old moral/ethical dilemma of whether to have pizza or tacos for lunch today.

Yes, a good audiobook narrator is priceless.

The chap who did the Aaronovitch books - he is so so good. Mary Robinette Kowal has narrated Seanan McGuire's Toby Day books and she is really good too. Plus all the Riyria books.

Also KOTW = Kings of the Wyld ot Knight of the Word?

Kings of the Wipe. Maybe if I can find the accursed tome and be shot of it my desire will return.

I iust... Don't want to read any more. And it sucks. Not even Erikson is an exciting prospect now.

Have you considered whether the problem may be that you're cold and dead inside?

Even with being dead inside, that a terrible book has destroyed my desire to read brings me back as a zombie. Prepare for idol dance routines.

This is scalper BOT shit and it’s irritating as hell. It’s taken us like 5 years in Ontario alone to set out laws preventing this, and ticketmaster have fought the govt every step of the way. Those bots are grabbing like 20tickets in one second and checking out and then throwing them up on stub hub at like 300% markup. Our government has also tried to curtail sites like stub hub and they’ve fought the govt tooth and nail too. Basically there are huge corporations that want to fleece the public for as much money as possible.

I feel for you man. Any chance some tix might pop up from a legit reseller? I find that on the Facebook pages for the actually night of the show, people who can’t go will offer to sell. Worth a look?

Things worked out, but not in the way we wanted.

Still it works out on paper for us. Next year is both my parents 60th birthdays.
So I was able to get 4 seated tickets for Wembley on the Friday night. Idea is (between the children) fly them out, nice hotel, bon Jovi Friday night (more for dad) then a westend show Saturday night (more for mum, something like mamma Mia, not book of Mormon) then either a day with family about London and fly home Monday or just fly home Sunday evening.

So booked the Wembley tickets, thinking that their best friends (actually dad's 2nd cousin now I think about it) could go with them.
So rang the friends, they had managed to get 2 tickets for bon Jovi in Dublin, but they were standing and they would rather seated.

'Well' says I, ' I'll swap you two seated tickets in London for 2 standing in Dublin!'

They're delighted to be getting away to London with my folks for their 60th birthday treat (it actually will be very close to mums birthday) and I got 2 tickets for bon Jovi in Dublin!

So in a shitty way it might have turned into a better set up as we were wondering what to do for their 60th. But still, fuck Ticketmaster

My mother cut her finger open so badly that she needed stitches.

How? She forgot she was cutting vegetables, while cutting vegetables.

The bird of prey centre owner is on one of his "I don't believe it unless I've seen it" rants again. Apparently nothing is factual unless he's seen evidence with his own eyes.

I have nothing against uneducated people.... until they turn the fact they're uneducated into a badge of honour to wear, and secondarily as a weapon to beat more educated people with.

If science was approached purely from the method of "seeing is believing", we'd all still be making fire out of sticks in a cave, you cretin.

Flat Earthers ftw.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

As long as she didn't forget WHY she was cutting them, then her memory and mind are fine (we all get into a groove sometimes and forget what we are doing).

I hope she's okay though man!

Yeah she is ok, She tried to lift heavy bags with that same hand today. I swear she is like a hyperactive 5 year old sometimes.

The memory issues are not bad yet. At the moment its mostly misplacing things.
