LA Weekly got bought and its editorial and writing staff eviscerated. Another crushing blow after what happened to Gothamist and related papers (LAist among them). Big city alt papers are dying not because of revenue or quality, but because billionaires are deliberately buying them out and neutering them or killing them outright.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

They are doing this because they do not want even the haphazard scrutiny of journalists upon their actions. Mostly because a big chunk of their actions really hurt people and society and they're not generally observable by the average person living their daily life. Without journalism, they can skate can convince people that they're not doing evil things, heck, they're doing the smart thing.

It's bad.

The middle click button of my very new, very expensive G602 mouse is not working correctly. I am not impressed. Blowing air (gods know why) at the middle button fixes it temporarily and was a solution well known by the internet implying this is a fairly common problem.

In other news corruption and incompetence in my country continues apace. Our currency has been downgraded to junk, Every state owned enterprise is in the red and asking for government bailouts while every state owned enterprise also has its board under investigation for corruption, by themselves! Naturally nothing has been found. The second in command of tax revenue was just cleared of money laundering charges but the investigation was not allowed to investigate the money! Only how he performed his duties at work.

That incest wasn't really pointless! It was gross but there was a point.

No there wasn't. Any other relationship would have served the same purpose without the ick factor.

It's not a good writer decision. Abyss is right. GGK's intent was clearly to get a rise out of the readers rather than do anything important with the characters.

You have this completely reversed from what it actually is.

GRRM has multiple families with incest in them and one of them at least has magical effects critical to the story related to it.

The way GGK sprung it on us, it has no narrative impact beyond making the reader go "ugh".

My new glasses were supposed to arrive today, but the delivery is taking its sweet sweet time and I'm sitting here on metaphorical hot coals 'cause I need to take them to the optometrist or whatever they're called to have some last adjustments made and aside from today I won't have time to do so for another whole week and I have a appointment in a couple of hours... :p A needs ma glasses, duh!

Just heard that two teachers in a very well known school in my city have been accused of raping a 4 year old student.

A 4 year old. And they did it in the school.

Feeling sickened.

Same shit, different day. They've been carting around my order for two days now. I'm not amused.

Edit: Didn't get my delivery. They 'couldn't find my adress'. On the town's most busy street. Translation: they ran out of time and couldn't bother. So I called customer service (since that's not the first time that's happened) and the bastard hung up on me the moment I mentioned I'd like know why my delivery's been cruising around town for two days :p

#FirstWorldProblems, but I need my glasses because for now I can work for two hours on a computer before I get headaches from squinting at the screen, which unfortunately means I'm chipping away at my second Advent Calendar entry at the lightnign speed of one hour a day.

I just had a fucking molar explode in my mouth and I bet the dentist is closed tomorrow. I think I’m going to be short a tooth by the end of this, there isn’t much left.

You have £100 million in the bank, just go live on a tropical island and stop gouging the rest of humanity you absolute stain on humanity.

Beyond my general dislike of the world ( I would genuinely condone a program that sees anyone who puts excessive profits deliberately before their workers health and welfare shot dead) what's bothering me on a personal level is small town people.
There is this horridly pervasive attitude where I live that if you're not married or heading that direction by 30 there must be something wrong with you

I wish life had a series of restore points.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.
