Last summer I was working with chili in the kitchen on the annual Freshmen Trip. I wasn't warned how strong the chili was and wasn't even using gloves.

It started with me rubbing sweat off my forehead. That was not a good idea at all. My head started to smart. Knowing this was about to get painful. I desperately asked how the hell I got this chili off. The chefs being either stupid or very cruel told me to just go wash with soap. I can tell you that this didn't work at all. Instead I managed to just further distribute the chili all over my face, it got in my eyes and on my lips and all over my hands. At this point it was beyond funny I was in serious pain as by body was telling me that it was pretty sure my face was on fire. The rest of the day I went around with a fiery red face and stinging hands. Luckily there was a fully stocked bar, and after I got pretty sauced I stopped noticing it too much.

What was worse was that I just couldn't get the chili off my fingers and hands. I tried washing them in milk, different oils, I even tried pouring make up removers all over them. Didn't help. The next two days my hands were fucked. I think the worst point came when I had to go to the toilet and I somehow managed to transfer a bit of the chili on to my sphincter. Its a good thing that there was no-one in the next cubicles because I seriously screamed like I'd just had my arse set on fire.

I am afraid of chili now.

Third year options were a delight, I had the choice of lots of good things for one option, and lots of shit ones for the other. I picked Heidegger as the best of a bad bunch, and was essentially told "go, write something about Heidegger's philosophy." I personally hate Heidegger because he writes like a berk, using normal words to mean something completely different, but still using the word in both its senses in the same sentence just to purposely confuse you, so even when you know what it all means, you're not quite sure if you've got what he's saying. Nietzsche is marginally more interesting so I thought I would use Heidegger's magnum opus on him as a starting point for my dissertation. Bad move, as it happens.

Im progressing far too slowly because even though I know what I want to do, I cant actually do it as I have to spend hours dissecting each sentence to make sure I've understood or expressed a term properly. Which means my politics dissertation (which is longer) is suffering as I cant work on that properly being so distracted by this. 3rd year, and more specifically my work organisation, is poo.

I have done this with hands that had recently been chopping onion, garlic, ginger and chili. The combination was pretty bad but not as bad as the time I had ground black pepper dust in my eye.

@RLY my condolences, putting down a pet is hard. I know what you're going through; my cat of 12 years was put down last year...tough times.

@AIJ, community service is fun! In yr 11 when I did it, I went to a centre for disabled people as well, and we just helped 'em out and got to know 'em. We had lots of fun - we played a game of footy with some of the mentally disabled children, and we even played some wheelchair hockey with those physically disabled : ) And I think you'll find they're amazing people. Such a great outlook on life; it's amazing.

It was a wild affair involving a very sleepy breakfast of boiled eggs with a hand sprinkling of ground black pepper. I've had chili juice in my eyes and up my nose (I had an itch!). The black pepper pain eclipses anything chili can do. Give it a try

One time one of my idiot friends decided to use and empty contact solution bottle as a spitter. I wake up one groggy morning and shoot copenhagen juice right into my eye. Hurt a little...
