Masan, I think much of your post is a knee-jerk reaction to the current depression. Yes, the economy is grim, but it won't always be. Those 50" plasmas will become affordable again (and not all of us rely on credit to get those things). I see your point, I just don't think the economic problems will be eternal, though it will certainly change the way we look at credit (which is a good thing, if you ask me). Redundancy is terrible, you're right. I've been made redundant twice myself in the past, but because of my education, I've been able to find something else. I think more and more people are able to do that, these days, but I must admit that's complete guess-work on my part and I have nothing to back that up.

You're right that people end up in a lot of debt for going to university these days (I have an ass-full myself), but the fact that I even went is a massive shift in my family's history, as I was the first to do so. My grandad trained as a painter/decorator, my nanna as a sewing machine operator, and my mum worked in recruitment... if I had been born into my family 100 or even 50 years previously, it almost certainly wouldn't have happened. I'm a strong believer that the working classes (in the UK, can't speak for anywhere else) have more opportunities than they ever have before.

We agree on something though - if we can put a man on the moon, we can do anything! (cue Michael Jackson song about how great planet Earth is and how we should all gather round and maybe touch a couple of kids)

I picked heaven, which is a little funny since I'm not sure I even believe in it. But I don't believe in immortality either, so that's not the point. The way I see it, you get immortality either way. With one choice, you get immortality spent in paradise. The other, you get immortality spent on this planet with people like Paris Hilton and Ann Coulture. I'm going with paradise, if I get to choose and both choices are equally able to actually happen.

I'd go with immortality for the sole reason that I want to be able to decide myself what to do. In heaven I would ultimately be subject to the wishes of God or any of his sub-contractors (read angels) and that doesn't really sound as happiness to me. I want to be able to be unhappy as well as happy and hopefully I would live to see the age of true space exploration.

easy choice, Immortality, then I would have the chance to explore the universe and looking first hand at all its wonders and also see how it ends! is it a cold death or a big crunch or maybe something else? but it would be nice to have someone else with you on the ride, would get terrible lonely otherwise and you would probably go insane.

I would take immortality if it was a given that I would cease to age. I'm not afraid to die, I just don't particularly want to since once dead I'll miss out on the future.

Late reply to discussion, but I must go with immortality. Ever since reading Tuck Everlasting, I think I would rather watch the world pass by and be a historian who was actually there. Plus, it would be fun trying to fool everyone about how old you really are...

i always found jim jeffries funny when he talked about heaven and how he always hated family gatherings when growing up and the uncomfortable awkwardness of having to put up with all these people you sometimes dont like just acause your related to them. imagine that everyone was immortal and you had to deal with that shit forever... no thank you.
