You're right that people end up in a lot of debt for going to university these days (I have an ass-full myself), but the fact that I even went is a massive shift in my family's history, as I was the first to do so. My grandad trained as a painter/decorator, my nanna as a sewing machine operator, and my mum worked in recruitment... if I had been born into my family 100 or even 50 years previously, it almost certainly wouldn't have happened. I'm a strong believer that the working classes (in the UK, can't speak for anywhere else) have more opportunities than they ever have before.
We agree on something though - if we can put a man on the moon, we can do anything! (cue Michael Jackson song about how great planet Earth is and how we should all gather round and maybe touch a couple of kids)
