I love birds of prey. Such majestic creatures. Was lucky enough to get to photograph a bald eagle at a camera training workshop a couple of months ago. Now that's a big bird!! to feel the power of the wing strokes as it came in to land was amazing.

That's a beautiful shot! Tiste Sim got to hold our adult golden eagle when he came to visit, Shadow. Also rather large! large enough I don't handle them - I could pick them up, but ten pounds of bird on the end of my arm gets to be a bit much rather quickly. There are disadvantages to being 5'3" and about 9 stone wet through - they usually don't involve eagles though!

TRB, if you ever get the chance to come to Scotland, I highly recommend going to Blair Drummond Safari Park. They do bird shows 4/5 times throughout the day with a variety of birdes showcasing some of their best features and also educating the public.

The best parts are their 2 vultures (cant remember what breeds but one of them is massive), their Peregrine (called Sonic) where they showcase his speed using the training leash (think that's what its called, the thing they spin around) and my favourite is their SEA EAGLE!!! which they have just recently started to fly and when they do they have to walk to the other side of the loch to be able to properly showcase the size and strength and buy god she is a beaut. She is absolutely massive and you can see the power and the intellect when she is just sitting still. I believe that she is the only Sea Eagle in the UK that is used in shows too and as you will may know they are a native to our lands and it is good to see their population on the increase.

It's a lure, for the peregrine. We've got a young one called Apollo who flies to a lure too - I will never, ever get tired of watching falcons fly.

I was given the RSPB book of British birds of prey for my birthday, and there's a lovely section on the White Tailed Sea Eagle - it's lovely to have them back, they were yet another species driven to extinction

Funny you should mention the White Tailed Sea Eagle, because where I'm working at the moment we have three of them (the male only just arrived) who are part of the European breeding programme so that their offspring can be re-introduced to the wild. In fact, at least 2 of the female's previous offspring (that I know of) have been released into the wild here in Ireland, which is a tremendous vindication of the breeding programme. Still a long way to go sadly. But hopefully the new male arrival will do his job

It would appear i'm recovering from the cold now. Which is good, because the past 3 days at work have been low-energy nightmare.

Absolutely loving jiu-jitsu. I only get to go once or twice a week, but it's so much fun. It reminds me of all the things I liked about wrestling without the stress and pressure that made it hard to bear sometimes. I'm terrible at it, but that's ok. I'm getting better. The gym I go to doesn't allow live sparring until you have learned the absolute basics, so that's my only goal at this point.

There's a place near me that opened recently. You buy a 2L bottle and have it filled with your chosen kind of beer. When you drink it you return for a refill of whichever one you want. It's really awesome, cheaper than buying bottles, and I feel strangely environmental.
