I think the dice may be like the deck of dragons. Its not excactly magic just an affinity of some kind with something.

How magics work in Wu has alwasy been a bit vague.

@eekwibble - 1) yes, we know that already, but that doesn't tell us anything about where Initiaties stand versus the 'ranked' Seguleh like the 1st, Mok, and the 13th Karsa beat, unless you are in possession of some knowledge SE has not yet included in the books about just how many levels of initiates there are and how many rankings. And put that hand away until you wash it.

Much chucklage!

No it doesn't tell us anything aboot that but that wasn't what was said.
I just responded to the claim that we don't know what level Senu was at. The fact that we don't know where his 11th level Initiate status fits in with the rest is an entirely appropriate assertion to the conversation and if I'd been appraised of that intimation I'd have... stabbed myself in the face!!!

NO-one cares!

The 1st knows!

That's all that matters!

He sent the 3 brothers because he felt they could do the job, not because they were a bunch of dumb-fucks who would get chopped up.

He didn't plan on Envy, Tool, Baljaag, Garath and Toc attracting major attention. It was supposed to be an 'in-fuckupthebadguygetoutifyoucan-job'.

Anyway,

hmm
thinking of those 3
I got the impressin that Studlock was hiding HIhis mask under all those bandages
As for why they were renegades--I do believe there was some link to the Revenants of One-Eye Cat, A company dedicated to Hood and all. And this brings up another point--we REALLY (as of TTH at least and if there's more on this in RotCG, DON'T YOU DARE SPOILER US!!!!), know nothing about Seguleh's religion and their attitudes toward the Pantheon and all that. maybe the 3 exiles became renegades because they've accepted a divine patron or something?

That's an interesting thought. It's also possible Madrun and Door's flamboyant outfits were forms of mask as well, in a very general sense.

Torvald's comment is a bit ambiguous. Studlock never touches a sword that we see, so i'm still wondering whether he's actually a Seguleh. Madrun and Door i have no doubt.

I suppose the point is that once you're on the outs from a relatively conservative martial culture, hey, go the extreme other way!

Anyway,

Wasn't it said somewhere that the first might have underestimated the Pannions when he sent out the punitive army? I have no idea what I'm basing this on but I'm sure it was mentioned. When Toc said something along the lines of "You guys can all do this shit! I'm gonna get killed if I hang out with you any longer! Peace!" I got the sense that, while the seguleh could hold their own enough to survive the hot spots, it was Envy who was dishing out the real distruction here. Everyone else was just badass enough to hang out with her and hold off the guys that got close enough

Well I think that Envy and Tool was the real problem for the Pannions, yes. Pannion himself was only distracted because of the First Sword of his avowed enemies advancing in him, along with an extremely powerful sorceress who kept pulling apart whatever he threw at them. The Segulah just provided more strength in numbers.

Is Mok, Senu and Turule's mission referenced in RotCG?

WRT RotCG and the Seguleh, there is a fair bit explained about them:

Spoiler

I believe that the 3 renegade seguleh abandoned their island and their excentricities in dress are their rebellion from the original Seguleh. I also believe they will play some part in the Tyrant, as the Seguleha dn the T'orrud Cabal are linked to this Tyant (as Shield Anvil and Destraint translations I believe??).

Yes, but note that as of the end of the book they still hadn't. There was never any hint of these threee being hunted by the Seguleh nation, was there?

Not quite. In one of his visions Toc speculates that the Seguleh are guarding Envy so that she can do her thing, and even then she's at risk of arrows and such. Baaljaag and Garath just rage around in general havok but they would not exactly have been effective at guarding her flanks and Tool alone wouldn't have been enough.

I have heard lots of mention of Studious Lock commanding the revenants, but I do not beleive this to be the case. When Sweetest Sufferance was talking to Faint about the Revenants, she does mention that they were led by an outlawed Seguleh, but also that they were "Taken" by Hood to serve him in the realm of the Dead.
As far as I can tell, Studious is not in the realm of the Dead. The Second is However. My Guess is that the Second was Outlawed due to his Patronage from Hood, and Studlock, Madrun and Lazaan were outlawed for some other reason we have not discovered yet.

These 3 seem to me to be more of a Seguleh "A-Team". If you need a Fist ousted, and If you can find them, Maybe you can hire.........The S Team.

Madrun (Huge guy with Gaudy clothes) = B.A.
Studious (Leader, in disguise all the time) = Hannibal

;)

Well there's evidence against the Revenants being lead by either the Seg2nd or Stud-and-co. The evidence against the Seg2nd is that he seems to have been dead for centuries of not millenia, recalling the Seguleh being the army of the Tyrant and not knowing of their move to Morn, while the Revenants were in Sweetest Sufferance's grandfather's prime time, so about 75ish years prior to TtH. The Tyrant has been gone much much longer than that, and there is no mention of the Revenant leader being undead so it's unlikely the Seg2nd died long ago and was commanding them as undead.

Likewise, Studlock seems perhaps too young to be their leader, and as you point out he wasn't taken by Hood.

You're discounting the possibility that, for whatever reason, Hood didn't want Studlock, but did want the rest of the troop.

And i could be wrong, but i don't think it actually says Stud led the revenants, only that he was a member.

I don't think it even says that... besides he's too young. And there's mention of only 1 Seguleh leading the Revenants, not 3 and what about that collapsing mountain? None of this adds up at all!

Gotta agree with you D'rek. Nothing adds up at all.
The reason I think the second led the revenants, is that the only mention of other Seguleh in the battle within Dragnipur, is of the Seguleh that fell to Rake.
If he is the Revenant commander though, why is there no mention of the revenants in the Dragnipur battle?

Because the Revenants are in another castle magic sword battle! I agree with you here, the human members of the Revenants aren't even mentioned so stands to reason that they and their renegade Seguleh commander have already been used elsewhere or just aren't there and therefore the Seg2nd being there means he is not their commander.

The only way I think could be justified for Seg2nd being the Revenants commander beyond that would be if he was sent by Hood to command the Revenants after he died and was already a servant of Hood before that...
