Madrun Badrun, Lazan Door and Studious Lock...

SO MUCH hinted at with these three and not much revealed. Torvald is our only source of information, and from him, all i can recall is:

Madrun and Door were outlaw Seguleh who had masks at some point and lost them, likely under a mountain in a conflict with Brood. Also, they have future predicting dice and are not very good at evading sorcery :D .

Studlock was some sort of horrible criminal. And fake doctor.

Did i miss anything more?

- Abyss, ...outlaw seguleh.... hmmm.....

What I thought hapened was that Madrun and Door were chasing some Fist and his troops into a mountain at the same time Brood brought down the hammer against Kruppe in MoI.
Thats when the mountain collapsed (aftershocks i guess)

Yeah I know.

Only Studious Lock is still alive anyway. Anyone disappointed that the other two didn't do anything but throw dice and then die when the assassins attacked? Scorch & Leff pull through but the infamous ex-Seguleh don't?

They didn't die - they were taken out by an Assassin mage, but last we 'see' them they are being tended to by Lock an expected to survive if he doesn't kill them.

As an aside, Scorch & Leff turned out great - the brief fight against the assassins was cool but the crossbow scene with the Hound is priceless.

And here I thought that their backstory was something i had forgotten from a previous book. I need to give myself credit, a lot of the stuff I felt stupid for missing either was actually confusing on purpose, or are things that just were neever explained.

The Second would sort of also be a logical contender for that.

I thought it wasn't clear that Lock was also an outlaw Seguleh. The ref seemed to be only to Madrun and Door, tho it was vague.

Anyone else think Studlock was Seguleh?

I'm pretty sure Torvald referred to all three of them as renegade Seguleh. Now I want to know what a Seguleh has to do to get exiled.

i think all they did was leave. and in Seguleh society if you leave you cannot return so they are exiled

The odd part is that while descriptions of Thurule, Senu and Mok and even the female
13th in TB all have them as similar - slim, athletic, two swords, etc, Madrun is described as short and heavily muscled while Door is tall and lanky and tattoed, while Lock is mummy wrapped. When the attack happens Madrun and Door both use the two swords tho, but Lock seems to be a pharmacistépoisoner if anything.

So either Seguleh society is less uniform than it seemed, or there is a good reason why these two/three are particularly unusual.

- Abyss, would have liked to read the description of those masks...

Cant believe I forgot about the second. I kew their was a reason I never liked stud for that post but could not remeber why. Still who knows maybe...

Well those three were definatly unusual seguleh. We can tell about stud as he was mummy wrapped but the other two did not want to make new masks. Interestingly though Stud insited they do so. Even exiled it seems they cant escape what they are. It appears to be more tricky than we realise.

Am still waiting for the seguleh whose wearing an ottoteral mask

And I think that's exactly the point, too; in MOI, Envy explains to her three Mok et al that Seguleh swordsmanship is no match for magic. Something like "magic would just blow you up, and there's no fun or honor in that." Seguleh are supposed to get pwn'd by sorcery, I think.
