Um, did this happen in RG? I remember him dying, but not coming back as a ghost...

Probably refers to when Hood takes Toc to see his dad, Toc the Elder

I finished RG!

Brys gets promoted due to cheating death.
Karsa would get promoted, except he's already number one Wu character.
Trull gets a little promotion for his tragic death.
Onrack and Kilava make the list, the former for having enough balls to love a panther-lady, and the latter for being a panther-lady.
Redmask gets demoted somewhat due to pathetic death.
Kilmandaros gets demoted due to rather sad current state.

I'm appalled at the list, how is Whiskeyjack not badass? he's 2nd only to Dassem in his martial prowess, if he wasn't injured he woulda killed kallor on the spot!

also #1 badass is Ganoes Paran, don't care what anyone else says but you just don't fuck with mortals!

You are equating martial prowess with badassary, which doesn't work. Martial Prowess may add to being badass, but the two are not the same thing.

We cannot say that Whiskeyjack is 2nd only to Dassem in martial prowess. All we know is that he used to spar agains Dassem, and that Dassem needed some time to get through his defence. Whiskeyjack is a competent swordman, but in no way near Dassem's level. Besides remember that Kallor did not want to kill Whiskeyjac, only get past him as fast as possible to kill off silverfox.

Where the fuck is Torvald Nom on this list?

...............................Epoch of Torvald Nom..............................

So, in summary, Torvald Nom is the most badass character in the series.

alllllLLLLRIGHT! So I'm a little late getting there! But I read this, and, after the paragraph about "The Urk's" fists (particulary "he punched a sky keep out of a mountain range to see how it worked, then punched it back in") I realized I was doubled over laughing uncontrollably. There were actually tears in my eyes. Now let me tell you: That has NEVER happened before. I rarely laugh out loud at things I read and when I do it's in a quiet sort of way. Also, I didn't bother reading the rest of this thread after that because my night is complete and I just can't be bothered to read forums at work any more (until tomorrow's shift atleast). I'd just like to let you know that that's the funniest thing I have read on the internet ever. And I've read funny before. Congradulations. hahah.

Also, just to move the thread forward, Fiddler is way more badass than he's given credit for. He's the ultimate pissed off father figure. And there is nothing manlier, and therefor badass, than a pissed off dad. Plus.. he made the DRUM, man!

Oh and last thing! and probably the most important thing. Out of the "refferenced non malazan" people, John Henry should be right at the top, above EVERYONE. It's John fucking Henry. Dude smashed a metal spike through some cement! If that's not the most badass thing I've ever heard then I don't know what is.

Illuyankas, I didn't fancy the profanity, but when you said "Respect Knuckles," I had to saving throw vs chuckle there. :pizza:

I agree, with an advocate like Illuyankas, Torvald should be #1.

I'd like to make a case for Masan Galani. Agreed, she's only a minor character, but let's do a quickie comparison to Karsa Orlong:

Karsa: attacked by two Deragoth, himself armed with his flint sword, armored, and riding Havok. Kills both.

Masan: attacked by five (5) Dejim Nebrahls. Herself naked and armed with a knife. Kills one, cripples another, and survives. Okay, Dejim was a pussy, but that's pretty impressive for a mere mortal.

I've only read through BH, so I don't know if she improves her record later. But she still deserves an honorable mention, don't you think?

Nebral . . . What was the point of hyping him if he was finished midway of the book? Yes, these superpower entities can be taken on my even a Pust mage. Yes, expect the unexpected from Erikson, but that only made him a waste of time.

Dejim Nebrahl was almost definatly there to give us understanding of the First Empire and the Beast Ritual, and seperate Iccy from Mappo. Naught else. He had accomplished his two objectives and thus got eaten by doggies. It's a very SE style of doing things.

If Dejim hadn't been so hyped, then releasing the deragoth to take him out would have seemed ridiculously over-extreme, but we needed a way to get them into the story somehow, right?! And besides, Dejim had potential - if he had found a real city and gone around eating civilians until there was hundreds of him, then the whole continent would've been pretty damn screwed...

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

Gruntle, specifically when filling an entire household with blood, gore, guts and bodies..floor by floor.

That was pretty good.

Rake, to me is still the ultimate badass.

What about Whiskeyjacks squad? Hedge, Mallet, Blend, Picker, Trotts, Antsy and so forth. Collectively, pretty badass. Duiker the historian also deserves a nod.

Antsy Picker and Blend weren't in Jack's squad, duders.

Jack's was:

WJ - Sergeant
Kalam - Corporal
Quick - Squad Mage
Mallet - Healer
Trotts - Fighter
Hedge - Sapper
Fiddler - Sapper

Antsy's had antsy as sergeant and picker as corporal and then they had blend and i think detoran and spindle and some other dudes maybe. Bluepearl? I can't remember.

Karsa. What an idiot. I dislike him. A lot.

That is all.
