It would need to be someone gaunt, and leathery. Someone whose face inspires fear into the masses. That natural arrogance and evil glowing from the skin.

I know someone who will be PERFECT:

It might be awhile to they make another movie because Eriksons would be on such a scale that it would cost TWICE as much as LOTR and the producers were a little hasty even after the success to take up another fantasy series!! Maybe some actors will come along in five yaers time that will fit the bill... or the could just use Matt Damon (ha,ha)...just kidding.

I think Hugh Laurie would do a great Shadowthrone.

Chuck Norris!

The sensei in Kung Fu: The Legend Continues is David Carradine. He's also "Bill" in Kill Bill.

I didn't read this entire thread so dunno if anybody has brought this guy up. But everytime I am reading something about Kallors character I always flash to that actor that played Longshanks in the movie Braveheart. Tall, cold demeanor, smart, older but still brutal and ruthless.

I hate seeing the same predictable, well-known faces playing characters from books.
Authors spend ages writing new, different characters, and the movie industry just 'replaces' them in films with whoever happens to be popular at the time, or someone who's played a similar role before, because they don't think anyone will go if there's not a 'big' name.
Most of the best casting happens when the not-so-well-known, but still good (or very good but unrecognised) actors are used - Viggo as Aragorn was great, and he was 2nd choice.
So true, but it goes further than popularity, the problem is the hollywood version of "acting" in which an actor is essentially required to play themselves in any role. Think of the last time Morgan Freeman didn't play Morgan Freeman in any movie he's been in. They don't think "who can play this character" they think "which actor would be best to replace this role with"

Anyone could play Shadowthrone really. you'll never need to show his facial features, perhaps the bottom part of his face maybe, but that's it. He could be entirely animated and you wouldn't know.

No don't agree. You need someone tall, gaunt and old looking with grey hair.
Clint Eastwood would be better suited to play him. Unforgiven Clint Eastwood anyway.

My thought exactly.

Christopher Lee? I think so.

Didn't Peter O'Toole die? LOL, I'm pretty sure he passed away in his last movie and they just used guidewires to complete the film.

Nah, he's still living. :D

The character that had me most intrigued about who could actually portrait him and pull it off is Tehol Beddict. I thought of Johnny Depp "Pirates of the Caribbean" style but not drunk. Although, if you want someone closer to middle-aged Dustin Hoffman would be awesome.

I always thought of Quick Ben as the brotha from CSI: Las Vegas. Can't remember his name. He's got that determination in there though not as bad-ass.

And I still can't find a suitable actor for Paran.

Whiskeyjack is totally Bruce Willis, though it'd be the MOST challenging role of his entire carrier!!! :D

And without question Fiddler is Wentworth Miller from Prison Break, but when he's older...let's say ten years.

A short-haired Helen Hunt would be a great Tavore.

And I totally agree with zwitterion who said above that the Hollywood acting is based on an actor's character and not his role's character. So, nobody could actually be as we know them in the books. But it's nice having thoughts about it...

Also, if you think about it it'd be awesome to do it international. What I mean is imagine Hindu spoken instead of Tiste Andii, Chinese for T'lan Imass, English for Malazan, Arabic for the Raraku people and so on... But it's impossible to pull it off so it's just my romantic thought of doing justice to the depth of SE's world
- Tak, you're a genious!
Fiddler - Reaper's Gale - Soldier of High House Life
Tak - Contraptionist of High House Invention!!!

yeah man, the malazan series is one that really couldnt de done justice in any typical hollywood way... i really hope that it never sees the light of the silver screen.

in other news, in the situation that they do make a movie about MBotF, tehol beddict should be jeff bridges. the dude from the big lebowski. bullseye.
There's a fine line between genius and insanity. I have erased this line.

Yeah...thats a really good one. He is one hell of an actor too.

I like this guy too because he does the cold and brutal thing so well. And he is gaunt as hell.
