what's all this talk about "destiny?" I doubt SE is the kind of guy that looks at one of his characters and says "your point in the story is to help kill THIS guy" Often I'll THINK that someone is going to wind up killing someone else or playing a certain part in a huge event because it would be poetic that way but that rarely happens in this series. Just because Crockus went back to Darujhistan to help it out doesn't mean that he was solidified in playing that part. He left before the tyrant even showed up, and that, to me, is very Erikson. I'm sure he'll be back in Lether or something, his ship being blown way off course or whatever. He's too much of a main character for his exit from the series to be like how it was.

To be honest I do not really see him and Apsalar getting back together. I mean...they are too much alike. They both share being used by gods, both have a serious dual personality glitch complete with name changing (albeit for a while), they both have a love/hate relationship with sharp, pointy objects, both have night jobs....I mean if one adds sleeping time, when would they get quality time together? Anyone else think this is starting to sound too much like an episode of Sex and the City? Oh....and Nom was not exactly jumping Cutter was he? Thus he was not expecting a backlash so if they went toe to toe with a clean start things would probably be very different. Oh, and if Apsalar ends up with Paran don't forget I told you so.

Apsalar and Paran??? Isn't Paran more into the big women, ie Tattersail, and besides, I don't think Apsalar is going to move on from Cutter. There was a great line in tBH "You broke him, and you broke yourself." She's gonna go find Cutter. :)

I know this is the MboTF we're talking about...but that sentence cracked me up.

I reckon Apsalar will forget about men and concentrate on doing stuff for Cotillion or someone.

It has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the most powerful force on Wu is a bunch of messed-up Malazans with Moranth munitions.

cutter/crokus was waaaaaay better in TTH than he was in earlier installments

He had way more personality, he banged challice finally, he took out the most hated villain in the book...what more could you ask?

He's still in hearts with Apsalar obviously and there will be some meeting between them in the future, though it will undoubtedly end with one of them killing the other knowing SE's plotlines. Maybe he'll find her but it will be too late to save her or something and we'll get a big NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO scene.

Regarding the brutal, pathetic, needless and poignant suicide of Challice:

It seems like a corporeal Hood strolling through the neighborhood had a distinct effect of, well, killing people... in all sorts of ways, like odd coincidences involving canes up the butt.

Maybe she had a melodramatic flare, which would include some suicidal (and tragically romantic) tendencies, but the presence of Hood, a couple blocks away (well what was left of the dude) could have been the real "push" that she needed.

A different night, she'd probably just get drunk,,,,

Didn't she kill herself before Hood showed up?

I seem to recall most of the bad or nasty people got killed or died... so perhaps Hood came to redress the balance. Redress-now that's something Hood likes.

Hood likes his balance.
Thank god Bidithal got some of that fiery demon balance. Now, he was a despicable character.
Interesting how Cutter has never really met any of the serious evil-doers, isn't it? Other than the Unbound.
