Anyone check out Blade Runner: Black Lotus? Looks like episodes 1 & 2 dropped on Adult Swim over night. I'm going to have to look for them when they re-air. The critics response to it early on didn't give me much enthusiasm to check it out, tbh. I guess the animation style is pretty rough and was compared to 90s/aughts video game level of quality. But maybe they were unfinished at the time?

For the last day of my Hulu trial I binged Normal People---haven't read the book yet. Seems to be a bit of a cultural touchstone (or not?) so I felt like I should at least watch the tv version.

Any great writing in it didn't make it into the show. First episode had some mildly entertaining moments, but after that it morphs into... Boring People. Dialogue was not outstanding. IDK, maybe the author's prose carries the book, or perhaps there's a huge amount of introspection that the show tried to convey with body language or something. I'd probably have found it less boring if they'd discussed what they were studying more---perhaps it was dumbed down for tv?

I really liked Foundation. It surprised me as the reviews seem to have been kind of lukewarm. I would fully recommend it.

I wanna watch Foundation soon.

I'm new to Apple TV and just binged Mythic Quest as my first thing, and really liked it. A little Silicon Valley DNA, some post-30 Rock absurdism, certainly some Always Sunny, but still mostly its own thing.

They came with white hands and left with red hands.

The live action Cowboy Bebop was really good. There's a couple of scenes that are absolute clunkers (Spike, Jet, and Faye in the diner being the worst one), but all in all, it really works. I think that the reminiscing parts of Spike's story didn't need the hazy filters that look like crap in live action.

The changes to the characters from the anime are good ones.

I think this improves greatly on the Altered Carbon dynamic of telling a story in a future dystopia by having likable characters. Here's hoping that season two isn't as butchered as Altered Carbon's was.

Going for foundation next.

Can recommend Arcane for anyone who enjoys animated action stuff, way way better than I expected any videogame adaptation to ever be. The animation and backgrounds are probably the most gorgeous I've ever seen.

Anyone watching WWII Battles in Color? The latest episode, "Kursk" description:

Quote

Kursk
July 1943. For six months, the German advance has stalled, but Hitler is convinced that his new generation of Nazi tanks will help put the Reich back on the path to European domination. His target: the Soviet town of Kursk. Through extraordinary archive footage—colorized for the first time—and first hand accounts by those who were there, we tell the story of the greatest tank battle the world has ever seen, featuring gargantuan German Tigers facing off against hundreds of Russian T-34 tanks.

Those German Tiger tanks were something to behold for that era of warfare.

This series is so fascinating. The prior episode description -

Quote

El Alamein
1942. Nazi Germany's Blitzkrieg enters Egypt. Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, a.k.a. the Desert Fox, has his eyes set on Cairo, but first he must overcome General Bernard Montgomery, the British Eighth Army, and the area's punishing fighting conditions. Though newly colorized footage and personal firsthand accounts, we enter the heart of the War in the Mediterranean, from German fighter aces dominating the skies to British battleships contesting the seas to the desert battle of El Alamein, which will ultimately decide the fate of North Africa.

Amazon apparently want to adapt Mass Effect. I know computer game adaptations are generally terrible but I'd still watch it. Cos it's Mass Effect!

Wife and I finished Locke and Key season 2.

It was just ok. It seemed like the old stunting character growth or them making stupid decisions just for plot reasons. And for the love of hell, stop being so cavalier with the friggin keys!

We got any duffers on the forum? Anyone watch "The Match" between Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka? The acrimony between these two has reached Greek tragedy proportions, although I think there's a good portion of exaggerated hype tossed in for social media purposes (it brings more casual viewers to golf). Oh my though! The shit talking kicked off from the start when DeChambeau handed out "Brooks Koepka cupcakes" to the gallery directly behind the first tee before teeing off. The pure look of "this guys is a bona fide douche nozzle" look on Koepka's face was television gold. Posted Image

I know Harry Potter is a toxic property these days but any you guys going to watch that quiz show that starts tonight? It's hosted by Helen Mirren. I don't know much about it other than the format is two teams going head to head answering Harry Potter trivia. I'll probably check it out eventually just to see what it's like.

Been picking off an episode here - an episode there of Curb Your Enthusiasm s10 (s11 is currently running). It's still pretty funny. The formula hasn't changed so it's more of the same (so neurotic, mean spirited, elderly Jewish Hollywood types getting in absurd situations, holding grudges and exacting petty revenge). J.B. Smoove as Leon is always funny.

Yes, the live action show is quite good. It's a different mood than the animated version.

There are about 3 really clunky scenes in it, but there's several great ones too. The changes to the characters make a ton of sense.

I said so upthread! It's SO much better than a show based on a video game has any right to be. Really hoping for a season 2.
