CARNIVAL ROW (Amazon Prime; Cara Delevingne and Orlando Bloom in a Victorian England that seems to include all manner of supernatural creatures #FairySecks) and THE DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE (should not have to explain this one) both drop on Friday, so will be checking both out this weekend! Glad I finished DARK in time to devote my TV time to two new shows.

The Boys on amazon prime is the best TV show this year. Nothing compares.

Watching The Boys---it has some great images, engaging plot, good acting. Granted, I've never read the comics, so it's all fresh for me.
Was thrown a little when someone referred to Butcher as British---thought his accent clearly sounds Australian in many places. Turns out the actor's from New Zealand and the character in the comics is supposed to be from East London. Doesn't sound much like Flight of the Conchords though (... and iirc they do a much more convincing Cockney accent, even though they're trying to be funny...). Otherwise excellent performance... at this point they should probably just change his backstory.

Edit: Could be intentional:
'In the show, there’s a chance to add another layer to the character, and this is where the bad accent (dubbed as Cockwi by many fans due to the actor’s natural New Zealand accent coming through) comes into play. It’s poking fun at the character, combining Urban’s natural accent and the supposed accent of the character. [...] Getting the character of Billy Butcher just right was important for the show. During the panel at NYCC 2018, Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg explained that the creator of the graphic novel, Garth Ennis, wanted to make sure the dialogue and accent was just right. He had a lot of criticism over some of the dialogue. [...] It would seem impossible that Urban’s accent on The Boys was a mistake'

He's the same actor from Arrow I think. Definitely Kiwi, and was thrown a little when they said British but it's not important at all, and doesn't damage the show in anyway.

The amount of people in here who don't know that Karl Urban is Éomer from LOTR, McCoy from the Star Trek Reboot films, and Judge fucking Dredd is astonishing.
Also, no, the actor from Arrow is Manu Bennet (who is both Kiwi and Maori).

Wow, even going on the IMDb they both look quite similar, and obviously have a similar accent, I was just guessing at Arrow but when you said the other programs I instantly recognised their character.

Va va voooom. Sexy Pope. And John Malkovich will be in the new season.
This boy has to go dab the sweat off his brow after watching that.

Was feeling down the other day, so I decided to start a re-watch of STAR TREK: TNG (since I grew up with this show, it's always been like comfort food for me), and it has not disappointed. I always skip S1 and 2 and begin with Season 3 since the first two seasons are largely dogshit...but otherwise this show just helps me feel normal when I'm feeling blue. It also helps me prepare for PICARD next year.

I just finished the looming tower. If even half of what the show portrays is based on reality a lot of people in the Cia, condolezal rice and rumsfeld belong in jail.
