Season 4 of the wire.
Spoiler
Season 4 is probably my favorite season of anything ever.
Season 5 (no spoilers but maybe hold off on reading this till you're done if you want to go in fresh) is still great overall, but there is one glaringly bad plot decision/storyline (potentially two, as some find the new element/characters a little too one-dimensional for this show, but I thought it worked, and I think the real world has born out just how 'one-dimensional' some powers that be in the industry can be). The bad storyline isn't even necessarily implausible either, it just doesn't really fit the specific characters of this show and seems like a huge leap. But anyway, much of the show is as solid as ever and the series finale is an all-timer.

Has been for ages. I watched it when it came out. I'm sure I wrote about it ...

We started Sons of Anarchy. A bit late to the motorcycle party. Two eps in and it's entertaining enough but it's not grabbing me. Will it?

I'm finishing up S5 (one episode left), and I agree. The major plotline is so out of character for its initiators that it doesn't just make them feel one-dimensional; it actively reverses any depth and character development that they had over previous seasons.
It being The Wire, it's still far better than most TV shows. Yet, when compared to S1-S4, it's shallow and unrealistic.

You mean Carnivale? I've been watching one episode a week. Love the music.
There's Carnival Row now too which I haven't started yet.

Binged What We Do in the Shadows (on Hulu now) -- the show is just as good as the movie. Matt Berry is a ringer to this type of thing, obv, but the whole cast is grand and Nandor is a new favorite character.

Got to two really solid eps in my ST: TNG re-watch, YESTERDAY'S ENTERPRISE, which is still a fantastic episode, easily top 5 of the entire series...and one that hit me harder than it did before, THE OFFSPRING. That's the one where Data creates Lal. Maybe it's because I'm a parent now, so I GET it...but when the Admiral who had been trying to take Lal for the whole episode and didn't believe that Data and Lal had the bond of a father and child tries to help him save her when she's malfunctioning because of being able to "feel"....there's that scene where he walks out of the lab and Troi, LaForge, and Wesley are standing there and he says "I'm afraid there was nothing else we could do. She doesn't have long left. We would fix one neural pathway and another would collapse." *pause* "His hands were moving faster than my eyes could see, trying to stay ahead of the breakdowns...but it wasn't enough." and there I am sitting on the goddamned bus glossy-eyed trying my damnedest not to cry. And it SEEMS (unless I missed the credit earlier) that this was Jonathan Frakes first directing gig...which is funny because Riker is off the page for the majority (which they mention at the top of the ep) except for one scene in which Lal unceremoniously kisses him in 10-Fwd.

Okay, this is/was a production decision and while I don't agree with it, it is this way for not story reasons but for behind the scenes ones (I can only assume they liked the cliffhanger?). You will have noticed that Season 1 only had 11 episodes, which is an odd number of episodes for a season...well it turns out that the denouement of the storyline you are talking about was going to be in the 12th ep, but they delayed it and shoved it into S2 as the first episode. Again, I assume this is because they liked the idea of the cliffhanger rather than resolve the S1 arc...I think it's an asinine idea and I'm bothered by it. But yes, this means that S1 will wrap up with S2 Episode 1, and the rest of S2 will be a brand new arc (I assume featuring Connor and Krypto; as well as Aqualad and more Donna Troy/Wonder Girl), which is why you don't see much Trigon in the S2 trailer.
Speculating, yah, i think they felt like the big scene they already had in the S1 finale...
Spoiler
... was sufficiently epic that rather than dilute that, they cliffhang and leave the hopefully bigger scene for the S2 premiere. Also, money. if they cut the finale and used the remainder for the premiere they would have more dollars to spend on S2.

The s1 finale became the s2 premiere which I understand wraps that storyline.
Raven... I don't think much of her comic character would have translated well to TV. I think they did a solid job of creating something that worked. Same for Starfire. If you're a source material purist I can see why you sont like.
Hawk n Dove... yeah, not the strongest part of the series.

For Kory I think it worked. Any issues is purely in how her design was transfered and I don't think it's possible to make her powers look good in live action.
I also loved what they did to Robin's character (and Jason todd, to a degree).
Ravens had many incarnations but she's never been a dumb petulant kid. Quite the opposite. I hated how a conversation goes from hey let's not go into this blind to, how can you tell me we can't do this.
As for hawk and dove, just found the whole love triangle thing annoying and unnecessarily melo dramatic. This isn't a soap. I also in general didn't care for the character.
VERY encouraging S2 premiere review... https://wegotthiscov...eason-2-review/
Warning, some spoilers, albeit minor/sideways.
I didn't know the Jason Todd character was promoted to series regular along w Hawk n Dove. Good move i think. I enjoyed how he played off Nightwing.

I believe that part of this unrealistic storyline is that HBO actually ended the show after season three and it was a last minute pitch by the creators to get 4 and 5 (which they did by smashing a quarter of the planned 6 into 5 and leaving out the Latino stuff etc entirely).
But I also suspect that the writers just didn't care that much about keeping the characters true at that point.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Yes! I absolutely love this show, I was weak with laughter in every episode. Colin Robinson was a particular delight for me.
Also I occasionally just find myself shouting "bat!"

THE WATCH cast announced!
Beric Dondarrion is Sam Vimes!
The only casting yet to be announced are Nobby and Colon, and the Patrician. But so far so good.
I'm not sure I BUY Sybill as a skinny attractive women over a more matronly look she's described as in the books, but I get it, it's TV so they should be pretty.

Boom baby! 12 episodes.
I saw that one go up. We won't get a chance to get into it till tomorrow, but I'm looking fwd to another Tokyo-based one. I really enjoyed the BOYS & GIRLS IN THE CITY season. Don't get me wrong, it was fun to visit both Hawaii and Nagano (Well, Karuizawa really)...but embedded directly in the madness of Tokyo is such a great setting!
Love this show!
