Started watching Star Trek The Next Generation, mentioned it to my wife and she wants to watch it with me. So no more binge watching that, but the first episode was great.

In work, I have started watching Van Helsing. The first episode was very meh BUT episode two was great. I was feeling the volcano, the eruption, the cloud coming towards the window, the army officers looking puzzled and then chaos ensued with the outbreak of vampires/virus. Decent enough for me to comment on it.

Oh man, if you thought the first episode was great (It's ALMOST as widely derided in fandom as STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE), then you are in for a serious treat from S3-7.

It was quite long, but I didn't mind that at all. In fact, I have to watch it again as she wants to start from the beginning

Quite a few episodes into Van Helsing and I get why I cannot really like the show. Decisions.

So in one scene Vanessa (Van Helsing) gets stabbed in the hand and heals straight away. She wants to leave and go find her daughter. The guy, Axel, points a gun at her and says, "you are not going anywhere". So she gives in. Er, what the fuck is a gun going to do. For fuck sake.
Next scene, a vampire guy that bit Vanessa, crawls out of the shaft they threw his dead body down and is now human. They have a vampire locked up. Who is a doctor. Makes sense to just try out her blood to see if it changes her. No, that doesn't happen. Even though Axel has been feeding the doctor vampire blood for 3 years, it doesn't cross his mind. It takes a while, and by the time it comes to pass, Vanessa is the one who bites the doctor vampire. Obvz, you have to watch it to see how disgruntling bad story is/script is because the show had promise.

That must be why it's bleeding ratings.

The Orville. Gave it 20 minutes. You'd have to like Star Trek?

Not for me. I guess you have to have watched Star Trek? I'm not a fan of parodies to be honest. Although scary movie was alright

It's a garbage show. They already are showing reruns. And the ship is the worst. From the back it looks like a female contraceptive device. Don't waste your time on it.

Or...watch and make your own mind up...not based on spurious, unfounded complaints.

My complaints may be unfounded, but they are in no way spurious!

I haven't seen the Orville and I'd just like to wade into the argument declaring my neutrality on the matter!

Having watched that helps for sure especially since people from that are involved in this. It’s not a parody at all though. It honors Trek but Ep 1 has been completely on a different lvl from 2-6. I would strongly recommend to get to ep3 before you give up. The show has amazed me. The story has been down right powerful in Ep 3-6.

Yes, much better from eps 3 onward. It still has some clunky humour, but for the most part when the humour is a brief part of the scene, more part of the dialogue of the scene - it works. When it seems like the scene is just a setup to a joke, it mostly falls flat. Except the 'Holodeck' sequence at the start of Ep 3 - that's funny as f**k.

Finally got around to watching the first episode of Ghosted. It was really bad (not Orville bad, mind you) but bad. Not watching anymore. Deleted from DVR.

Re-watching Lost with the old lady.

"The Constant" is still one of the best television episodes ever.

BK and Tsundoku's comments enticed me, so I started watching more of The Orville. It owes a lot to TNG and SG-1, except the humor is worse. If you enjoyed those shows, and want to recapture some of that vibe — give The Orville another chance. I'm enjoying it a lot more now that I'm past episodes 1 and 2.

The premise of If The Stars Should Appear is a cool one.

Yeah, you can really tell that Seth is just a die hard Star Trek fan doing a SOLID homage to TNG.
