Wow, great ep.

I gotta give kudos to Anna Torv. When this series first began, I was completely underwhelmed by her portrayal of Olivia. But she has really grown as an actress, to the point where she can credibly play two versions of the same character. :D

Cannot wait for the next episode.

And yeah, Seamus Wiles is totally Sam Weiss.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

And, this ep was even better than the last. It just keeps getting better and better.

I loved the "It's two suspects! It's one! No, it's really two!" bait-and-switch.

Having alt-Broyles' son be one of the victims of the Candyman was a wee bit too convenient, season-arc-wise, but it did lead to a great scene between him and Walternate.

And of course, the late-night-phone-call to Peter scene was brilliant.

Sooooooooo cannot wait two weeks for the next installment.

Agreed on all points. ratings seem shaky but if FRINGE goes down after this season it's going on on a seriously high note.
The entire cast is nailing it, the stories are great, the overarcing plot is totally interesting...

Just saw a press release that Fringe is moving to 9pm Fridays starting Jan. 28.

Not sure what I think about that. It's BSG's old time slot, they could do well there, but the show has bounced around the schedule quite a bit during its tenure and that usually doesn't bode well.

It better not end until John Noble gets to do a scenery-obliterating Walter vs. Walternate face-off.

EDIT - of course, Lost got shifted around the schedule a bit too, so maybe there's hope after all.

Could go either way but i'm pessimistic.

It's a numbers game - FRINGE on fri needs more viewers than FOX could get by say, a re-run of COPS. which is actually/sadly a lot harder than one might think. FRINGE has huge DVR/record/download digits but a minimal 'live' audience and the Friday shift is only going to swing those numbers further away from the all important (albeit antiquated, anachronistic and/or redundant) live ratings.

XFILES practically dominated Fridays for years but the tv audience has shifted a lot since then and Frinite is more of a wasteland.

I just hope that the whole season gets screened and that if its the end, they end it with a solid finale.

- Abyss, ...notes now might be a really really good time for Anna Torv to call Uncle Rupert...

It's actually looking not too bad. Executives have come out and said they don't plan to mess with Fringe and recently stated it's not going to Friday to die as they think the show is awesome and the next few episodes are fantastic.

When did executives say they thought Firefly was awesome?

Given how strong Fringe's ratings were through the first few seasons, I think it'll be safer than say, a Sarah Connor or a Dollhouse that never really had awesome viewership. But whether the execs have a long enough memory when the numbers start to tail off, I don't know.

ST
Don't look now, but I think there's something weird attached to the bottom of my posts.

My FIREFLY analogy runs from the fact that the show had a big following who were not watching the livecast, so without the archaic ratings digits, the show was turfed. High production costs didn't help. The massive sales of the DVD set showed that there was an audience, but it wasn't the live audience Fox wanted and iirc Fox didn't own the show so its profit cut from DVD was minimal as well. There were problems with the way the show was done and written, but even so Fox didn't play that right.

FRINGE has a huge notlive audience, it's not owned by Fox, and has high production costs. That said, if most of the Thursnite live audience follows it to Frinite, it might be ok. And of course Fringe is three seasons in - one more and we're in sydicationville.

Relatedly, LAST NIGHT'S (dec 2) EP WAS AWESOME. I really liked how they switched between worlds, how Olivia got herself out of trouble (mostly), how Peter spotted the shifter, and how I have to use the word 'vagenda' at least once a day from now on.

Nice bit of subtlely: Looked like they cut off parts of alt.Broyles so his weight matched Fauxlivia for the transfer.

I was half expecting Olivia to go all Firestarter on the lab but the alt.Broyles thing was nicely played, if obvious.

And i still say Walternate is behind all the troubles in altworld.

I kinda hope that's not true. It robs Walter of his tragic dimension.

nah, it redeems him. Walter was messed up long before he discovered it was all supposedly his fault. Now he is accepting that everything bad is all his fault, but i'm betting Walternate is secretly using Walter to cover up his own vagenda until one day everyone realizes hey! it's HIS fault!!!! and then Faulivia shoots him in the head and Charlie barfs up some worms and they all live happily ever after except for the bad air and quarantines and stuff and except for alter Broyles who is dead.

OK, but then what is Walternate's vagenda?

[side note: that ep not only wins for vagenda, but for how he just drops it in there and nobody reacts. genius]

Because if it's not about destroying the Blue Universe to defend the Red Universe, what the hell is it? Have there been any hints?

No i think it's exactly about destroying the blue universe to save the red universe and redeem himself for putting it at risk in the first place. Or he's just a cold blooded secret vagenda working muthafucka.

i KNOW.
i was so hoping for her to deep-fry the lab notwithstanding the drugs but she seems to need cortetexiphan or something to do that.

The little differences between the Olivias are interesting... Fauxlivia didn't have the universe hopping power or the photographic memory - no doubt because of Walter and Billy's meddling. Walternate and Alt-broyles seemed to think Fauxlivia was a better shot than Olivia, but we've seen Olivia take out a shapeshifter thru the brain in a moving van so i don't know about that.

There may be a symmetry somewhere here... Olivia can generate power, Peter can... surpress it? control it...?

And i haven't seen an Observer in weeks? Has anyone spotted them?

I want Peter and Olivia to hook up now...

Olivia "Uhhhh what are you doing that for.."

Peter "Well I thought that since the other you liked that you would too...."

Olivia "Really, I doubt she liked that. It's just gross."

Peter "What do you mean, doesn't everyone bring radishes to bed.." (It's a family show :hulk: )

No I haven't seen him lately. But I am sure that he has been around.

Yeah, I have not really bothered to look for Observers, because I get so caught up in the action. I wonder if Observers will turn out to be the First People, or agents of the First People?

I keep starting each new ep thinking 'ok, keep an eye open for them' and then Walter does stuff and Olivia's in her underwear and Peter says something scathing and Astrid's hair defies physics and then something blows my mind and the ep is over...

In a year or two i need to do a complete series re-watch.

...and Fringe goes into winter hibernation.

Enjoyed last night's ep. Re-animator dude was creepy. That marionette ballet apparatus scene was ewwwwwwwwwwwww.

Sad that Olivia wants nothing to do with Peter now but the writers had to do that to keep the dynamic interesting. Once they get together for real it'll be honeymoon in Sharkjump City.

Again John Noble displays impeccable comic timing. "Do you think they replaced her with a robot?" Genius. And the expression on his face is so earnest as he delivers that line.

See you in January...
