Last alt ep with the cockroaches was awesome. And the NOlivia revelation... hoooo crap.
Last ep with the almost tear, not quite as awesome but it did have some nice moments, esp Walter and Broyles almost using the amber.
They're building to a hell of a finale around the Peter/Olivia/NOlivia situation.

Actually it's Fauxlivia, as in 'faux' being french for fake, but i like NOlivia better.
Tho i like Walternate more than Alter-Walter or W/Alter.

It annoys me greatly that they've just dropped the "Peter becomes a killing machine" plotline from the previous non-Altverse episode. Follow through with your plotlines, Fringe! I'm not a huge fan of the First People stuff, but the only thing worse than a storyline you don't enjoy is a pointless storyline you don't enjoy.
The Alt episodes are consistently awesome - I hope they keep going with them. I almost feel like we know they characters on that side better, despite only having known them for half the episodes of a season. I think the cameraderie just works better in that regard.

Just caught up with last week's episode, and agree with Abyss, in that I found it to be a bit underwhelming, though it was kind of cool how they linked the amber crystallization to one of the Pattern cases from the first season.
"But I saw you [Snake]…faced by Anomander [Mandy] himself. How did…"
"I escape? Well, I dazzled him with fancy words, edging ever closer, then used my ninja skills to strike like a cobra, knocking the sword [Spamnipur] away and drop-kicking him over the side before tumbling backwards, slaying another Piss'd Andii on the way."
Silence. Lots of silence. "Fine!" He shrugged and grinned, "Someone hit him in the face with a coin, and he cursed just long enough for me to get away." ~ Excerpt from Gardens of the Tea Spoon

Satisfying latest episode. About some of the underwhelming episodes: even the worst Fringe episode is better than most of the crap on TV so its still good.

Agreed, love the 1985 beep-beep-boop theme. Reminds me of being in high school writing a BASIC program to make music on the computer.
Really enjoyed the ep, nice to find out how Walternate discovered the Blue Universe. The bits where Olivia shifts between worlds were IMO very well directed. Also the interactions between Peter and Mrs. Bishop were good too.
Also enjoyed the sneaking in of another Red Lantern reference and all the 80s-era toys they showed.

Yah it was more than a little odd how they dropped in what should have been a bombshell of a revelation and then movd along like it never happened. Maybe Peter just ran out of shapeshifters.

AGreed, tho i think it's more in terms of a well executed setting - the Blueniverse is 'more' interesting because it's so fucked, but also because it's a reflection of the universe we know better.

Tho fairly low key it was a great ep in that respect, and explained a LOT of backstory in terms of why main universe Elizabeth started drinking, what drove Peter away from Walter, why Walter stopped experimenting on the kids and eventually had Bell lobotomize him, how Walternate found the other universe, some backstory re Olivia's stepdad (which we haven't seen since season 1 iirc)...
I'm still think we're going to find out the problems in the Blueniverse are due to Walternate's meddling, not Walter's.
Either way, the series continues strong. Audience digits are a bit sketchy since the schedule move so i'm hoping for at least a solid finish if not another season.

Just caught up on the latest eps, and I like what they're doing. the 80's style intro was a nice touch.
It'd be a sad thing if they cancelled FRINGE after moving it to fridays. I was hopeful after a FOX executive openly expressed his desire for it to be renewed a few weeks ago. The best case scenario would be to give them a definite numbers of episodes to finish the story rather than vaguely hoping it can continue indefinitely. The ideal scenario would be to finish this season, and then come back for a 4th and final season (Even a shortened one of 9-13 episodes. This gives the writers the chance to exactly plan out their conclusion and work towards it. And if they managed that, i am pretty sure the follow on revenues will be much improved as who really wants to buy or commit to watching a series that never got finished? Plus that number of episodes would just about get them into syndicated television numbers.
Anyway.
I had a random thought watching one of the alternate episodes a few weeks back. The one where the guy could predict people's deaths. I had this nagging feeling that what we could be seeing, is the gradual creation/origin of the OBSERVERS. We've also had a character who could (briefly) travel in time.
NOW FOR MY CRAZY THEORY
The machine that could destroy the other universe will be used by Peter, but instead of killing the other side, he'll somehow give a kingsize FUCK-YOU to the laws of physics, and shift the other side back in time, who will then become the first ones from the mysterious books.
So far we've seen the observers travel in time, predict the outcome of unfolding events, show impressive strength and who knows what other abilities.
So my theory is that we're going to get some variation of a time-travel causality story. Which if done properly would be awesome. But if done badly, becomes a tiresome deus ex machina.

They did do a nice job w the 80s nostalgia.
Anyone else spot the Observer at Bishop Dynamics?
The fact is the two universes (and any others out there - sci fi logic suggests these are just 'neighbours' - as an aside i expect that plot to show up in the future if the show survives and the conflict with the Blueniverse is resolved - bring o the Council of Walters!) co-existed forever until Walter and/or Walternate started messing about. Perhaps instead of killing one or the other, Peter will fix the breach, permanently separating them. Which raises the (huge, awkward) conflict of him choosing to stay w Olivia or Nolivia and their child.
But i like the time travel reset theory, especially if it explains the First People. we saw last ep that Sam the Bowling Guy has something to do with all that too.

Correction - Walternate lives in the Redniverse, not the Blueniverse.
Anyway, I think you're probably right about all the problems in Walternate's world. Walter only crossed into the Redniverse once, but Walternate has been sending shapeshifters and spies and Belly-knows-what-else into the Blueniverse for years. So yeah, the majority, if not all, of the damage to the Redniverse was probably caused by him.
I'm guessing Fauxlivia finds out and caps Walternate in a fit of other-dimensional pregnancy hormonal rage. Then somehow the baby is born and winds up in the Blueniverse to be raised by Peter and Olivia. Or something.
And the First People turn out to be Cylons. Yeah...
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

I think the First People will turn out to be the cause of the different universes existing. Back in Season 1 (iirc), Walter explains that parallel universes are not really parallel, they're branches off the same ever-expanding tree. So presumably there was a point in time where there was no Blueniverse or Redniverse, there was just one universe. Perhaps that is the time of the First People. Maybe the Observers too.
And perhaps, that split was a mistake. Maybe an accident caused by the weapon/device thingy. Perhaps Peter has to use the weapon/device/whatever not to destroy the two universes, but to merge them back together into one coherent, "healed" universe. And he was "weaponized" to eliminate all barriers to him doing that.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

My guess is the Observers are not First People themselves, but are servants/constructs of the First People that survived whatever accident/holocaust/plague wiped the First People out. They are waiting and watching through history to find The One (ie, Peter) who will heal the universes, or repair the breach between universes, or something along those lines.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

@Abyss - you sir have a good memory. I completely forgot about that kid.
Latest ep was interesting, few unseen twists and turns. Good to see Alan Ruck working again.
Ever since they showed that bell in Belly's office in the Redniverse WTC, I've been waiting for it to come into play. Good scene with Walter and Nina toward the end. I was a little off-put hearing Anna Torv try to effect Leonard Nimoy's speech pattern, so I hope they kinda tone that down.
Also, I'm putting the show on notice - if there's some sort of Peter/Olivia love scene with Belly intruding I am gonna have to switch off. Even I have limits.

Except for a couple of key plot points (laws of physics failing, Peter admits he gutted shapeshifters, Bellivia) I thought the no legs/no gravity ep was lame. No threat, little mystery and the bad guy was a big wuss with poor morals. The start was neat with the reversed perspective but the crooks were such wimps that there was just no sense of drama to them.
I'm hoping for better this week. with the ratings as edgy as they are the show really can't afford weak eps at this stage this close to the finale and decision time.

Having Bell back sideways does open a lot of possibilities for Walter, which is fine by me. Once Nimoy declined to stay involved in the series they were going to have to get around it somehow.
It occurs to me that we've seen an awful lot of 'pathetic yet brilliant sciencey-person does horrible things to help loved one' episodes and they tend to be the weakest.

From Ye Big TV Thread:
^^this. The Bellivia voice is like nails across a chalkboard to me. Really distracting.
The Bellivia/Astrid dynamic was fun to watch - apparently Belly was quite the Lothario in his day.
Glad they worked in Agent Lincoln, and the black van.
I was surprised somehow Bell didn't wind up in Caprica lady's body, or one of her victims. I kinda thought that's where they were going with it.
