watched ep 2.
I think joshua jackson's charactor is going to annoy the piss out of me. The "banter" character is just done to excess imo.
And the hot-or-notometer is absolutely baffled...still. I swung 100% not for one of the scenes in there, but then totally the other way a few scenes later. Graaagh!
I wich they'd just hired on Tricia Helfer or something. Then there would be no question.
Hopefully the main plot arc can save this show...not really digging it so far. I'll certainly give it the whole 1st season before deciding to keep with it.
Abrams is a guy who delivers though...considering how far the main plot arc in LOST has come since season 1, it might be well worth sticking with this regardless of individual episode quality.

the next 5 eps have changed my opinion of the show quite a bit now.
I'm surprised how much the main plot arc is touching individual moster-of-the-week stories too. Plus they insert that "observer" bald guy into every episode if you watch for him. I thought it was going to be more like X-files where they'd have a string of episodes with zero mention of the main arc...then have one or two mid season to keep you hooked, and then abandon the main arc until the season finales.
hot-or-not-o-meter still officially baffled by the lead character. Jesus she's a hard one to place. I think its because they go so light on her makeup. If they had her all tramped up every episode l think she'd be an easy placement in the hot category. As it stands she is classified as most "natural" women are, with a fluctuating score in the grey area.
I know nobody cares whether I think she's hot. Its just fun to muse about to random people on the net.
Really really not liking the broyles character. He went from being awesome in the wire to being a douchy wanker in Fringe. Not his acting so much, I just find the writing for his character is abyssmal. And the actor doesn't fit his role at all.

Wearing a lot of makeup at work as a female (or male - with cologne or actual mankup *cringe*) federal agent is a sure-fire way to shoot your career in the foot. With a cannon. So its just being realistic. Anna Torv is actually pretty hot though, not perfect, but hell.
I lurves this show. Only one I watch on tv anymore.

Just watched the 'steal your dreams' ep. This show is firing on all cylinders.
I like the more proactive role Peter/Jackson is taking this season - less keep my Dad out of trouble and more 'i am a horrible person and really need to do something halfway decent for a change'.
Olivia/Anna Torv, curiously, has not been in her underwear once yet this season. Am surpised - by last season this time she had already done the strip down brain wired thing three times or so (someone told me).
Walter/Noble... Walter still makes this show. What he did to the FBI agent from Washington... hee...
Is it just me or is it harder to spot Baldo this season?
- Abyss, may have seen him at a Subway during lunch today...

This show was strong until they threw in "douchy internal affairs douche with a personal agenda against Dunham". He's so painfully, painfully cliche....it hurts to watch him deliver lines.
I mean, its tough to get away from cliches in shows, but the other characters seem to pull it off ok. Walter for example, takes the nutty scientist cliche and at least makes it his own. Even dunham's fuck-up sister cliche character is done half decently.
Bleugh - he better meet with an untimely end or just plain fuck off soon. He's kind of ruining the show for me at the moment.
Also, the episode where the hand reaches out of the computer screen and liquefies brainz.....STOOPID!
sorry bout the negativity...I'm ridiculously tired this morning. Still liking the main arc, but the individual shows can be painful.

Actually, as much as i enjoy the show, i agree with your two points. hand-out-of-computer ep was one of the weakest, and cranky internal investigator guy is a tired sterotype.
But i like how Olivia, and Broyles, just take no crap from him from day 1... "you outrank me, you have power, you have authority, screw you i'm doing this thing anyways."
- Abyss, still wants Peter to kick him in the nads...

awww yeah.
Next 2 eps after reachy computer hand brainz smoothie maker episode were great.
Very much liked the one where they find the baldy kid underground beneath the building. Weird. I'm getting pretty stoked to find out what the hell those observer baldies are all about.
I liked the THERE ARE FOUR LIGHTS episode too where dunham has to pass test No. 1.
Very glad they killed the "Waaaaah john is inside my brain" subplot too. That was just getting dumb.

sweeet season ending. I like the pan-out on the WTC at the very end too. Stoked to check out season 2 now.
Very glad they ditched the "I'm going to get in your way in the most cliche way possible" asshole internal affairs guy, though the plot they used to get rid of him was a little contrived and stupid. No indication (or even hint) of him being a bad guy up to that point and then all of a sudden he's supervising a pyrokinesis experiment. Dumb.
Show continues to be hit and miss, the last 2 of season 1 being very "hit" Gotta get season 2 though. I'm definitely hooked on the main plot.

I actually found the last couple of eps of S1 to be weak - still entertaining, but weaker than the series up to then. Not bad tho' and the finish with William Bell was a nice touch tho.
Am enjoying season 2. Last weeks' ep SPOILER SPOILERS FRINGE SEASON 2 NOV 5 EP SPOILERS
SPOILERS
EVIL BODY DISSOLVING SPOILERS
FUCKING SPOILERS WITH ACID FUCK
YOU IN THE EAR
SPOILERS
...however, was a bit... meh, as many of the standalone eps (see also Scorpian Kid, Eaglegrizzlysnakemonster, Hedgehog monster virus) tend to be.
I understand the need for standalone eps once in a while, but i wish they didn't - occassionally - feel quite so much like reworked X-Files plots which were old Kolchak plots which were ganked from an old ep of Twilight Zone.
Did anyone else spot Baldo
- Abyss, ...am still a fan, still finds fringe to be one of my fave shows on tv now.

Though I still very much enjoy the show, I feel there's more "filler" now than in the previous season. I want more Nemoy and the apperance of you-murdered-my-son-so-I-will-destroy-you evil Walter from the alternate universe

I so want to see this, tho' i have a nasty suspicion we will, at best, get only a hint of Alter-Walter at the finale of this season, if they go there at all. Fringe does seem to (try to) go against the obvious when it comes to the overall plot arc.
But John Noble could completely pull this off and i would repeatedly watch an entire episode of nothing but Noble playing Walter and W/Alter sitting across a table from each other chewing scene like 1970s acid tab candy.
- Abyss, ...would buy a DVD set just for that one scene...

Is it just me or has the writing gotten poorer this season? I still get chills when I remember the first episode and that female investigator ("I think I've been waiting for you guys my whole life").

Ana Torv moved into the hot side of the meter for me last season and despite not being shown in her underoos once this season she has not moved off the meter. There's just something undefinable about her, not unlike Cate Blanchett.
The episode this week was an improvement. A little more humor with Walter and his milkshake obsession but a little more insight into Walter's interaction with the Observers. They give us just enough hints of the big picture to keep us going. I saw a recent interview with John Noble and he confirmed not only having shot scenes with Leonard Nimoy but the two of them going to the writers with more ideas. He also said we would be seeing the alternate Walter by the end of the season and he is not going to be very happy or very nice.
This show is working better for me than the other genre dramas. V is just flat-out stupid. I mean it is Heroes-level stupid and that is a level of idiocy no show should be proud of. Flash Forward is a waste of an interesting premise that moves at the speed of a soap opera and pretty much every character appears to as brain-dead as those on soaps. Dollhouse is intense but its days our numbered. SG:U has promise but that's about all it has. And none of them have their own cow.

Thats some definite has-taste-must-rep right there.
I just found out the last 2 episodes of this got overwritten on my DVR. Very unhappy. Might just have to reacquire the whole 2nd season and watch it before the new eps at the end of december.

Last week's ep with the observers was AWESOME.
A little trite at times (how many times in sf have we seen the 'look, there's a time-traveller in that painting from the 1200s!' thing), but it gave us some juicy goodness, some solid Walter, and some good action scenes. Liked!
I just died of joy. briefly.

...
I tend to agree, but i'm fairly patient with genre tv. I see the flaws in FFWD. it's hard not to when they form the basis for big ugly gaping plot points, but i'm curious enough to see where they go with it. it could use about 75% less soap opera drama and 200% more destiny vs choice mindfuck, shootouts and Dominic Monaghan.
V... the thing is, i've seen the entire original series(es) and its weaknesses are apparent, but there was still a basic alien invasion line that was fun to watch.
This time, they 'exposed' the aliens at least to the viewers, fairly early on. They added a nice touch or two with the history of the infilitration and the V's over PR campaign, it's just that not a thing has suprised me yet, four eps in. I'm patient (god knows, i've watched most of Dollhouse), but there are limits.
I haven't exactly given up on either show so much as stakced them in the 'ok, nothing else to watch, let's see a few eps now' pile, and its a short jump from there to deletion.
But with BSG gone i have a free timeslot, at least until LOST returns in Jan.
And i'm loving FRINGE, even tho i know betrayal by Jean is just inevitable.

The biggest weakness with V is that it isnt just a reimagining of an old (and far too Reagan-years for its own good) show, but that its a reimagining of an old show that was based on a miniseries which was based on yet another miniseries or close enough. Its like cloning. In twenty years when they decide to remake this series, its just going to be some guy drooling on the camera. Of course, by then the viewing public will look like the humans in Wall-E so no one will notice.
And surprises make the masses feel stupid, and they don't want to watch shows that make them feel bad. Saw an inkling with the painful murder of that sub-plot with the korean girl at the end of the pilot for BSG. And just about every single other TV drama that has ever been.
But fringe. last 2 eps were grrrrrrrrrrrrreat! now to wait around two weeks for a new episode...
