Really enjoyed the latest episode - it was just so full of WTF?!?! and WEIRD!!! moments that I was entranced. Plus, Dr. Bishop was excellent as always. And the ending...

just watched the pilot and was utterly unimpressed. The best character was the mad scientist, but I'll never forgive him for burning Faramir like that. the best lucid character was frickin Casey from Dawson's Creek ffs. The female lead was like the woman from that Canadian show about the deaf FBI agent, except she's uh...not deaf and therefore has less excuse to be so wooden. Terrible, imo. Absolutely terrible. Plus, it's JJ Abrams so you just know it's going to get worse. I'll be giving it a miss unless and until I can't get away from the positive feedback re: this show, in which case I'll buy the boxed set. The subject matter that they tease you with is certainly interesting in principle but I have no confidence that they'll deal with it in a manner that I will appreciate (or at all, given it's Abrams). 2/10

I do agree that the pilot was weak. But there's been a steady improvement. I won't cry if i miss an ep, but am finding it solid tv entertainment.
Abrams does tend to jump the shark but i hope he's learning. Alias started so-so, became great and ended amazingly awful. Lost started strong, got weak and then recovered.
And Noble was Walter is an absolute treat to watch.
- Abyss, wants a lab like that in his basement.

Back on Fringe, i realized something - the whole thing is about Mad Scientists. They called it 'Fringe' because 'Mad Scientists Do Fucked Up Crazy Shit to People Until The Good Guys Shoot Them' was too long.
There are certain conventions to the show...
- someone must die in gruesome fashion;
- everything ties back to something Walter did in the 70s;
- Olivia must chase at least one person;
- sooner or later, it all comes back to Massive Dynamics;
- Walter must forget Astrid's name ('Asterix!').
Speaking of Astrid, she gets my vote for 'supporting cast member most likely to die in season finale'. Relatedly, Charlie gets 'most likely to turn out to be a bad guy'. I'm also betting/hoping for a massive reveal of Peter as some kind of crazy criminal mastermind genius in his own right. All the hints are there... That said i notice every time Walter gets a new piece of equipment from MD, he doesn't return it... and Jean is looking pret-ty suspicious...
They're really doing a nice job with making each ep aproachable on its own too. Corrects a lot of the problems JJA ran into with LOST and ALIAS, altho since most of those problems arise in later seasons, there's still time for this to fubar.
That said, i'm still totally enjoying this show. The ep two weeks ago with the tracer pigeons was hysterically funny yet suspenseful, and this past week's ep with microwave brainz powerz was solid. And Walter positively chews up and flosses with the scene every time he's on screen.
It's currently my fave new show this season, probably the only new show i'm sticking with.

Yeah, but do you ever get the feeling that this show is going to turn into a new kind of X-files, what with the crazy Massive Dynamics robot lady, and the uber creepy bald headed watcher guy thats been around for years.... Just strikes me that the show does a pretty good job turning the plot into something that is possible, i.e. microwaved brainzzzzzz and will step across into more of the scientific impossible, i.e. plants coming to life and adapting pheromones that make people commit suicide.
~I hope that doesn't need spoiler tabs as I tried to keep it vague.

As a preliminary note, M. Knight Shamalamayananahey deserves for that movie to be spoiled at every possible instance to avoid people wasting lives, money and time on it. Let me be clear: THE HAPPENING is probably the worse thing to happen to Hollywood, film, and likely the collective intelligence of the human race since THE BACHELOR. Don't see it. Don't let others see it. Stomp disk copies into thin silver dust if you can. Fuck Shayalaman for that movie. Here's the twist: It's the plants. It's the fucking plants trying to teach the human race a lesson and there, now you know, save yourself the suffering. Go watch the SIXTH SENSE and UNBREAKABLE again and pretend he became a monk after than and never made any other movies. [/rant]
On topic, i hope, i pray, JJA and co have learned from what went wrong with the X-Files. of course, the Xfiles were already off the air when they gutted Alias and turned Lost inside itself, so we can only hope. They do try to have at least some tiny shred of reality in whatever crazy mad scientist antics they get into. XFiles rarely did.
I like Robot Lady and hope they don't go the obvious route with her. Bald dude is vague but the hints are interesting. I don't really need them to root everything firmly in reality, it just needs to work well.
- Abyss, ....seriously, fucking plants....

I like robolady as well, I cna just imagine a season 3 episode where she goes all Terminator on everyone and it will take an alien race of watchers to save the insane doc and co, who will then travel back in time and prevent the bomb from exploding causing cop ladies bf to semi die, thus nothing ever happened. Also, whats with the crazy halucinations, the one she had in the "baby reaches age 100 in minutes" ep? was relly cool, but was really a waste of time imo.

The Happening was good. Marky Mark's acting was bad, but beyond that, it was fine. NOt his best movies, but certainly not his worst. Better than Signs if nothing else. [/offtopic]

I enjoyed The Message much more than any of the other episodes, and really didn't like The Cure, mainly due to Olivia's sudden change in personality that bugged the hell out of me. I can take unusual coincidences and plotholes, I can't take character about faces like that.
Otherwise, I enjoy the ridiculous pseudoscience (Homing Pigeons! Exploding Brains! Elastic Optic Cords! It's got them all
), and Walter is gold. I still feel like they need to get the dialogue sorted out a little though - in that last episode it was painfully stilted and infodump-y.

staying off topic for a second
You have got to be kidding me. Abyss is right on the money when it comes to the happening. It's a film about murderous plants... plants for christ sake. Twenty minutes into the film you know what's going on but people stay stupid right up untill the end. Where is the suspense when it's people running from tree's and grass? And what the fuck is up with the wind. Do plants control the wind aswell? No, well then it's really fucking lucky that the wind keeps blowing towards the people all the time. Good thing it wasn't raining or anything.
What kind of a bullshit plot is "killer plants"? What's next? attack of the seamolecules? How about the angry ozonlayer? How on earth did a movie company let itself be talked into producing a film about people running from tree's? It's a C-movie with a ridiculous budget and real holywood actors. I would expect this kind of film to be a straight to DVD release I'd find on one of the bottom shelves in the darkest corner of the local Blockbuster. Not in the freaking cinema.
Screw you M Night Shamalalala, give me back the time i spent watching a ripped copy of this streamed illegally on the internet.
On a sidenote, I like Fringe all though it has nothing on the x-files. X-files is currently being rerun here in denmark and half the country is mezmerised.
Apt, there is no second X-files film, they only made one.

So they're only up to season four or so i'm thinking....
I do hope FRINGE stays off aliens. They don't need aliens. Aliens were XFiIles' driving plot point, all Area 51 and abductions and invasive anal probes and such... Fringe should stick to mad crazy scientists making people into weaponzied sentient microwave ovens and evil corporate cyborg retirees!

We'll have to continue the Happening discussion where appropriate, this is for Fringe. Suffice it to say that I stand by my statement. If you want more, we'll have to take it to the movie thread.
Fringe rocks. Astrid is a lesbian.

A dead lesbian... mark my words all she's missing is a red shirt.
That said I would love them to turn it around and have her revealed as an evil agent of the Pattern or something and set her up as Olivia's opposite nest season.

Also, don't trust Jean. She could tunr on them at ANY time.
On general principle, i take it as a given that at any point she can reach out and snap someone's neck with that arm. It may never happen, but it COULD happen.
- Abyss, ...bets she kills Astrid in the finale....

Am following this show myself, and am still not sure what to think of it
yeah it's nice, enough suspence in each ep to make me want to watch the next one, there are the hints at a larger conspiracy which are interesting, each show in itself is fun to watch, and I have to agree with Abyss here, Noble is a treat to watch
Also watching X-files again atm, only have seen those when they aired here on TV about 10 years back? They still do own this show in every way in comparison, but how far can you compare 8 eps to 9 seasons?
Also, The Happening will not be mentioned anywhere
