Anybody else into this hammy offshoot of a hammy sci fi series?

For some reason I can't stop watching. Rodney's pathetic attempts at manhood, Weir's pathetic attempts at fair and balanced leadership, Shepard's pathetic attempts at being a strong leader...

so pathetic in so many ways, but oddly entertaining and I love it. I've always had a soft spot for the "uncovering ancients' technology" type of sci-fi fantasy plots. Ever since Gummi bears.

I think I'll watch episode 3 when I get home.

EDIT: POST 800 jesus i waste a lot of time on this forum.

Yes... 800 posts... you're such a nerd, erhem...

They never showed SG: Atlantis here in Denmark. After about season 4 of the regular series it went off the air.

It's really not the best series in any sort of way but I admit it's entertaining. I'm thinking about catching up on Sidereel.

Being a huge SG-1 fan, I had to try this one out. Had a hard time getting into it though, and the first season is nowhere near SG-1 level, but it grew on me, and I really like it now. Really looking forward to next season.

And what does hammy mean? :o

hammy to me = overacting a bit, a lot of one-liners in the script, tongue-in-cheek humor inserted all the time.

By no means a bad thing, in the case of SG-1, I think it's the series' primary charm. Same goes for atlantis.

Season 4 is rocking by the way.

Hammy = a good thing then aye :o agree completely that that is one of the biggest charms of SG-1 and Atlantis.

Season 4 is awesome aye, the series has been great since halfway season 2 for me. First one is a bit meh, could be me though, watched that right after seeing a complete review of all 10 seasons SG-1 in about 2 months time :)

yeah, atlantis has definitely gotten better.

I like that Rodney is still the same incredibly arrogant genius he's always been, nearly no personal improvement. Fantastic.

and Zalenka is superb. some of the translations of his mutterings are hysterical.
meh. Link was dead :(

I love the show. It's just plain fun to watch.

I just purchased the first three seasons on DVD.

Having watched SG-1 in it's entirety over the last 3-4 weeks instead of studying, I'm going to get some work done before diving into Atlantis. A friend of mine who is really into the Stargate franchise has told me that the first series isn't so great, but that the quality dramatically improves from there. Anyone else agree?

Sir Thursday
Don't look now, but I think there's something weird attached to the bottom of my posts.

I liked the first one, but each season does really get better and season 4 gets darker and has a lot of new interesting things happen and new peoples to meet. I will always be a huge SG-1 fan, but Atlantis is catching up.

I like SG-1 and Atlantis is good in it's own way. If it wasn't for my hatred of Advertising on television ( Re- Lost, back in the days on channel 4) then i'd have caught up with wherever they are in the seasons. Right now I think I left it halfway through 3. I'll wait till I got some money then buy 3 on dvd and 4 whenever it comes out...or is it already out? hmmmm

SG-Atlantis does improve massively between season's 1 and 2, but SG-1's first few seasons are a bit iffy so I guess it was to be expected. (Lucky to be kept going given the current turn-over of shows). The internet is a wonderful way of keeping up with shows plus it means I get to put off uni work just that little bit longer.

yeah, first seasons IMO aren't usually all that great. No plot development obviously, actors still generating their characters to an extent, very little for the fans to speculate about, all the little things that make a show good just aren't around at the start.

Total agreement though. After season 1, Atlantis ramps up big time. Season 4 is totally great.

The SG franchise in general is a nice refresher from the startrek ship-centric scifi's that preceeded it. SG is just constant away missions, but without the lamewad transporter to save their ass every time they get in trouble.

Oh and the replicators are F.T.W. big time. I love them as badguys.

I hated the replicators. I mean, their the stupidest enemy ever. It's evil lego spiders. It makes no sense that they are made out of small blocks, some kind of gigantic nano machine squares or something and when you shoot one it disintegrates... what the hell?

Better if they had animated them as a kind of cloud of nano particles around a solid shape that held them together.

boo apt boo...

replicators are great. So sinister.

THey are supposed to be a human analog. Many small organisms working together for a greater purpose. They're just electromachines...so they get to communicate telepathically and shit.

Though i agree it's kinda lame that they disintegrate when they die.

I loved SG-1 up through season 8, Atlantis seems have captured the same spirit. Blow shit up, plenty of cheese, big story arcs, and focus that camera on both male and female characters butts. I swear, after all those seasons of SG-1, I know Amanda Tapping's buttocks better than her husband. And my wife could write an essay on Michael Shanks' body. Shepherd and his Star Trek/Star Wars references are almost as good as O'Neil's obsession with the Simpsons, and Rodney McKay is the perfect whiny IT genius we all know. Love it!

amen brotha

rodney is by far the best character on that show. I'm pretty fond of his sidekick eastern-european sounding guy....name escapes me...too.

worst characters for me ronin and teyla they could both die anytime and I would not care a bit.

Ronin is cool, kinda, just shoot when you don't understand a thing :o Teyla is pretty obnoxious aye.

I really hated Weir - she was just fucking annoying.

Eastern-european guy = Zalenka.

SG-1 and Atlantis are both TEH AWESOME.

I mustve spent such a huge collection of hours watching every single episode of both, most of them several times through. Anyone seen The Ark of Truth yet? I've seen up to 20mins from the end, need to see the rest baaadly!

I love Sheppard, he's so cool, And by Sheppard, I mean his hair. I want it.

I love Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis. I have been catching Lucy up on stargate cos he hadn't seen season 6 - 10 properly. We are up to season 10 now :D I have seen Ark of Truth, great fun!

@TT how can you not have seen the last 20 minutes?! Watch them! *glare*

I like rodney and sheppard as characters and ronin as eye candy :D Teyla I didn't mind, but she is getting more annoying.

I like them cos they are just fun to watch, not too serious and easy to follow. And pretty ;)
