just saw it this morning.
I'm not usually a fan of comic book adaptions, so I was expecting it to be an Abomination Unto God, but it was relatively decent. i don't regret my 5bux anyhoo.
I liked the ending, it was sort of refreshing for the genre.
[edit]: what's weird is that i'm looking forward to a sequel. I can't remember this ever happening to me before for an action flick.

My only critisism would be that it was very open-ended.

It sort of felt like it was a (very good) pilot for a tv show, like that.

Well, I saw an early showing of Iron Man last night and must say that I really enjoyed it. I knew next to nothing about this character except that he was an alkie and built a robotic suit to fight baddies.
What I liked:
-How they managed the time of introducing the character, the action, and the plot. The directing was very well done.
-Acting was great. I was into it. Robert Downey Jr. did great as Tony Stark.
-Special Effects were fantastic. Not overly done. There were certain parts that were extreme eye-candy.
-The humour. Done lightly but effectively. I had a blast seeing him fumbling around in the suit.
-The Romance aspect was sort of there but not. More of a "I want to be with you but I can't", sort of like Batman and Rachel Daws. Lots of chemistry between Downey and Paltrow.
-The reversal of the "secret identity". He just said screw it. Lol.
All in all, it was a very well-balanced comic book adaptation that was funny and very interesting. I went to see it because I was invited by a couple of friends but found that I left with the same enthusiasm as them. My friend's only criticism was the lack of a super-villain. Hmm....nah I thought it worked out pretty good.
JUST GO SEE IT!! It is NOT a Ghost Rider or Dare Devil!

Bingo.
Although it was very cool in parts. Robert Downey Jr owns the movie. Very reminiscent of Batman Begins in how the 'suit' doesn't really show up for a while, and then the whole persona goes through development.
The Nick Fury cameo at the end was fun. (although I am a little tired of Sam Jackson being shown as the epitome of cool).
Kudos to Marvel for taking the plunge and producing the movie. If they play their cards right and put together an Avengers movie, that will be something to see. The Incredible Hulk trailers look promising, as does the anticipation for the Thor movie...

One of the best marvel movies for a long time (in fact one of the best superhero movies for a long time...) It was certainly up to the hype (unlike the abysmal piderman 3 and the too boring/too short Jumper) It made me laugh, and it had a slight twist in it, which is more can be said for the predictability of most superhero films...
I really liked it.
Spoiler
I really liked it.

That wasn't a twist! That was standard heromovie-fare.

When Bryan Hitch and Mark Millar relaunched the Avengers as The Ultimates a few years ago, Hitch decided to make Nick Fury African American, and ALSO drew him to resemble Sam Jackson, so the Fury scene after the credits is EXTRA geeky for those who are into comic books, cause the current Nick Fury IS Sam Jackson! (see below)

The other cool thing is that Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark has a cameo in the new Incredible Hulk film as well. It really feels like they are trying to put together an Avengers flick....which would rock!
Anyway. LOVED Iron Man! Just effing brilliant!

So you didn't know that they're definitely making Thor, Avengers and Captain America movies?
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Stark's house computer was a great comedic device. It had an annoying pseudo-british accent though.

Avengers has to be realised, and then you know what the story line is going to be... SKRULLS! OH YEEEAHH!
Throw in some Kree, different character background stories, Hulk freaking out at some point and destroying half a city, and lots and lots of special effects and you could make an Avengers Trilogy!
Not that it would ever come true unfortunantly...

He's the boss of SHIELD. Seriously, there's a wikipedia out there.
Also, the computer is based upon the comics butler of Tony Stark, also called Jarvis, who is awfully posh, wot? And also dated Spiderman's aunt, apparently.

heh...
now a word from someone who grew up without comics
I seen the movie today
It was a good action movie. Tony Stark's badass enough, movie had a few funny moments. Enjoyed it overall
The comic nerdfest may now resume
