Am curious, are your faves lists an evolving thing or is it 'fixed'?

Mine has always evolved... I would have put GRRM on my list circa 2002ish when i read the first three SIF books and everyone expected bk 4 any minute. FEAST came out in 2005, disappointed, and down he plummets. I know, i know, he doesn't care, but the point is we've grown apart. Weber would have been on there once but i overWeber'd. Sanderson was an author i enjoyed circa MISTBORN but STORMLIGHT ARCHIVE pushed him to mytop tier. Since i discovered his work GGK has always been near the top, notwithstanding how little i enjoyed certain books. Pierce Brown has steadily climbed with every RED RISING book.

Btw Light yes sf is perfectly acceptable here as is thriller, historical, alt-hist, milsf, non-fiction, comics and pretty much anything else you read.

Mine evolved a lot until I read Deadhouse Gates.

Damn, Trump living his 'brand' and has gone on a firing spree. Not only did he fire Alexander Vindman and had him escorted out by security, but he also fired Vindman's twin brother.

At least Trump waited two days after being acquitted to begin this house cleaning. \_(ツ)_/

Good thing we don't have Gulag like forced-labor camps* somewhere inside the arctic circle in Alaska, I'm guessing some folks would find themselves 'reassigned' there.

*shhhh, we do, don't tell anyone. ;)

It's amazing to me that this needs to be said, but Donald Trump is not a communist.

The Malazan Empire may not last as long as you might think. Although its status in the novel canon is unknown, Erikson's gaming map of Quon Tali is labelled as "Post-Empire circa 1325". It seems to show Quon Tali as broken back down into its constituent parts less than 160 years after the MBotF.

    Map link

Interesting. I wonder if some of the Malazan reforms will stick, or if it will go back to being the awful mess it was.

Considering it was the sheer strength of personality that let Kel and Dancer form it in the first place, and how completely things went to crap when Laseen took over, i'm doubting the Empire survives Rel, tho that in itself would be an interesting story to read.

Post Kel/Dancer, so to speak, the Empire's lost 7C, failed to take the best part of Genabackis, and failed to take back Korel. That leaves Malaz Island, Unta, Itko Kan, Nap, Kartool, the Wickan Plains, and chunks or Genabackis and Dal Hon of debatable value? ...a i missing anywhere?

It's been suggested that the loss of 7C and the Wickan Plains will cause a food shortage. Wondering if that will play out at any point.

But the Empire retook 7C... well, such as it is now after the plague.

The current Iowa caucus format takes like 6 hours to do. It's so time consuming and so often confusing that my Iowan friend, a very enthusiastic left wing civic minded person, got a bit upset just now bc a vote would have been so much faster.

    Caucuses are undemocratic.

Only people who can afford to spend basically a whole day not at work, possibly traveling usually further from where they live than a polling place usually is (or, you know, the option of mailing a ballot) can really participate. Naturally, this excludes a lot of the working poor.

Of course, personally I think it would be better if we just did ranked choice, all on the same day, instead of the long drawn out primary system we have.

I thought the results were meant to be in for Iowa last night....what's going on? Shenanigans?

The process is new, and they apparently tried using an app that crashed, so they are manually recording then counting votes.

I'm not really sure why each station has their own delegates, or why a coin flip is the 'correct' method to determine who gets delegates if 2 candidates both have a 'share'. Seems pretty odd to me.

It really feels like they are trying to replicate the presidential election results without addressing the issues in that election.

Edit - To be clear, this is run by the Iowa Democratic Party, not the national one. And it sure reeks of unprofessional/unprepared people trying to be on the main stage. I have no idea why we don't just start with Super Tuesday. Why do IA, NH, and NC go first, and are so important? That seems... odd.

I can say that Biden appears to be doing terribly, and it looks like Klobuchar and Buttigieg are splitting the old white vote. Buttigieg somehow polls worse among minorities than Biden, and none of those three candidates are going to get anyone who doesn't normally vote to do so. I'm happy Gabbard is non-existant. I'd really like the race to be between Warren and Sanders, but we got captain oligarch, Bloomberg, spending a ton of money to try and buy his way into the race, because he is afraid of the economic policies of Warren and Sanders.

I'd also suggest that Buttigieg did better in Iowa then he would in a general, since it's his home state, which is an expected thing.

All of these numbers are from polls before the Caucaus, be they internal candidate numbers or polled by 3rd parties, because we have like 1.7% reporting in any real numbers, by my last check.

Caucuses are stupid and I hate them.

We need to just have ranked choice primaries, all on the same fucking day. This is ridiculous.

I'm glad Biden is doing poorly. Dude had no business even running, and I remember groaning when he announced he was, what feels like forever ago now.

Bloomberg is very obviously trying to buy the election, but I'm hoping he'll only split the "moderate" vote even more.

You like throwing it about but don't like to take it, don't you? How about we just stay away from the red button altogether, and green button stuff we like, as I prefer to do? But FYI, I negged you because you're so quick on the draw with it against other people. So how about we just stay on our own sides of the fence from now on eh? Peace.
