I finally got around to starting book 11, about halfway through. I have to say, I'm enjoying it in spite of myself. RJ finally decided it was time to advance things at a reasonable rate, and many of the things I don't like about his characters are toned down. One of the best books of the series.

There's no doubt, it's a significant improvement from the few before it

Confirmation that Red Eagle are total wankers:

Quote

DM: In one of his last blog posts, Jim made a negative comment about Red Eagle Entertainment that fueled a lot of speculation about Red Eagle Entertainment and your intentions with respect to THE WHEEL OF TIME. How will you convince Jim’s fans to trust you and give their full support to Red Eagle Entertainment’s WHEEL OF TIME projects?

REE: Let us first say that nothing Jim ever said did anything to diminish our great respect for him, his creative energy, and his vision for THE WHEEL OF TIME.

No, you idiots, he wasn't asking if you were going to 'forgive' Robert Jordan for what he said, he wanted to know how you were going to win back the fans' trust and faith after apparently screwing over the author and insulting him. Insulting him again after he's passed away is not the best way of doing this.

Well, I was inpsired to rant about this.

Ken, Adam,

Nice Posts! It is such a shame that these tools are still involved with WoT. I'm not sure how thins came about, but I hope it wasn't a $ grab after RJ's death. Doubt the project will go ahead anyway, but definitely not pleased to see REE involved.

Well, getting toward the end of book 5 finally. I really like this one. There was a lot of dicking around at the start but the battle at carhien (spelling?) is shaping up to be pretty rad.

I'm also really digging the Nynaeve / Elayne / Thom / Julin / Prophet story thread now that they've joined the menagerie and aren't fucking around yelling "men!" and "women!" at each other anymore

and (putting this spoilermode here cause its pretty major)
Spoiler

I mean - you knew it was going to happen eventually but what a great way for it to finally happen.

I wonder if he touched her source....heh heh heh

I was a total fanboy of WOT 'til i got to, i think, book 9. Gave up at that point and decided to wait until the whole thing is finished.

2 years between books was just too long to wait and book 9 (i think) really dragged.

when its all finished off, in about 30 years time, I'll do a re-read and finish the series off.

@cerveza: yeah that battle at cairhien is pretty cool. tarmon gai'don should be awesome.

GRRM fans are laughing at your impatience.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Also, it will be finished in 3 years. BS is working like a dog, but I'm sure he wants to go ahead and get this over with so he can fully concentrate on his own stuff (not that he's rushing...I don't think he is, anyway).

Heck, Donaldson fans are/have been waiting 3 years each for 4 books.

bloody hell! really 3 years between books? i am way way too impatient for that.

but with robert jordan, iirc, he was also writing Conan books while still on with WoT. I kept thinking will you stop fucking around and get on with it.

At least with Erikson you only (erm..."only") have to wait about a year.

much more reasonable.

I hope you said 'only' with lots of irony on top.
One book a year, of that quality and size, is more than amazing and basically written at break neck speed.

oh yeah.

The carhienin battle totally paid off. Mat is getting to be a half-decent character finally.

Also liking the slight craziness that Rand is starting to display while talking to the Taieren and Cairhiennin lords. I can tell he's gonna unleash all kinds of hurt on the forsaken here pretty soon.

The Conan books were written in the early 80's when the movie came out. They were rereleased in the 90's along with his "Fallon" trilogy and his western book, to cash in on the popularity of WoT. The only other books RJ worked on during his writing of WoT was the New Spring story for Legends, the expanded version of that story and the Guide to WoT.

Yup, the Battle of Cairhien kicked ass. And I love Rand's craziness. It's one of my favorite things about WoT. And also, it's the reason RJ started writing WoT - the scenario that a regular guy gets tapped on the shoulder, told he's the savior of the world, and will probably die in the end. What would REALLY happen? Well, the dude would go nuts of course.

That's very exciting. I think I may be anticipating this book even more than DoD.
