Abyss, ...does in fact know someone named 'Rand'...

But do you know Lews Therin? :p

Actually, i was hideously dissappointed to discover yesterday that it's just short for 'Randall'. That deceitful bastard.

- Abyss, will make him pay... oh yes, how he will pay...

I know a guy who has 4 kids, all named after WoT stuff. Lews Therin, Aryth, Moiraine, and I forget the other one. What's funny is that I met him at Piano Society. He doesn't hang out at WoT fansites. :p

Next time you see him ask him what it's like to know you've booked your kids a 14 year ticket on the bully express.

Knowing this guy's genes, I wouldn't worry too much about that.

Seriously?

Oh yeah. Not so much since the move and it was never like every five seconds or anything (but then neither is the Goodkind thing on Westeros), but people would slag him off with very little reason plus the apparently obligatory comments about how he's obviously going to die soon and all that stuff. Combined with the people on this forum who were actually gloating over RJ's illness and then death plus the juvenile 'hawt girls' threads, and you start seeing why Malazanempire has a bit of a crappy reputation out there amongst the various fantasy forums. I was going to say that things had been looking a lot better since the move, but then there were a few flame-war threads recently which weren't particularly pleasent either.

No, but big enough to handle whatever comes their way. I told him he should have never chosen Moiraine, with his genes...it's not right!

Stranger than Lews Therin? Named after a fantasy character? The shame. :killingme:

Well, being named after a fantasy character is a far sight better than a lot of the made-up names we get around here. Lews Therin sounds fairly normal, too - most people won't know what it's from. ;)

I know a fellow who named his son Anakin. Poor little bugger is going to be known as Annie for the rest of his days.

This is light hearted topic but please lets try to keep it about the Wheel of Time rather than Terez friend's borderline child abuse case. I'm just as guilty so no petty recriminations yet.

just bought books 5 and 6 of WoT at the awesome used book store downtown. I swear that place has got exactly what you want every time. They even had a few malazan books.

So I'm pretty stoked to get into those. I gotta finish Clash of Kings and Devices and Desires first, but from what I've heard 5 and 6 are pretty much the height of the series before it gets into the later (and slower) books between 7 and 11. If they're anything like 4, I'm sure I'll like em.

I suppose if you grab 7-11 in one fell swoop they read better in chunks. One of the failings of the series is the sense of 'i waited three years and spent $40 and that was IT???'. Read a few at a time, the big events run together better imnsho.

- Abyss, evolved survival techniques.

I finally got around to starting book 11, about halfway through. I have to say, I'm enjoying it in spite of myself. RJ finally decided it was time to advance things at a reasonable rate, and many of the things I don't like about his characters are toned down. One of the best books of the series.

Confirmation that Red Eagle are total wankers:

Quote

DM: In one of his last blog posts, Jim made a negative comment about Red Eagle Entertainment that fueled a lot of speculation about Red Eagle Entertainment and your intentions with respect to THE WHEEL OF TIME. How will you convince Jim’s fans to trust you and give their full support to Red Eagle Entertainment’s WHEEL OF TIME projects?

REE: Let us first say that nothing Jim ever said did anything to diminish our great respect for him, his creative energy, and his vision for THE WHEEL OF TIME.

No, you idiots, he wasn't asking if you were going to 'forgive' Robert Jordan for what he said, he wanted to know how you were going to win back the fans' trust and faith after apparently screwing over the author and insulting him. Insulting him again after he's passed away is not the best way of doing this.
