That's nothing compared to how outraged I was from reading the Tamuli series. This is what Eddings does best: he takes a perfectly good idea, then he completely shreds it, mutilates it and then tortures you with it. :p Horrifying horrifying authoring! Gaaaah! :p

The biggest ick-factor in the Tamuli was Sparhawk, who's like 40, getting his freak on with the 16 yr old princess.

Disregarding various other crap in that series (which was unfortunate because i did like the whole 'sorcerer-knights' thing) that was just... ew.

- Abyss, ...seriously, ew...

I swear to god Eragon is a better book/film than that, I would rather read Goodkind than read more Eddings.

To be fair, that is Eddings at his absolute worst. Not that he's stellar when at his best, but everything written before the Elder Gods series is better.

I wanted to strange someone mid-way through Redemption of Althalus. I still can't believe I finished it.

I'll never touch an Edding's book again.

Exactly how I felt. However, I wouldn't say that Eragon was better, I mean shit, Sleepers was bad, but fucking aye, Eragon wasn't THAT good lol. And the film... oh God, elves with rounded ears, dwarves that stood as tall as humans. The best part of that movie was the CGI of Saphirra lol.

STOP THE HATE ON GOODKIND! lol
I still heart Goodkind.

Suck it Errant!

It has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the most powerful force on Wu is a bunch of messed-up Malazans with Moranth munitions.

Imagine every cookie-cutter character Eddings ever used, then put them all in one book. Only, take away whatever it was that made them at all cool ever. Dumb down his usual dialogue. Remove any subtlety from the writing, and any likability from the characters.. End EVERY FUCKING SCENE with a lame 1980's sitcom style freeze frame with everyone laughing at some horrible joke. Dumb everything down a little more, to the point where it would be hard to even call this YA fiction, let alone adult. Stir in a pointless, meandering plot with a contrived bad guy, who will be defeated by unabashedly undusguised deus ex machina, not once, not twice, but in literally every single armed conflict in the entire series. Not subtle deus ex machina. I mean, everyone is in trouble, and a god literally comes out of the sky to save them. Awful crap.

I have to agree with the Elder Gods hate, only series ive ever stopped reading through dislike as opposed to mild indifferance. It's just bad.
That said, Ive gotta give eddings some credit, the belgariad/mallorean is like the netto chocolate of the Fantasy world, it's cheap, nasty and yet still somehow tasty. Plus he got my bro into reading (along with HP) so thats always a good thing.

As for controversial opinions... I like The Redemption of Althalus.... there, I said it. So let the flaming begin ;)

Don't worry mate, I like The Redemption of Althalus as well. Found it quite an entertaining book. I was afraid to say it before, but they hate me for liking Goodkind, so my hole could not be dug any deeper I figure lol.

Oh Eddings does deserve credit. Not for the Elder God's though. No way in hell.
I still heart Goodkind.

No, we hate Goodkind.

The only thing we can feel for you is pity and sadness ;)

:)

As for eddings have read the belgariad/mallorean.

Very boring and full of cliches. Also disliked how he wussed out on killing anyone significant.

Had:

Spoiler

If I hadn't been far younger when I read it first, I would have found it far worse than I did at the time. Though I generally finish things I start.

Yes, we all love you. Of course.
Now just put on this jacket.
Yes, the arms are a littel odd. Don't worry, you'll get used to them.
