Found an interesting quote as I was parsing DG just now looking for a quote about bonecasters necessarily being soletaken...

DG, on On board the Silanda, said:

"Bonecaster," Kulp said. "What warren is this?"
Hentos Ilm paused, attention still on Heboric. "Elder. Kurald Emurlahn."
"I've heard of Kurald Galain—the Tiste Andii warren."
"This is Tiste Edur. You surprise me, Mage. You are Meanas Rashan, which is the branch of Kurald Emurlahn accessible to mortal humans. The warren you use is the child of this place."

I sense a great disturbance in the force.

I always figured the matron death cry spell was more like a black hole - matters and energy go in and poof, gone.

And of course, KG is described as being incredibly chilly in GotM (though nowhere else, it seems).

isn't the gate to KG in the prologue described as being colder than OP

I've always thought of her predicament as such, a darkness that is trapped into devouring itself....

I wonder, does Rake know of his mum's problem and care?

The Meanas/Rashan topic seems to me like the phoenix bird :D Every now and then it reincarnates and people seem to have forgotten all about it by the time.

There's even an interview question to SE about that. AFAIR, officially Meanas is modern KE and Rashan is modern KG, and messing them up a LOT in the earlier book is due to various reasons - overlooking (the Imass episode quoted above), deliberate purposes or 7Cities' presumable cultural differencies.

In the wake of all that, Apsal’ara had attempted to follow the beasts, only to be driven back by the immense cold of that portal -- cold so fierce it destroyed flesh, colder even than Omtose Phellack. The cold of negation. Denial.

That is pretty amazing, something being colder than the warren of... cold. Hadn't thought about that at all.

I think the best explanation for this even being possible is that it's Mother Dark or the very center of darkness that exists inside the wagon. Total darkness, a place where the warmth of fire or light has never existed, the complete absence of energy. Then again who's to say that the center of OP isn't also a big fucking lump of -273 degree nothingness.

mmm the "cold of negation"... so abosolute zero then, zero movement of atoms and what not....to go in there would be to cease being pretty much...sucks

meh, Im sure all Apsalara needed was a jacket,

I'm not quite ready to hang my head in same. My original post is probably wrong, but the reasons you gave do not add up. MD being in KG? Rake & Korlat's reaction to Silverfox? How does their reaction determine whether or not Nightchill is MD? And the Draconian family tree does not mention Nightchill as it is an alias!

Please be aware that i do not fully believe myself, let alone expect anyone else to, but please provide hard evidence against this idea.

Old bean? Cambridge grad?

Cool.

"adopts Cambridge grad-ishness"

I say, you chaps, that bally theory sounds absolutely spiffing.

But I believe that, like Rashan and KG are different, so is its progenitor and perhaps another candidate.

Going back a while, Apt says Rake could be using Rashan, yet it says in MoI when he attacks the Tenescowri and I think when Korlat is a dragon their breath is pure Kurald Galain so I don't think so.

There is demonstrably something (or several somethings) very significant we don't know about Tiste history possibly only known to the leaders of the Tiste peoples. Maybe Rake, Darist and Ruin aren't anything more than the most ancient of the children of an ancient and powerful Tiste (or tiste family), maybe the same is true for the Edur royals, Osric or Scabandari. When you consider that Osric is considered by some to be Father light and yet by others to be the first child of father light you can see how the identity and nature of MD may have become unclear, to all except the powerful few who guard the secret of her nature, or the nature of the Tiste to maintain their own legitamacy and/or protect their peoples.

My suspicion is that the reality is relatively mundane (in Wu terms). My own pet theory is that the Tiste are physiologically no more different than black or white humans (Andii can dance) and they are being kept apart by Rake,Osric and the ignorance of the Edur for some historical reason.

Remeber also that the word of a Bonecaster may be a mis-step by SE or a mistake by the Bonecaster or a lie.

My own theory, not so far off, was that the Tiste races are actually aspected reflections of humans, ie: humans came BEFORE the Tiste races. They just don't know it.

This also builds on the notion that humans worshipped the Elder Gods into existance.

- Abyss, basically, blames humans for everything...

and she's not Abyss. I blame Abyss for EVERYTHING! No RoTCG prologue yet? It's Abyss' fault.

Just kidding. I just felt the urge to make gratuitous fun of somebody and Abyss was the last poster.

Seriously, that would be a highly interesting slant to the mythology if the Andii were that far wrong or delusional about their origins. Udinaas would be slack jawed.

So, expanding on that, does that mean a splinter cult worshipped Apt into existance to oppose him?

And, more importantly, did the collective unconscious of fantasy readers tired of "same old crap" worshipped SE to exist?
