The Good:

The Comedian, Nite Owl, Dr. Manhattan, Rorschach (especially), the Owlship, the brilliant introduction, the music, the special effects, the changed ending (and only the mechanism is changed, not the actual ending or the last scene), the themes and moral ambivalence and the final shot.

The Meh:

Ozymandias, Silk Spectre. A lot of the secondary character arcs are cut short (Hollis Mason, the people on the street at the end) but confusingly they're still in the movie, presumably to be reinstated in the DVD. In one case (Rorschach's psychologist) I saw other people in the audience getting confused as his previous scene made it appear that Rorschach had killed him.

The Bad:

Nixon's fake nose and chin looked pretty ridiculous. The blood and gore was ludicrously over the top. In 300 it was appropriate to the comic book, whilst here it's wildly overdone. There isn't this much gore in the book, so why is the film almost swimming in it at times? And they got rid of Ozy's two iconic lines at the end (well got rid of one, and changed the other to something far lamer). And that's probably about it.

Overall, decent. I think those who've read the book will appreciate it more than those who haven't, but not to the same scale as say the 1984 version of Dune.

Spoiler

Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Just saw this with some friends a couple hours ago (saw it matinee... :))

Pretty weird/random, I have to say, but a good movie overall. Damn long, too.

I have one complaint:

TOO MUCH BLUE DICK

thanks.

(by the way, what's the original ending (in the comic)?

Just saw it. Very impressive film and adaptation but I didn't care for it.

Don't read if you haven't read the comic or seen the film yet, obviously:

Spoiler

I'm pretty sure it's the fact that
Spoiler
that led them to cut it out of the movie, though.

ARRRRGH! I so badly want to watch this, but I have dicks for friends and no one will go with me.

And I will not go see a comic book movie by myself. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES!

This is about it.

I haven't seen the comics or anything.

TOO MUCH BLUE DICK IS CORRECT.

It wasn't as good as I expected (the film, I mean, not the blue dick... that was great). A bit too over the top in places, especially with the fight scenes.

Meh, it did ok by the book, so no complaints.

Apart from the line-change (and a few other iconic moments being butchered or twisted), my main problem with the ending was this:

Spoiler
.

The first two hours were pretty good.
