Just saw this with some friends a couple hours ago (saw it matinee... :))

Pretty weird/random, I have to say, but a good movie overall. Damn long, too.

I have one complaint:

TOO MUCH BLUE DICK

thanks.

(by the way, what's the original ending (in the comic)?

This is about it.

I haven't seen the comics or anything.

TOO MUCH BLUE DICK IS CORRECT.

Homophobes are usually the ones with the most to hide.
You so insecure about yourself that the sight of a flaccid penis puts you off? :p
Even a blue CGI one?..hahaha

anyways...When i left the cinema i wasnt sure if i liked the movie or not.
There was just so much hype and and anticipation i think it all was too much for my brain to process.
But when i started talking to my my friends about it i realized i did enjoy it.
It just took a while to sink in.
I hope all the loose ends are tied up better in the directors cut...that is my only major gripe.
oh...and the dodgy make up.

Incidentally the actress who plays Silk Spectre 2 gets her tits out in Harold and Kumar Something Something.

That is all.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Was it unnecessary?

If you were god, what need do have for clothing? Its another subtle hint at his losing touch with humanity.
Ask Moore why he is walking around nekkid then...it is after all in the Comic.

Just saw it. Overall I enjoyed it, but the ending didn't cut it for me. When I read the graphic novel I thought the ending was a little weird but I didn't like how they changed the movie to make it more accessible for others. Since that ended up making me dislike this ending more.

I thought the movie was true to the comic and followed the style, the atmosphere and the grunginess of Watchmen. I loved it. call me a comic book geek if you want, but that is exactly what I wanted in the film...

I'm still unsure whether I liked the movie or not.... There were a number of points I disliked, and some of the actors (specifically thinking Silk Spectre 2 here) just weren't good actors. However, Rorschach and the Comedian were excellently done. Visually it was amazing, and I like the movie just for that.

I really prefer the comic book ending personally.

Unfortunately they butchered the soundtrack. A number of the songs were great and fit the movie fine, but they were poorly placed (Hendrix in particular). And they used SUCH an awful version of Hallelujah.

Spoiler

I'm torn really. A second viewing will be needed, and with the awe of how awesome it looked gone... I suspect I'll dislike it more.

I read the comic and thought it was interesting. I disliked the movie becuae of fucking dark, grim and gory it was. I should have known what it would be like but the movie was so much more visceral than the comic that I was surprised.

And the actress who played Silk 2 was not very good. Terrible wig too.

Saw it on Sunday night. To be honest, my reaction to it was primarily one of disappointment. The film strikes me as a catalogue of missed chances. What should have been attempted was to make a film that has the same effect on the viewer as the book has on the reader, without being slavishly tied to the text. The latter, I think, turns out to be the film's downfall.

Most of the narrative beats were there - although some of the very interesting ones weren't - understandably I'd say, as to include everything would probably have required a 9 hour cut and left a very confused audience. And the film does look the part; like Sin City, it's possible that in places it tries to be too faithful to its source material. But overall it seems to me as is if it had been made by someone who had no concept of the word subtlety.

Maybe a second viewing will make me like it more, but I doubt it.
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. It IS allot for a person to take in if you have not read the Gnovel. You get bombarded with tons of info.

Watched it last saturday, without having read the novel its not a great movie, there was a feeling of missing chapters/scenes.. a pity since it had potential

not being familiar with the novel I can't help but feel all the heroes aside from Manhattan were 1-dimensional, sexually frustrated individuals.. niteowl and spectre fights seemed awkward due to their emotional frailty, speaking of awkward, who scored this movie? gah'damn! luftbaloons need not be in any movie.. philip glass shoulda scored it all..

so the smartest man in the worlds plan was to destroy the world but put the blame on someone else so everyone could love one another, im probably wrong but I kind of lost interest when the "two riders were approaching and the wind began to howl!" and purple horned tigers.. manhattan coulda teleported all the nukes to Uranus if he wants to play god so bad.. along with 99 red baloons and rubber noses..

shoulda woulda coulda movie..

my main problem with this movie was the use of music. In Donnie Darco the music is subtle and flows with the movie to the extent that at times you do not notice it at all.

Watchmen on the other hand used music as a sledgehammer to inform you that the mood of the next scene would be [insert]

In all honesty, a lot of the music was in the graphic novel for those scenes. Including All Along The Watchtower.

Must say I'm impressed with the movie not that its perfect or even that very good but it is a good adeptation of the series...

To the point where I felt having read the series nearly was a bad thing, you knew the jokes, the turnes of the plot etc...really ended up more of ooo how have they made that part...

Still it is eye candy now and then and did not feel long even thought it was...also can't remember when I last saw a nice looking intro that added to the movie instead of being a way to play the themesong...

Wow, I just saw this movie. I have never read a comic or graphic novel in my life but I did follow the build up to the movie in magazines and online so I had a handle on the plot beforehand. I have to say, that is one of the best films I have seen in a while. Good action, plenty of violence and a smart plot. What more could you want except that it looks great on top of that! It was clear there were layers of information missing but the film had all the basics to follow along.

I had a problem with the music too. Even if it is in the graphic novel. The Hendrix and Dylan stuff didn't fit with the political landscape of the plot.

Does Dr Manhattan not have testicles? Lucky he had the decency to wear his trunks when he was giant.

Reading back, I think people are disappointed either because they have read the graphic novel and the movie isn't as good (which I can imagine with the detail I have heard couldn't fit in a film) or because they haven't read it and didn't know what to expect.

And the chicks love the superhero flying ship with cloud cover autopilot.

EDIT - Oh yes, and watching a movie in a theatre right in the location of the blast near the end of the movie was a bit of a mind fuck! I walked out afterwards expecting to see a nuclear landscape!

I wonder if Zack Snyder has any real imagination... bear with me.

He directed 300, which was almost frame-for-frame the same as the comic, and now Watchmen, which was so similar to the book it just reminded me that the book was better (although I did enjoy the film too).

I wonder if his next film will be another comic adaptation, and if it will be as slavish to the source material. I hate watching a film and knowing exactly what is going to happen next, and what lines are going to be said next.

Lord of the Rings is the perfect example of how to adapt source material (yeah, I know it wasn't a comic). Different, with its own voice. Added something to the proceedings, rather than just trying to 3D-ize the story.

I think that is pretty harsh Yellow.

I just saw it and was absolutely tickled pink by the film. It was visually stunning, the audio was amazing, and the acting was great (Despite what others think).

Spoiler

And The Comedian was well done, him and Rorschach being my favorites in the movie.

Silk Spectre II was hot. So so so so so so hot.

What else .... I feel however my viewing pleasure was put off because a mother had brought her ten year old son to watch the movie and he chewed chips and candy all throughout, as well as crackling his chip bag. And the mum kept putting her hand over his eyes everytime there was sex or extreme violence. Which was completely stupid, take the fucking kid out of the cinema YOU HORRIBLE PARENT!!

I can't wait till it comes out on blu-ray and I can watch it at home with my surround.
