hmm, I really like it. Not my favorite, but hell of a lot better than the fricken BH cover.

What does the american cover for Reaper's Gale look like? I think I saw it somewhere but am too lazy to look. ;) I'd be grateful for a link right now...

Its an ok cover.

Lots of speculation up for grabs here.

I'm with a lot of people on how they don't really look like dogs. Look at the length of tail................. and the creature 4 from the left could be my cat Frank...... after an all night bender and a headache from hell.

As for the chap im only aware of one axe wielding dude, i cant remember his name....... whatshisface who opened the gates of Aren?.......... Barawhoevermacallit?

And as for the wolf looking white dog type thing???? ..........That could either be a Hound of light or a minion of the wolves of winter.

OR! SHOCK HORROR!!!! WILD THEORY:

The dude with the Axe is Kalam and the wolf running away sharpish is none other then Quick Ben in his Soletaken form.

A white wolf. Would kind of make sense why the Perish Were deferential to him also?

* Sits back and await debate, ............handsomely of course *
"I think i was a bad person before. Before this time. I do not try to be good now but i am not bad. Perhaps if i try harder i may get a better hand dealt next time? But surely that makes it pointless? Perhaps i am good. Just good at being pointless. But that would make me bad. Bad at having a point. Ah…. I see now. I was nothing before, I am nothing now. I am bad purely because im pointless. "

If that man is Dessimbelackis, he's not as big as I imagined, after reading about the chaincoat wearing dude in Reapers Gale.

Not the man, the D'ivers.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

I don't think the guy's Barathol. He's supposed to be a big blacksmith chap, that guy doesn't look big enough. Also Barathol wears a fair amount of armour, he doesn't go around topless. Or did he lose his armour in BH?

Aye, he dropped all his armour when he rescued Chaur iirc. When the moon was falling all over the place...

Dunno if he found more or not.

But was he wearing the armour when he was on the ship? He probably did lose it, just seems unlikely that he'd not pick up some basic stuff to cover himself.
It could just be "generic axeman" or something :

Do you know who else uses an axe?

Redmask. A whip thing and an axe, to be more precise. But he lost his whip in the final battle against the Letherii. Of course, he was then chopped up, but you never know.... ;) ;) :D :)

hmm.. nah

The way I remember RM's axe bing described, it had 2 perpendicular blades.. also, it was a 1-handed aze, not 2 handed

If the city is Darujhistan, that it pretty much can't be a "generic axeman".

However, it could just be a refernce to a totally obscure point in the book (a la tBH), like a flashbac tot he First Empire and the Ritual of the Beast. With teh Soletaken and D'ivers going insane all over, chaos and burning, I could see a "generic axeman" in the mix..

The axe could also be the first weapon he grabbed after breaking out since he has a cuff and broken chain showing.

ShadowOwl has a point. It doesn't need to be a specific person who already had an axe. Apparently SE did not know who the axeman was, either that or the artist did not.

The way I read it is that Todd Lockwood has not read the scene, he was merely told to draw scene x with an axeman, a white hound, and some other hounds. Apparently he got the number of hounds wrong as SE believes there should be only 5, which suggests that they are the hounds of shadow.

It seems to me that the amorphous dog/cats also have some sort of mane, rather like a jackal. The snout is too short for a jackal, though, and does resemble more of a cat. I guess hounds could have shorter snouts than wolves.

Also, I like the added touch of a bell in the tower behind. Could it be Krul's Belfry, "tolling" the Hounds?

That is one freaky huge statue, too.

I kind of like that idea of that being Draconus, what with the chains and all.

The toll of the hounds has something to do whith Gadrobi herders if were to go on Tocs opinion of paying the 'toll of the hound'. Seems like a clever way of Erikson highlighting the next book will be in Genabackis
