I would have kicked him in the groin.

There's a reason they keep me away from the public most of the time.

He's so ugly I still almost pitied him. He had brought a few mexican call girls from Tecate with him, and basically rented out a cottage to have an orgy.

And no, the girls weren't hot either. :p

I've never worked a job that had me working for tips. I get paid in at the middle and at the end of the month, regardless of my interactions with the public. Well, almost regardless. If I went postal on someone, I would expect not to get paid again as they would have to fire me.:p

It would be a nervous existence, I would think, relying on strangers for payment.

Today was not so good. Everyone was carrying their own luggage. Don't they know I depend on their laziness?!!?!?!

Damn people with their stupid ability to do their own lifting...*shakes fist*

It appears that is the case, RR. I had a guy from France today tell me that Americans are lazy and that's why our country is weak.

This was right before he stiffed me and shut the door in my face.

HAHAH! I doubt that was anything cultural, he was probably just an asshole:)

In France, instead of tipping, can we deduct money from our bill for the service?

Italians give tips but only to italians or in an italian resturant:D it's simple a different culture. And by the way you americans ask too much! 15%! Are you joking! I only give 5 € to my usual waiter at the pizza-place

In Berlin a waitress looked comically shocked and then delighted when we tried to tip her. At first she thought we were stupid and couldnt count what we owed properly, but then we explained it to her in a roundabout fashion (5 self-fancying German speakers and none of us knew the word for "tip") and her expressions were just gold.

By the way, the final score of this tipping debate indicates....

I WIN! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ;) :)

You win if you serve Americans, you fail if you serve anyone else:p

I was probably considered extremely rude when in the US the first time many years ago, being completely ignorant of the system. Nowadays, I always try to get it right but it feels strange and I worry about it every time I'm paying the bill. In one hotel in NYC you even were supposed to tip both the waiter in their restaurant and his "captain" according to the receit. I guess I'm just not used to better restaurants.

why hte hell would you tip his captain, he didn't carry you any food.
This topic actually came up at breakfast this morning, one of my friends regailed us with a tale of eating in a posh nosh joint in belfast.
they got their billa dn it was 80 quid (can't get my pound sign to work atm) they couldnt figure it out ass it should only have been like 50ish.
Then they looked at the reciept, there was a 24 great british pounds "service charge"
I would have refuesd to pay it, if you're going to slap this on anyway, why dont you just factor it into the fucking prices on the menu. Its a disgrace, its false pricing on the menus.

Oh my.... I am actually agreeing with Macros on this thread!

A stealth "service charge" that is automatically added isn't very nice.

I can't believe this thread has been resurrected, again. In our culture, tipping in compulsory. In your culture, bitching about tipping is compulsory.;) We're going to just have to agree that different things are compulsory in different cultures, and leave it at that.:)
