Smallville

We're always behind on this series here in Denmark but I've been using Sidereel to catch up. I'm about 6 episodes into season 7 and I'm left with this feeling of why bother.
What the hell are the producers thinking? There's no originality left. It's all going in cirkles, revising old stories and random crap.
It's become a stable now that in every season Clark is going to be exposed to red cryptonite that's going to make him do something crazystupid but afterwards people will have amnesia or he'll just be able to excuse it with being drunk/high/mentally insane and people forgive him.
Clark will at least twenty times during the season barge into Lex's mansion/some top secret installation/a government building in his every day clothes with out using a mask or anything but nobody will ask questions as to how a 18 year old? kid gets into these places. None of the cameras will pick up on Clarks activities and everything is okay.
Clark will put away at least 5 meteor freaks and a dozen criminals who will all be locked up in bellreeve(sp?) but no one, not even Lex who probably owns the place, is going to pick up on mad people raving about a kid from smallville whoping their asses.
Finally there going to be this teeny weeny little thread of a storyline connected to Kal EL and Krypton but instead of making it something that actually makes sense it's always just something Clarck ignores or worries about with out solving until the last episode where everything goes BOOM. Awesome stuff happens but 2 episodes later Clark is back shovling hay in the barn.
Why did they ruin the Bizarro fight by only showing them throwing a couple of punches? Why not give the boys watching a thrill and let them tear the entire dam into pieces in a huge 5 minute long fist fight?
Gods it's so frustrating. What level of smart do you have to be to make a good manuscript and a direction of a season?
Why did they return Lana? She's old news, they've broken up and got together again how many times? Why didn't they just keep her in China? Or let her make her war on the Luthors but let it be in the background only revealing that she's alive in the last episodes of the season?
Why do they even use Louise Lane? She has these infinitly small scenes but she just storms about the place hooking up with people and making an ass out of her sister.
Why is Lex Luthor such a srewjob? One minute he's a mastermind in control of every aspect of america, the next he's a bumbling fool not even able to protect himself. Some consistency here would be nice, he should be removed only shown as a driving force behind luthor schemes and instead Clark should have a director of the smallville/Metropolis division to battle with.
And what is up with Kara Kent? What is the need for another super person? So that we can see Clarks powers develop all over again as summery of season 1-6?
I'm going to keep watching because at some point Clark is going to start to fly. He'll create some kind of disguise (OH PLEASE GOD LET HIM USE A MASK AND NOT A JERRYCURL ON HIS BROW). And he'll leave Smallville.
If the show isn't cancelled before the season finale, I hope they jump in time, having him disappear for 5 years and show up after extensive travels and meditation in the fortress.
Rant over.

The girl who plays Kara, grew up in the house behind mine when I was a kid.

I don't watch the show.

Over the last season or so the inconsistencies have been starting to show, especially with Lex - I can see what the writers are trying to do (create a situation where we aren't sure if he's actually changed or not), but they don't do it very well.
I agree that Lois Lane feels a bit superfluous at times - she and Chloe tend to share screen time, and to be honest I much prefer the later. It was noticeable in the beginning of Season 7 that the spotlight was moving from C to L, and I wasn't liking it.
Season 7 did not start out well at all. Normally the first and last couple of episodes in a season are particularly good, but the Bizarro and associated dam disaster stuff really didn't work very well at all. I kind of like that Lana is a much darker character now (although I still feel how she got to be that way wasn't done very well), but to be honest the first few episodes had me watching through my hands as I desperately sought a way to escape excrutiation. That Miss Sweetcorn thing was just poor, and don't even get me started on the 'earthquakes'. However, the season picks up slightly in the later episodes...and they've left it on a cliffhanger for the moment, which worked quite well I thought.

I have only seen season 1-4 and maybe most of 5.
He should have been 18 or close to 18 at season 4 (he graduated highschool)...season 7 would make him 20-21 range maybe 22...
right?? he is old and needs to get a job or join the military...maybe commit suicide
edit: the actor is in his early or middle 30's i believe and I think that is funny

Exactly what I was thinking. Isn't it about time for him to go to college? If not don the cape, fly to Metropolis, and take a job at the Daily Planet?

I switched off the player when they started the episode where Clark is hit by lightning and his powers were transferred to Lana. I've seen 3 different versions of that on Louis and Clark and the idea has always blown.

Like I wrote above, I hope they fast forward, and show him returning after five years or something.
I also hope (OH DEAR SWEET LORD LET THEM SEE COMMON SENSE!) that they rewamp his super outfit. Loose the cape, I hate capes they are so fifties, they only look good on the 300, and give him a facemask. They could explain it by superman always having a crystal on him that lets him change his apperance or something.
Anyway something has got to change but it's just not credible that he doe all the crap he does and isn't found out.

I used to watch the show on and off. I've given up completely now. It's just too painfully stupid to watch. Every character is the mental equivalent of a retarded monkey.

See, I don't particularly mind the costume - I think it's iconic and it would fit well, especially given the homages and stuff they've stuck in throughout the series. But I do wish they'd start to join the dots up to the other mythology soon, there are too many filler episodes.
I agree that too many people have heard of Clark Kent for him to be able to maintain his anonymity like he seems to be able to do. Lex at least should have put the pieces together by now - given how much weirdness Lana was able to uncover when she was looking for it.

Anybody else watch the season finale? Weak!!! What the hell... I mean its supposed to be a tense cliffhanger type episode but it was so predictible it wasn't even funny, and whats this I hear that next season will be Lana-less (not too bothered about that though she is hot) and Lex-less (smallville with no Lex Luthor what!) I think they should have brought this to an end a while ago.
WARNING SPOILERS
The Clark Lex confrontation at the end, 2 minutes before the credits, was a huge anti-climax and was over so quickly. The dialogue between the two characters was explanatory material, rather than character development. Clark could have used is eye-beams, super-breath, rock-throwing ability, super speed to disarm Lex. Instead he stands like a garden ornament and watches him place the traveller controlling device into the control panel. Clark officially is mentally retarded, well done writers. The fortress collapses, why? I thought the device was supposed to protect mankind, not kill the man using it.
The fact that Clark still stops before a confrontation giving his nemisis the chance to fight is stupid. The fact that Chloe can hack the world in 5 seconds is stupid. The fact that characters are constantly written in to be killed off is stupid. The fact that this episode was 50/50 Jimmy/Clark was stupid. The fact that Lex has left the show is stupid.
The show has passed it. There shouldn't be a season 8, the show should have ended after season 5. Season 7 was a waste of time and it's production money. What annoys me is that if there is a season 8, all DRAMATIC story cliffhangers will be resolved very quickly. Now there is something to look forward to. Remember how Season 5 built up to the coming of Zod, then in the next episode Zod was quickly beaten. Remember bizarro? Hypnotised Clark? red Kryptonite Clark?

Am I the only one that it bugs that Clark can NEVER become superman on this show? Too many people have been saved by him, or know him well as a guy who does heroic acts, exactly what Clark Kent isn't supposed to be. There isn't any way fvor him to become Superman with a secret identity. Maybe if they used some ridiculous, over the top completely unbelieveable plot device in the series finale, but come on.
Finale Spoilers
What about the fact Clark destroys Brainiac by using exactly what Braniac was there for!
This show has jumped the shark, but good lord Kara is hot.

I've only recently started watching Smallville seriously over the last few weeks, before that I used to sometimes catch a episode now and then on ITV2.
I've got the last episode still to watch from Season 2 then I'll be onto Season 3. Decided to buy the DVDs as I hate watching episodes out of sequence and missing the overall story and history. So far I must say I really like how they changed things from the standard Superman, and given green kryptonite a bigger role, and shown Lex as a more rounded character as he struggles to try and do right, but always getting rebuffed etc. Gotta admit, its gotten addictive for the moment.
Though I have read a few comments above, (tried to avoid most as I don't want to spoil the future episodes for myself), I really do hope they don't mess it up with trying to drag it out and weakening the ideas, plot etc.

I've found it to be quite enjoyable, though there are definite lulls in some of the later seasons. Can't remember which ones exactly. But then just when i'd get to the point of saying "this is getting annoying" they'd pull out a decent story and I'd stick with it.
It's certainly much easier to watch in bursts. I used to fastforward large chunks of Clark-Lana dialogue, and that made all the difference to me.
But I agree with you, I like the way they've dealt with the Superman story, especially considering how constrained they are by the existing movies and various licensing/copyright agreements. Still it's enjoyable.

Oh don't get me wrong. The first... 3... 4, maybe even 5 seasons are good. Really entertaining and funny to watch because of all the fun the writters were having playing around with the superman lore.
Then it becomes utterly stupid because the writters no longer tries to go off the beaten path and instead of developing the story they begin going in cirkles.
I just looked up the show on Wikipedia and it appears that the creators finally left the show in disgust. Sounds like there might be a 9th season though.

I watched the first couple of seasons, but really, it was verging on poor then. From the trailers of the latest seasons, I'm surprised anyone watches it anymore. It bears about as much relation to Superman as Anakin does to Darth Vader in the 'Muppets-do-Starwars' prequels.

What kind of series do you normally watch. Because in the Buffy, Angel, True Calling, Supernatural, etc genre, it's pretty damn good. The writting just sucks balls now a days.
It was a really impressive series when it came out with a gigantic budget and great special effects. If you'd watched the original Superboy series you'd learn to appreciate this version

Smallville just seems to use the Superman name and mythology and tries to make a sort of X-Files/Buffy series. It doesn't relate to the Superman films I've seen in any way, and messes with the material in order to make long seasons out of it. If it had ditched the Superman bit, and come up with an original concept, they could have run for longer without retreading all the same, limited storylines. Or, stuck with the Superman part a bit more faithfully, and come up with something a bit less Buffy and more Superhero worthy.
Its probably ok, I just got bored with it fairly early on, and the trailers don't make it look worth watching. Clark running at 'superspeed' is a truly crappy special effect.
What was Superboy?
I liked Buffy and X-Files; more recent series I think have been good - Firefly, 24, Heroes... must be a few more.

Smallville did have a tendency to stretch things with lots of Kryptonite person of the week storylines in the early seasons, but when they got round to the finales/season openers they were usually pretty good (although the Season 6 opener was very weak). I stopped watching midway through Season 6 because they had started twisting the characters' motivations too much, especially Lex's. However, I did catch a couple of eps. of Season 7 a while back and actually enjoyed them quite a bit. Might go back and take another look at some point.
