Agreed. I pretty much hated OST, but B&B was...well, "enjoyable" isn't exactly the right word, but it's a good showcase for ICE's strengths (setting and mood.)

Pre-ordered Tower Lord and bought American Elsewhere and Honor's Knight. As soon as I get my new audible credits I'm going to get Half A King and, hopefully, the Causal Angel (not sure if it will be released on audible when it is on kindle).

Went and preordered the Tor edition of Assail from Book Depository just now.

Last week, I found James Enge's This Crooked Way on the clearance rack at Half Price Books for $2, to complete my collection of the original Morlock Ambrosious "trilogy". Looking forward to digging in to those (hopefully) soon.

I wanted to wait till CIBOLA BURN came out in large trade paperback (like the other three Expanse books are) so it looked the same on my shelf as the others...but now my fear is that it will go from hardcover straight to SMALLER trade paperback...so I caved and bought it. The upswing of that is I get to read it now instead of six months from now. So, win?

The HPB sale continues, so I picked up ELVEN STAR (second book of the Death Gate cycle). I said was not going to continue the series, but some of the stuff from book 1 was so interesting I have decided to be magnanimous and give it a second shot.

I read the Death Gate Cycle many years ago. I sort of remember it being a fanboy pick up after reading the Dragonlance books (I read either the Darksword or Rose of the Prophet series around the same time too). IIRC there are some decent ideas in the series and a few really cool parts, but it doesn't elevate itself much beyond what Hickman was writing previously.

It's a notch above the Dragonlance series in terms of writing style, but not well above. In short, it could be a fun read but don't expect huge amounts of depth or anything. IMO, a reasonable escape/little thinking read if you are looking for one. Somewhat surprised this is a buy and not a library pickup as my local library has the entire series.

Just about done with Brent Weeks "Night Angel" trilogy myself. Enjoying it so far and planning on looking into his next series after I am done.

Its not a first class series but I always felt Dragon Wings and even more so that Elven Star is amongst the weakest of the series, with especially Fire Sea and Serpent Mage amongst the stronger. The later two I still remember pretty clearly more then one and a half decade later, not least because they where rather grim. Thought that was in a time when I wansn't that accustomed to gray morality and grim in my fantasy...how times have changed.

I managed to pick up Stephen R Donaldson's Gap Cycle for a tenner.

Also discovered a late 70's edition of the first Thomas Covenant trilogy and the original Dune trilogy with Bruce Pennington covers hiding in the bookshelf that's been in the house for 20 years. There all pretty yellowed but otherwise pristine. Think my dad bought them in 70s and just never got to reading them.
