An acquaintance of mine on LibraryThing had two copies of SKIN GAME, and surprised me by sending me one. Just got it in the mail yesterday, but I'm trying to hold of starting it until I finish THE LAST DARK (almost done!)
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

I have resolved to buy the Gaunt's Ghosts books as I find them, regardless of order, at secondhand bookstores. So on that note:
TRAITOR GENERAL
HIS LAST COMMAND
THE ARMOUR OF CONTEMPT
BLOOD PACT
TRAITOR GENERAL
HIS LAST COMMAND
THE ARMOUR OF CONTEMPT
BLOOD PACT
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

A Dance of Shadows by David Dalglish. Read the past three since the books have been re-released under Orbit and have been thoroughly enjoying them. Not as in-depth or massive as other fantasy series' but its hard to hate on medieval assassin novels.

Yah, it was better than A Feast For Cows but not quite as good as the one-two punch of A Rash On Kings and A Storm of Rain.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Worry I've gotten to the point where I don't even know if your being sarcastic or you just don't have a clue what your saying lol. Either way you totally confuse me to the point where I don't know to whether to laugh or to shake my head.

A Storm of Rain is the best, I think
How can you doubt the sincerity and acuity of Worry in light of this?

HiddenOne. You son of a bitch. You slimy, skulking, low-posting scumbag. You knew it would come to this. Roundabout, maybe. Tortuous, certainly. But here we are, you and me again. I started the train on you so many many hours ago, and now I'm going to finish it. Die HO. Die. This is for last time, and this is for this game too. This is for all the people who died to your backstabbing, treacherous, "I sure don't know what's going on around here" filthy lying, deceitful ways. You son of a bitch. Whatever happens, this is justice. For me, this is justice. Vote HiddenOne Finally, I am at peace.

Blood Song (DUN DUN DUNNNNN!!!!)
By Anthony Ryan.
Who I'm firmly convinced is the secret agent in all those terrible Tom Clancy movies. Like Hunt for Red October.
I'll let you guys know what I think, but goodreads is also suggesting 'The Thousand NAmes' by Django Wexler. Anyone read that one? Thoughts?

I never managed to finish Blood Song. Vaelin was far too Kvothe for comfort, being the best swordsman in an Order of stellar warriors. Every bad situation was solved fairly quickly, with al Sorna coming out on top and on the high ground. And naturally he is a really honourable soul to boot. Granted, I stopped when they impregnated the impregnable fortress, and I've heard that the ending is likely to explain a few things. But I'm not sure I want to find out...

Different strokes for different folks I guess?
I could not put the book down once it got properly going.

Cibola Burn. I'm a bit disappointed it's a hardcover cause now it doesn't match the tradepaperbacks.

I partially agree with your sentiment. I finished the book, and found it exciting in a sort of popcorn, action movie kind of way. However, it was an incredibly predictable collection of overused fantasy tropes. Vaelin has no personality. He is the honourable super killer we encounter everywhere in the genre, and there's nothing setting him apart from any of the others, Kvothe included. He always makes the right choice. Always the honourable choice. If I were to write an essay of the use of mary sue characters in fantasy, Vaelin would be a perfect example.

Glad it wasn't just me... I didn't finish it either, I just found that there was absolutely nothing new there, and a lack of any sort of interesting style or... anything at all that made me want to continue. It's like someone took the absolute baseline 'boy to warrior' story and decided to write the first ever version.
Having read the blurb for Tower Lord, I think I'll be giving that a miss too.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.
