First time poster as well,

I thought there was also a possibility that Quick was also pulling from Shadowthorne as well or had Shadowthorne with him per say.
Using the same information that he appears to be more than he seems, that he has become "nastier", that its mentioned several times that he is stick thin, his voice is higher pitched which if I am not mistaken are all Shadowthorne traits.
He made a deal with Shadowthorne and gods only knows how deep that goes and if I am not mistaken didn't Cotillion mentioned that Shadowthorne was more insubstantial than normal?

Also with Quick being a High Priest of Shadow it was mentioned by Mael that Altars are traps to entrap gods. Also there was some fear if I remember correctly about what could happen to Shadowthorne and Cotillion in the war and I would not put it past ST to hid a bit of himself with the rest of the souls.

All speculation as well but the higher pitched voice, boney like arms were mentioned more than once and if Hood and Shadowthorne are aligned he could be pulling from both which would explain the changes in his power level and the physical traits.

Anyway, i reckon QB would never allow ST to "possess" him, no matter how small that possession was. And likewise i think ST hates QB too much to want to do that...

QB burned his Holy Vestments of Shadow, and ST was pissed at him in GotM, but I think they've both mellowed out some as they worked together much more civilly in Bonehunters...

Ex Priest I believe but he did what none other had which was to survive. He did however make a deal with Shadowthorne in order to save his sister and to my knowledge as he has done a bunch so far I do not think it is entirely done or else Quick would not have stayed within Shadow itself.

There were just numerous mentions of Quick's voice being higher pitched and mentioning of his arms which was not evident in the other books and as I said I do believe that the high pitch cackling was something Shadowthorne did.

Also now that I think about it I believe the last time Shadowthorne was seen putting Kalam into the House he was tottering around like an old man which also is a description that Quick was being described as.

I agree that having a possession could be a stretch but perhaps it is aspects of the entities controlling the warrens that he is drawing power off of which would explain the increase in the power he is wielding. *shrugs*

I just cannot think of another reason why it would be pointed out as such. Will just have to wait for the next book or two and hope they do not take as long as the next Martin one.

why cant they both be skinny cacklers? being skinny is not an uncommon trait in Malaz/Seven Cities. Desert, no? also, ST is an old man, much older than QB.

I took that to be a general thing in the ongoing conflict against the CG.

I agree with Abyss' assertion, it is a deal in which to bring the CG down. I don't think it is for QB, and any petty whims of his.

I have to say that I did not read every post in this thread because I felt that my theory behind this must be heard. Throughout the series we have gotten the knowledge that souls contain power. QB has 12 of them (at least that is). So, how did his power increase so dramatically? Also in the series we have learned that blood contains a huge amount power.

Question: So what is more powerful than a body with 12 souls in it?

Answer: A body with 12 LIVING people inside of it.

When I say living, I mean that they all are truely alive but not in their body that they were born in. Reading about Hedge gave me this idea. When Hedge entered the broken and discarded Jaghut warren that the Ben. Imass came to live in, he came back to life. He bleed like a human. He breathed like a human. He was a ghost that came back to life. Thus on that same line of thinking, why couldn't the souls inside of QB come back to like?

If Quick has gotten a power boost from ST, then wouldn't his body still only allow him to channel up to a certain amount of power anyway?
Since we've seen he can "max" himself out, then wouldn't a power boost be unnecessary since he can already channel to his limit without it?

His fight with Icarium did something to him, stretched him, maybe made him go a little mad? Hence the cackling.

Quick Ben is quite powerful - the only being we saw him lose to - ever! - was Icarium, and he's really something.

What confounds me is why he would fight the sisters in the first place? He knew Silchas Ruin was coming, so why not stand back and watch the fight and then join with his favorite side, if need be?

He didn't know when Ruin would be there. And I have a feeling that Quick was spoiling for a challenge then. He wanted to see what he was really able to accomplish with his new nastiness.
