Ascendant Duel: Karsa v. Rake

Just for shits and giggles and because I love polls. I'd say Karsa for sure, he has a lust for life *cue Iggy Pop* , whereas Rake, while awesome in so many ways, just isn't all that interested.

Ummm Rake IMO has the advantage due to Magic, being an Eleint Soletaken...
and umm his soul stealing sword... that will kill with one little slice...
Karsa is a great fighter, but its mostly because of brute strength, Determination, magic resistance ect... he gets cut up all the time... he just heals fast...one little slice from Rake and its game over... not to mention just how many blast of SD could he survive if rake wanted to get no where near him....

all very good points...on paper Karsa is screwed, but he's not your ordinary Toblakai...remember the line in Bonehunters from that Destriant? A warren unto himself IIRC (and I do)...He's shrugged off Elder magic before (see the pre-coital rescue of Aramala in HoC) and he just doesn't quit. If these two faced off with intent, it's either Karsa kills Rake or they both die, IMO. I could see Karsa hurling that sword of his as he gets hit with the killing blast of Starvald Demelain

Karsa is an ascendent now?
I would still go for Karsa, due to his penchant for completely ignoring the "usual" rules of a fight.

I think this will turn into a popularity contest, and Karsa will loose
The fight would be more interesting if Rake was in his soletaken form. Karsa would just shrug off the sorcerous attacks and let Rake snap his jaws shut around the warrior, stone sword sliding up to lodge in the Eleint's brain, leaving a chewed up barbarian still alive, crawling out of the beast.
No, wait! Rake could grab Karsa with his mighty claws. Then the Teblor would break them off one by one, climb up on his back and hack/tear off one of the wings (assuming Rake actually needs them to fly). Beast and barbarian would then crash into a city of your choice in a spectacular display of destruction, and in the aftermath Karsa would crawl up to Rake's head and (Witness!) pull a Killmandaros on his sorry face.
Ooh! Even better! Rake could cut up Karsa, who would then go apeshit inside Dragnipur, destroying everything. And while the apocalypse closes around them all, the barbarian is choking the last breath from the Lord of Moon's spawn. "Try to chain me will you?"
...
Why do you ask anyway?
Are Karsa and Rake going to meet in TtH?
What do you know?

The leader, his audience still,
considered their scholarly will.
He lowered his head
and with anguish he said,
"But how will we teach them to kill?"

I dont think Dragonspur could be ignored...
Karsa might be able to win, but even sword to sword, Rake doesnt have to mortally wound him, just scratch... even Rhulad stabbed Karsa... Rake is a great swordsman, fast ect... maybe with out Dragonspur I would change my mind, but that is an almost unbeatable advantage on rakes part...

Neither, as they end up sitting down and discussing the various high and low points of human empire.
But I think Rake is perfectly capable of getting angry, albeit a cold anger, and if that were to happen, Karsa go byebye I reckon.
Close fight though.

Hahah this is an interesting poll for me
I dislike both of these characters, so it cancels out hahah
Well yes Karsa is a crazy strong Toblakai warrior, a "warren unto himself" but......Rake is well Rake. A ridiculously powerful Eleint Ascendant. In many ways, Rake was similar to Karsa when he was younger. Rake would go around finding strong opponents and wasting them. Plus Rake has Dragnipur, and knows how to use it. I think it would be a close close race, but Rake would pull it through.

Hmm, the way I always read it, it did have to be a mortal wound for a soul to be captured by Dragnipur. Did I miss something?

Thought he snatched one of the hounds up with just a slice...
I might be wrong... can any one prove it one way or the other?? Quote??

Gardens of the Moon...one of the Hounds Rake 'killed' had only a scratch on the shoulder

edit: quote...
Quote
Paran saw that one Hound had been nearly decapitated, while the
other had been sliced across its broad chest – it did not look like a killing
wound, but the creature’s eyes, one blue the other yellow, stared sightlessly
skyward.

I think he did, but I also think that was a GotMism, or even something from an early draft that wasn't edited in the final version (he impaled the demon bloke to do it, later on).

Is Traveller is Dassem, Steve fucked up his facts:p Plus I'll owe Mandy a pint, and I don't have that kind of money spare

but everything to do with your stubborn thick-headedness and there's nothing about Traveller being Dassem that results in Steve having 'fucked up his facts'. If you have a useful series of quotes to support this lunatic opinion, by all means post them, it's my thread, I can derail it if I want to

As for owing Mandy, (is that Anomander? if so, which one? the admin or the mod? (as a sidenote, one of those two should have stood down to avoid confusion, IMO)...You had to know that was a bad bet...and if not, well, you shouldn't ever gamble

If I can be arsed to search for any of the 5 or 6 other times I've posted the quotes, I'll do it later, after finishing coursework.
They're both admins now, anyway;)
