There's an Azath on every continent? Is that the specific wording?

I thought they just popped up where needed... I doubt that the Azath of Lether will return cause I think it's seed was Kettle and so the treehouse is now situated in SD.

I think it's necessary for an Azath to be on every continent.
But unless i've misinterpreted and dreamed I believe that is almost an exact quote.

The deadhouse azath was used by ST and Cot to ascend into shadow, it was shown inside shadow in NoK, but I don't know if that specifically means it's aspected to shadow.

All in all I'm not to sure that the theory that all azath's have an aspect holds true.

Apt: "The deadhouse azath was used by ST and Cot to ascend into shadow, it was shown inside shadow in NoK, but I don't know if that specifically means it's aspected to shadow."

well it would be in shadow wouldn't it? "They all cast shadows"
There's a fine line between genius and insanity. I have erased this line.

speaking of azath, what was the thing in GotM that helped to defeat Raest? Was that an azath in physical form?

What "thing"? Do you mean the Azath that for some reason grew out of/around Raest finnest?

Or are you talking about Tool in the Kruppes dreamscape?

I thought there was some big crazy fight (been awhile since GotM read) near the end where some big entity helped paran fight raest. Maybe it was Tool and I didnt' get it at the time. I thought it was a physical manifestation of the azath fighting raest.

Paran didn't really fight Raest iirc. Raest was confronted by K'rul and the Imass bonecaster Pran Chole in Kruppe's dreamscape... by the dragons from Moon's Spawn (but not Anomander Rake)... and finally met his match in the BridgeBurners when he possessed Crokus' uncle (sp?). Quick Ben and the female Daru mage (from Baruk's cabal) helped

I think Paran was off looking for Adjunct Lorn at the time

firstly, in NoK, we know are told that the Shadow realm "wandered" over the Deadhouse--and since it's just a fragment of KE, that makes sense. so it doesn't mean that the deadhouse is Shadow-aspected, just that that one night (the shadow moon) it was. essentially it was kinda like realm of Shadow (piece of KE?) manifesting itself on Malaz island.
secondly, im not too sure about the aspects myself, but ti's been brought up before, including the books (MoI in particular)
Thirdly, i believe Raest fought Tool and Paran in GoTM. That was when Paran first veered). I believe we see it thru somebody's (possibly Nom's?) POV. as the fight ends, Raest is taken in by the roots of the Azath that grew from his Finnest.

I believe the fight you are referring to between Paran, Tool and someone else - that someone else was the physical manifestation of Raest's finnest. They had to fight it to give the Azath time to grow - that is why it was made of wood - Raest's finnest was an acorn.
And yes - the deadhouse isn't, as far as we know, Shadow-aspected. It was only because of the Shadow Moon.
I think it was mentioned by Cottillion in DG (or something), that it was possible that there was an Azath for everything - even time, memories, birds... And that this was why he and ST ascended - they needed more time to map them all.

Hmmm, ditto on the last part.. in fact, i think we'll argue ourselves to death trying to prove to each other who actually "won"....

tbh I don't think there's any doubt that so much will be left in the air after the final book, there will be a lot most people don't understand.

But the Cult in it's fervent glory will not be among these, the Cult knows almost all :hume:

On the bright side there will be a lot we will understand and come to understand in the future

The deadhouse is aspected to Death. That is mentioned at some point in the books... Altho Im not sure where. Could Iccy be planning on actually becoming a new Azath? One to replace the dead one in Letheras (question, what could that one be aspected to? I suspect its the one aspected to time, which might relate to Iccy's machine) The fact that he exists outside time might gives him, in his rare moments of clarity, some precognitive ability. Im just wondering what he needed the souls for... Maybe to construct a timeline for Letheras or something. After all, we know the Azath are aware, maybe they were once living beings? Could it be possible that the Finnest of Raest, which seemed to be aware, took up the position of the House's mind? Sorry. Ill shut up now.

Lisheo- plans on becoming the Azath Of Stupid Theories!

Ok, I just had a thought about Iccy's machine and my dire need to see Trull reborn somehow.

[Crazy theory]
Trull was killed but, like spirits tend to do in Lether, he lingers. Trull's spirit gets sucked up with all the other spirits / memories. He lives on in Iccy somehow, or maybe iccy's machine was supposed to be a resurrect-a-tron
[/crazy theory]

Sort of dependent on when trull died. Did he die before or after the machine's activation. I can't remember.

He was either not even in Lether, or engaged in torrid sexual relations with Seren at the time Iccy went K'rulic. Open to a "Did Burn move for you too?" joke as well.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

nice. very nice.

thanks.

So back to iccy's machine

[cerveza theory]

Quote

Fiddler: '...Is that your vow Mappo? To keep the Jhag ignorant?
Mappo: 'Ignorant of the past, yes. His past.
Fiddler: '...Without history there's no growth-'
Mappo: 'Aye.'

(DG, UK MMPB, p.459)

So I was pissing away some time on encyclopedia malazica and this bit between mappo and fid got me thinking about the machine and its purpose again.

Kind of confirms to me that Iccy was trying to build something to fuse his memory circuit and become whole rather than just making an ascension machine. He's so time obsessed because on some level he knows that he will be lost forever (no growth without history) if he can't find some way to give himself a point of reference in the universe. There are other machines of course, like the one in Darujistan, but this is the only one that's done what it's supposed to. It might also explain why his memory seemed to partially gel in the days leading up to his activation of the machine. I picture a situation 100,000 years ago where Iccy says, "ok, I'm gonna build this and then take a walk, and of course totally forget about it, but I'll put something into it that makes me attracted to it once I wander nearby again in the future (the effect of his memory gelling)". He has similar recognition when he walks by another one of his machines in 7C I think.

He looked to Krul for help but the Elder God was engaged in doing something in his temple, something that obviously left an impact on young Iccy, which he seeks to emulate, according to Bugg in RG, so what could it be? I dont think its the forging of the Imperial Warren...

I have assumed that the machine in Letheras was designed to 'Steal' memories from others at the price of their 'Life'. Iccarium was tired of not having his own memories, so he did the next best thing, steal them from those around him.

Now, Iccy seems like in general a decent soul when not going crazy... so i only wonder if the machine being broken resulted in people being vaporized instead of just taking their momories.
