Man, potentially we could have to play all the english teams to lift the trophy for the sixth time.
Out of the english teams arsenal would have been my pick, they're fighting to win the league so the in betweeny game is bigger for them.
Would rather have pulled schalke though

The draw is interesting. Liverpool will probably have to play Chelsea in the semis if they get through. I think we can expect good things from Chelsea this year apart from that horrendous Carling Cup final they have played very well recently.

Just in case anyone hasn't seen it.
Well, here's hoping Man U vs Roma brings the same results as the last time we played.

Hope Arsenal beat Liverpool, I've no time for the 'you can't criticise Liverpool's boring performances in Europe because they get results' school of thought, rather see a footballing side like Arsenal through (it will almost inevitably be an inteminable 1-0 win over both legs having said that) Can't see Chelski being undone by Fener' (Turk team not giant pig) Utd might struggle against Roma though, I wonder if Ronaldo will turn up this year?

Didn't Man U beat Roma 7-1 or something last time they played? I hope Liverpool beat Arsenal (just cos I hate Arsenal) I hope Fenerbache beat Chelsea, and if not they will have to play Liverpool/Arsenal, so one of them's going out. I would like to see a Fener vs Man U final.

Utd beat them 7-1 at Old trafford last season having lost away (2-1) at the same stage of the comp.
In this years group stages Utd beat Roma at OT and then drew 1-1 at the Olympico in what was effectively a dead rubber.
I think 7-1 was a freak and Roma aren't going to make the same mistakes twice. Utd should beat them, they are a better side, but I have a feeling for Roma.

Stats schmats, Liverpool in knockout football are a dull team, you can't cover up their dull performances against Inter by saying they scored 3 goals that would ignore the vast void of pure donkey toss that was the first 80 mins of that game. Nor can you cover up the abject pile of seagul minge that was their first 3 games of the CL this season.
If we want to bring stats into this I could tell you that with Benitez in charge Liverpool's goals per game average in knockout CL matches has been 1.3 (rounding up) compared to Man Utds which is 1.9. That doesn't tell you that Man Utd are a superior attacking team (well...they are I'd say, but that's besides the point) on it's own. I'm basing my opinion on watching the games and occasionally nodding off waiting for something to happen.
I bloody hate Arsenal too but I don't think anyone in their right mind would suggest they don't play attractive football compared to Liverpool.

Man U have to be pleased with the draw, and are probably the bookies' favourates to win the competition now. Having beaten Roma over two legs twice in the last year they shouldn't be too concerned with 'em, and Barca's away record this season is shocking.
Loserpool (who haven't won the league since the backpass was outlawed - says it all really) are quite possibly the worst opponents fArcenal could've drawn. I'm not saying they're any good, but their champs' league record shows they can be very effective against superior opposition.
And I still think Chelski will end the season with no silverware. They've a great squad of players, but their team spirit left with José.

So Man Ure score more goals, so what, they must also concede more coz how many finals have they been in since Benitez joined Liverpool ... er yep NONE !
What's dull about making finals ? Still I hope Man Ure are beaten by Roma in two memorable 20 goal quater finals as Liverpool march on to win the trophy for the SIXTH time.

Well you're actually backing my point up Grumble, I was saying stats don't tell the story so they were pointless.
What's dull about making finals? Well, the way they got there is the dull part...I'm not sure why this is difficult to understand. No one is saying that boring teams can't win and I'm sure Liverpool fans would take boring football ad nauseum if they won the league playing negative football. However, if you believe that anyone is going to praise a team simply for winning badly then you're mistaken.
If you read the original post I said I don't subscribe to the win at all costs school of thought, I don't condone it in Rugby or Footy, I'd be a hypocrite if I said I wouldn't take Man Utd winning badly now, but I wouldn't be happy about it in the long run if it was the teams philosophy as it has become with Benitez's side.
The response that they win things is an entirely moot point, and has no relevance to the statement I made which boils down to: "I hope a side playing boring football never ever wins anything ever again"

That would be a sweet victory! Beating them at both. But the last few seasons it has seemed that Man U haven't been able to do two things at once... *sigh* I wish it was back to the golden days of winning the Treble.

I meant domestically. Besides, the current Celtic side is, imho, the weakest they've had in quite a few years. I don't rate Rangers much, and they're 3 points clear of 'em with a game in hand.

This is the first time in years I've felt really confident that we can win it, as opposed to hopeful. Of course that rests on Rooney being fit, because we won't win without a striker, but hey. The rest of our squad is as good as anyone. Roma is a potential banana skin, but we've already beat them this season.
Liverpool are a worry because of the form Gerrard and Torres have hit, but I still think they're weaker than us and Chelsea. Arsenal have squad worries, I don't think they'll do it.
Barcelona don't scare me. The aura of invincibility isn't there anymore. Our defence is better than theirs and I'm not sure their attack is better than ours either.
