Well, at this point you're only buying it in theory.

There was an expected release date, but nothing definite.

Why have people assumed the book won't be delivered? We've seen the artwork he's working on, and apparently that's the only thing delaying it.

I expect to get the book, but come on Brood, it has taken just a "little" while longer than we were led to believe. I know they have a good track record....but come on man.

I call shenanigans. I don't think they should have started selling pre-orders so far in advance. But, if the artwork is as good as expected, I suppose it will all be worth it in the end.

The artwork already looks awesome...and if this is what it takes to make sure the following Limited Editions come out smoother and quicker...fine. But don't start taking money until you have a hard shipping date.

At this rate he's taking longer to do the artwork than SE is to write the books.

This is the nature of the small press. Most of them charge in advance and then print the books as soon as they can. SubPress is actually pretty good about their wait times, but I'd prefer if they didn't charge up front.
To give you an idea of how long these things can take:
The SubPress version of 'Fevre Dream' by George R.R. Martin was announced in March 2004 and delivered in January 2008.
The Cemetary Dance edition of 'Legacies' (an anthology with King, Bradbury, Straub, Barker, etc.) was announced almost 10 years ago and still hasn't been published.

Of course, I'm not saying that this kind of delay is going to happen here, but if they're waiting on the art, there's nothing they can really do to speed it up. Also, I don't think a longer wait time now will necessarily mean the next books come out faster (since the hold-up seems to be the art).

I think this information just made a lot of people cry. 10 years? wow.

Sorry, I didn't mean to bring anyone's hopes down.
Those are just the two examples that I know of for small press books that took way longer than expected. There are also a lot of good examples of books coming out on time. The SubPress versions of "The Lies of Locke Lamora" and "Red Seas Under Red Skies" both came out on time, along with the other 50 or so books they published last year.
In fact, I'd say SubPress is one of, if not the best small press out today. They put out a ton of quality content from great authors and artists, their prices aren't (too) high (comparatively), and they keep their customers informed about what's going on. Not to mention their online magazine that has new content including short stories, audiobooks, etc.
If you guys are really worried, send Bill an email. He's pretty good about keeping his customers happy. Like I said before though, if the hold up is the artwork, there's nothing he can really do about it.

Just think, the series could be over before this book is delivered.

And RLY seems to be the only one to really care... ironic, seeing as he hasn't even ordered the book

I have personally given up and said all that can be said. I am just upset that all this means I have to wait 10 years before I get my hands on a Memories of Ice edition:(

It is a little strange that I'm taking as much interest i this as I am. I never claimed to make sense though.

You're just don't want to admit that you bought the damn thing RLY. You'll feel better if you just come clean, I promise :GA:

QUOTE (Stalker @ Jan 23 2009, 01:09 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
So last night I was walking downtown for some pizza at like 1am with some friends of mine,
and someone said, "I'm so hungry I could eat a whole pizza."

I said, "I bet I could eat 100 pizzas," and no one understood me. I was sad.

I did no such thing. If I wanted to pay money for a book I won't see for years, I'd pre-order GRRM's new book.

Relax, guys!

You've already seen some of the art, and the rest is on its way. No reason to be alarmed at all. . .

Don't drink the Kool-Aid! Doom! Woe! Destruction! All this will come before your book!

~RLY, figures if I can't have my TtH, at least I can try to make others who are waiting for a book miserable. :D

I second Jen's feelings. Not worried, more like irritated.

Don't have sympathy for you Xander, not now that you've got TtH and I don't. As soon as that gets here though, I promise to feel bad for you guys again.
