I reckon Penn will turn up fat as fuck using the weight class as an excuse to walk around 10lb over his fighting weight, he is a big man for a lightweight so that isn't an issue but they rarely carry their punches up a class, although he's fought there before. It's really the only match left for GSP though.
I'm not into BJ (oh er missus!) I hate the fact that he talks like a cross between Hank Hills vietnamese neighbour Con and Screech.
Of course it has the potential to be a truly great fight. Last time was inconclusive at best. A lot of people thought BJ won, though I am not among these. Not making excuses, but GSP got eye-poked in the first round, talked about seeing 3 BJ's and not always swinging at the real one and I believe him so it's no surprise that he took him down and played the safe game after that. The simple fact is that BJ was not able to prevent GSP from holding him down. They're both improved, BJ is refocussed, but I think GSP has improved more. I think Fitch's post-fight comments are telling - he was supposed to be the workhorse that would come in and grind GSP down, work ethic over natural gifts, but he said GSP has a strength and quickness in his hips that cannot be trained, basically admitting the guy has superior genetics. I don't think Penn will be able to defend the takedown effectively and GSP finishes via ground and pound TKO or unanimous decision. I love watching BJ fight but he belongs at lightweight, imo. I think he'll get mauled, tbh. GSP has made his last few opponents look like awkward children - he hurled Matt Hughes around like a toy - that trip, going immediately into side control, was awesome. I think GSP is just too strong and explosive for BJ, barring a lucky punch or awesome sub. I see GSP taking BJ down at will and pulling out of any sub attempts. Also, i think people continue to underestimate GSP's striking because of Serra's lucky punch and GSP learning how to wrestle in record time, becoming the best functional wrestler in MMA by many people's estimation. THAT is athleticism folks. Wrestling is nothing in Canada so he had zero background in it and now he's schooling 'decorated' wrestlers left and right at their own game
I was pleased he stood with Fitch a bit, as it was getting to be a bit of a worry. Sure, BJ made his face look like hamburger last time, but I think it will be different this time
I'm not going to say it was all due to the eyepoke, but I think it was certainly a factor. Anybody know their respective reach?
