What is a more interesting question is who do they put JDS up against next? The top Heavy Weights are either already billed for a fight or he has fought.

Lets see if we can use some logic....

Possible Opponents (/top heavy weights)(not particular ranking order)

1. Overeem: Maybe if he loses at 156

2. Big Foot Silva: Maybe if he loses at 156
(with these fights being in February that would put JDS out till May-Aug sometime next year and I expect a faster turn around

3. Werdum: Maybe if he loses to Nog (Not fighting Nog until June, so not a likely match up)

4. Frank Mir: Already defeated by JDS and no fight planned. I don't think it's likely unless someone covers down for an injury

5. Daniel Cormier*: Next fight January 12th ... so Maybe... I could see this fight coming together, regardless of if Cormier wins or loses.

6. Josh Barnett: Next fight January 12th ... so Maybe... I could see this fight ect ect.

7. Cheick Kongo: Very Possible... A step down in competition, but Kongo is a perennial top Heavy Weight who is 4-1-1 in his last 6 fights... As far as I know he is not scheduled for any fights.

So in Summary my list of possible opponents for JDS (in order of likelihood)
*edit: I think 1 and 2 are interchangeable.
1. Josh Barnett
2. Daniel Cormier
3. Cheick Kongo

Of course with the plethora of injuries hitting the UFC I would not be surprised to see a rematch happen or some other surprising turn of events.

I actually thought the card was better than a lot of the recent UFC ones...it'll certainly bear keeping an eye on when the fighters are more seasoned and the divisions grow.

EDIT: Really enjoyed this fight in particular. Hyatt learned pretty quick after the first round. And Bas Rutten's commentary is always fun.

Boy Nate Marquardt got whooped on. I didn't expect that. He is a great fighter but man he chokes when it counts. I am sure he will still do great at 170 but I don't see him wearing gold again. But I can't wait for some of the possible fights for him now that he will be back in the UFC.

I have to keep an eye on Saffiedine.

Souza should be a great addition to the UFC as well.

Best usage of elbows I've seen in a long long time. Ivan Menjivar did it a while ago against Valencia, but Wiman is a lot better (generally) than Valencia was. I live-tweeted just before Grant got the KO that people don't get how scary TJ Grant is in the cage these days.

He totally flipped a switch in his striking and his grappling is only getting better and better at keeping the top game.

Pettis nuking Cerrone's liver with the body kick was awesome.

I also scored the Lord of the Flies fight (title fight at 125 lbs, or flyweight) 48-47 Johnson. I could see a 47-46 card if you award two 10-8 rounds (one to each with the 2nd round to Dodson for the knockdowns and the 5th to DJ for non-stop kneeing Dodson). It was fun as hell to see those guys still putting out a ferocious pace 20 minutes into the fight.

Hioki got robbed in what's surprisingly still not a Robbery of the Year candidate, despite its atrociousness. Aaron Ely at RFA deserves to be known as the guy who had a concrete win ripped away by idiot judges in 2013. Hioki's walkout to Moonlight Shadow is so good - I wish we'd seen it on the broadcast. I played it about 6 times during the fight to compensate.

Overeem will destroy Bigfoot Silva and Rashad will outstrike Lil Nog.

And Jose will KO Edgar.

Well, I sure as hell didn't expect Overeem getting his ass handed to him. And Maia pulling a Fitch was a pleasant surprise. I sort of missed a lot of the Edgar/Aldo fight cause Rashad/Nog put me the fuck to sleep.

Also, I've been kind of disappointed in some of Rashad's performances. He just doesn't engage enough.

I wonder what effect the death of Olympic wrestling will have on mma in the long run. More guys coming out of college and going straight to mma? fewer guys wrestling in general and so fewer going in to mma? Who knows.

If Olympic wrestling really does die, then freestyle wrestling dies in the United States after Jordan Burroughs repeats in 2016. The Iranians and Eastern Europeans might carry on a bit for the worlds, but the Russians and the Americans will hop to MMA.

There is a strong chance something like half of the folkstyle college programs in the US die too (if the Olympic training programs close). It's that big.

Wish they could challenge cube the IOC (like at Russian Nationals).

Taking wrestling from the olympics will not really affect MMA.

Wrestling is a discipline. One that has proven to be very effective in the ring. And so people will still want to become proficient in it...so there will still be a demand for it to be taught/practiced. Supple and demand anyone?

I seriously doubt if it will lead to a drop in new people going into to MMA, because it has now built up such momentum as a sport. There is money and fame to be had, and people want some of that.

Sonnen vs Bones? LoL, I cant wait to see Bones handing him his ass. He's a loudmouth idiot and should have retired from the sport after saying he would do so if he got beat by the spider.

Taking wrestling out of the Olympics permanently will essentially mean the near total abandonment of it as a sport worldwide and as a means of earning money and fame. That will negatively affect MMA because the good coaches won't be making enough to supplement the MMA income (usually meager at best) and the practice partners won't be there.

The peopke who would have been wrestling or teaching it will go play sports other than MMA, I suspect.
