In case anybody forgot or didn't know, UFC on versus is tonight in 3 hours from now. On versus in US and on I think rogers sportsnet in Canada. Four awesome free fights. Don't miss it.

I'm on it. Won't watch the DREAM 13 card though - have to be up and rested tomorrow morning.

My picks:

MAIN CARD
Jones, KO Round 2
Dos Santos, KO Round 1
Kongo, decision
Irvin, KO Round 2

UNDERCARD
Guida, decision
Matyushenko, sub Round 2
Elkins, KO Round 1
Roberts, sub Round 1
Pierce, decision
Eric Schafer, decision

HOT FIGHT (for the fantasy contest I'm in)
Schaub, decision

DREAM Picks:

Fernandes, sub Round 3
Barnett, KO Round 2
Noons, decision
Kikuno, decision
Nakahara, decision
Escovedo, decision
Minowa, sub Round 1
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

God damn, I can't beleive UFC 111 is tomorrow..... Any event with GSP fighting usually seems to come real slow for me, but not this time. Can't wait to see him smash Hardys punk ass. If Hardy manages to win I hope I don't get alchohol poisoning, But I think we'll see a nice finish from GSP. Fucking weak that Alves isn't fighting, I was really looking forward to that fight.

WAR GSP!!!

I absolutely agree with all of that. If Hardy wins, it'd be the upset of the year. He's something like a +600 underdog at the moment, I think. Fitch-Alves was a bad-ass fight and I hope whatever problem the CAT scan revealed is cleared up soon. Alves is too young and too talented to be forced out of fighting in such uncontrollable fashion.

Oh, and the UFC on Versus card? Jones is such a bad-ass that I can see him holding the 205 belt and then moving up to heavyweight and taking that too (way down the line). He's just such a good athlete and blessed with instincts that are nigh-upon infallible that his lack of technique isn't a problem.

That Junior Two Saints guy is pretty good too.

If you can, watch the Escovedo-Maeda fight and the Kikuno fight from the DREAM card. Awesome knockouts.

Alves has some sort of brain irregularity, something to do with the blood vessels. He has to have minor brain surgery (if there is such a thing) and should be back to training within 2-3 weeks and will possibly fight in May or June. Hope he comes back 100%.

Yeah Jon Jones is a beast. he broke Veras cheek bone in 3 places I read somewhere. Dana says it will be 3 more fights till he fights for the title since he's so young...... Could be a good thing.

Yeah I watched those 2 fights, very nice. Did you see Duane Ludwigs undercard fight from UFC on VS.? Painful to watch how it ends.

Right now, I think Machida, Shogun, Anderson and possibly Mousasi and Jackson could beat Jones. In a year - with the current rate of improvement, only Machida and Anderson have a shot at winning and I'd favor Jones over them. He's that good, in my eyes.

I don't think it was aired. I saw the picture of the "happening" and went "Uggggghhhhh, not watching that." Ludwig has had so long to put together a ground game and never did so. I speculate that his lack of experience there contributed slightly to that. Hope he can walk alright in a few months.

St. Pierre is so ridiculously dominant at 170. Hardy is top ten for sure, and I'd slot him in at #5 within the UFC. GSP is on a different plane with the takedowns and control. What was impressive as hell was the quickness with which he regained his feet after Hardy reversed a few times (mostly when St. Pierre went for a submission at the end of rounds) and the stunning ability he has to keep shooting in and put people down. Fitch tries to do something similar, but he straight up doesn't have the instincts and sense of the opponent's balance that St. Pierre has.

I'm of the opinion that St. Pierre screwed up on the armbar (hips weren't raised enough) and that the kimura could have been cranked further, but he either didn't want to risk losing position or didn't want to completely ruin Hardy's arm.

And Carwin started Mir's slide into Mike Tyson's "Bolivian".

Paul Harris is so nasty. He's gotta be a grappler's worst nightmare.

the story of the night has to be how Kenny worked Gomi - as with the Nelson/Struve fight I was hoping for an upset but expected more or less exactly what we got. I like Struve and I think he has a lot of potential if and when he fills out but he can't get knocked out like that repeatedly or he'll fade away. Roy Nelson is the true gatekeeper. Gomi was set up to take a fall, which is unfortunate. On a completely different note, WAR ROSS PEARSON! I used to love Ross Pointon from TUF and really Terry Etim is his true successor in terms of incomprehensibility, but I'm officially transferring my 'Ross-love' to Ross Pearson, straight up chasing his dream and doing a good job of it. Good event.

He has filled out some - probably due to the increased income his fighting has brought in. At the weigh-ins, he was 248. He's got room to put on another 20 or 30 pounds of pure muscle. Hopefully he'll get back in the gym, get even bigger and work his boxing - which needs work more than anything else.

So what did yall think about UFC 112,

I didn't see BJ losing, but Edgar did a great job even if you dont agree with the UD win (50-45 is just crazy)

Hughes bagged another Gracie and i was rooting for Renzo

Anderson is able to do something I have never seen an MMA fighter do before, win a fight without even trying... craziness, but he got alot of negative feedback...

Not sure what he is trying to do or prove, but Dana just released that if it happens again he will be cut, now that might just be a bluff but you never know.

Got some good fights this Sat, Hendo VS Shields and King Mo vs Gagard Mousassi, should be interesting...

WTF was Silva doing running around for two rounds, and that after clowning his opponent? He must be on drugs or something. Anyway, fantastic amount of good MMA these last few weeks. I'm even liking the new TUF season.

Sliding on his ass to try and get a takedown was pathetic. 2nd in the world my ass.

Aoki has been butt-scooting for years. He may be the only person in the MMA world for whom it works - and boy, does it work in Japan against lesser caliber opponents. If he improves his striking more (there were signs of it actually doing so in this fight with the knees and the rare punch), he's going to become a tougher and tougher out on the feet, which supplements his good chin well.

Quote

One other thing I noticed - No elbows? Not a single elbow was thrown when they were on the ground. Can someone explain this? [/spoiler]

Elbows on the ground are against the SF rules. Shields was masterful though. Henderson may have been a bit stiff, but there's no denying the talent and skill that it took to actually take him down and keep him down for that long. I think Shields is throwing punches like a Diaz - mostly arm punches and not putting much into it from the core. From mount, he needs to change that up and put a little more rotation and mustard on them. Beautiful single legs though.

@ Bent

in Strikeforce you cant elbow a grounded opponent which is stupid, it takes away a lot of offense from top control and bottom guard. edit: got to it first Amp.. i get the idea behind it to stop fights from being ended by cuts, but its a fight, make it as close to a real fight as possible.

Sucks for Henderson he hasnt been able to bring home the gold in his last 3 tries or so. wonder where he goes from here

From the rumor mill Jake Shields might be done with Strikeforce anyway, i think he is gonna wait to see who offers him the most money between UFC and Strikeforce

I had to miss some of the strikeforce fights because the channel was down, and i think Dana White was behind it
