Corabb

Does anyone have any clues as to why Corabb is unnaturally lucky during his fights? I would assume that it has something to do with Oponn, but what do they want with him?
Were there any indications in The Bonehunters that he picked up anything similar to Crokus' coin? I have only read it once and can't remember details too well. Any other speculations? He can't be that lucky for nothing.

He is the beloved of the Lady or something. He didn't pick anything up - they just chose him for reasons as yet unknown.

He was really lucky in HoC too, when he put his helmet over a Moranth munition. When it went off he flew up in the air, but when he landed he was able to run away.... Now that's lucky. Anyway, from Leoman's conversation with QoD it's quite obvious he's the Lady's chosen.

I dont have the book with me right now,but it was something about his blood making him immune to every disease he has i think.

Has it been stated for sure that Corabb has a link with Oponn? I know it's crystal clear (for example Corabb is shot in the back several times in HoC, each quarrel hits his spear I think - which is Paran's trick with Choice in GotM when he meets the Rhivi), but I can't remember it being explicity stated.

Dont have the book on me, but I think there was an explicit reference in TBH... somewhere around when Corabb's head is getting cooked in his helmet and they are on their way to see the QoD I think. Or maybe the QoD herself says it someplace (when talking to L'oric?).

When Leoman and Dunsparrow fled Y'ghatan, the QoD said she regretted having to miss Oponn's tool (or something like that), but she'd settle for Dunsparrow too, since she was touched by Hood.
That's from memory. I'm lazy too
Now, does anybody think that Corabb deciding to stay behind was influenced by Oponn in some way?

Possibly in a 'not another tool in the hands of a god!' way.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

So I thought I'd make up for all of you lot being too lazy and find the quote myself. It's told from Fiddler's point of view, while underneath Beak's protective dome during the Letherii's magic attack.
I'm not sure if that's a metaphorical cancer or a real one...but either way, sounds just like Oponn's blessing really. Something in the blood, or that could be metaphorical too.

He saw in Corabb Bhilan Thenu'alas the coursing blood that held in it the power to destroy every cancer that struck him, and he was a man under siege from that disease, but it would never kill. Never even sicken him.

Don't look now, but I think there's something weird attached to the bottom of my posts.

Didn't Corabb also have a bag of Morant munitions land in his lap while riding, think they were snakes, and only just chucked 'em before they exploded? Guy walks out uninjured while Ranal is blown up real good. Can't imagine he was able to throw them very far.
Also, DM, I'm pretty sure Paran's sword in GotM was Chance, not Choice.

Hmm, that makes sense. Chance it was.

why isn't every ascendant going after Corabb??
Paran had Chance, Crokus had the coin. They both had something that was connected directly to Oponn, but Corabb doesn't. And howcome Corabb's always lucky? like the others, won't his luck turn sour at some point?

Corabb isn't just an object like Oponns sword and coin was, Corabb could, how unlikely it seems, be a player like the other positions in the deck... if the unalligned use those kind of things. Like Kruppe and K'rull or AnasToc and... Obelisk?
Another ascendant doesn't just grab and use a player, they could probably push and direct Corabb but Corabb seems too stupid for that

Now Corabb's in Lether, maybe he's going to become some sort of Errant replacement- Oponn might want him finished off and then have Corabb there as a sort of High Priest or representative. [/crazy theory]

Now there's a duel I'd like to see.

Reminds me of how sometimes you meet somebody in the street, sidestep and see the other stepped to the same side.

I don't think Oponn would mind the Errant being disposed of.

Which raises the interesting question of how Oponn will take the Errant's return to activity... especially given his challenge to the Deck of Dragons.
And yeah... Corabb is probably Oponn's principal agent in Lether right now... so that duel will be fun

Because Paran and Crokus both had objects embued with the power of Oponn, Corabb is just unnaturally lucky because The Lady has a thing for him, an ascendant really wouldn't be able to use that in the same way as an item.
